NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Jamarii Thomas' 20 points helped Norfolk State defeat Hampton 75-68 on Monday night.

Thomas was 3-of-9 shooting, including 2 for 6 from 3-point range, and went 12 for 16 from the line for the Spartans (3-0). Jaylani Darden scored 16 points while going 4 of 10 from the floor, including 1 for 6 from 3-point range, and 7 for 7 from the line, and added nine rebounds. Allen Betrand was 3- of-9 shooting (2 for 6 from 3-point range) to finish with 10 points, while adding eight rebounds.

The Pirates (1-2) were led in scoring by Kyrese Mullen, who finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Hampton also got 16 points from Ford Cooper. Tedrick Wilcox Jr. also had 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Both teams play on Friday. Norfolk State squares off against Fordham and Hampton plays Kent State.
