The Villanova Wildcats are looking to break out of their funk when they host the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday in the 2022 Big East-Big 12 Battle. The Wildcats (2-5) are trying to find their footing after the retirement of coach Jay Wright, who led them to two national titles and last year's Final Four. They are on a four-game losing streak, their most recent a 74-67 setback to Oregon at the Phil Knight Invitational last Sunday. Meanwhile, the Sooners (6-1) have won six in a row. They handed Ole Miss its first loss last Sunday, beating the Rebels 59-55 at the ESPN Events Invitational. OU will finally have a chance to avenge a 95-51 loss to the Wildcats in the 2016 Final Four as Villanova went on to its second championship. The only other meeting between the teams came earlier that season, a 78-55 Sooners victory.

Tip-off at the Wells Fargo Center is set for 12:30 p.m. ET. Caesars Sportsbook lists the Wildcats as 3-point favorites in the latest Oklahoma vs. Villanova odds, and the over/under for total points scored is 125.5. Why Villanova can cover

Villanova was 11-4 straight-up and 9-6 against the spread in non-conference games last season. It isn't having problems scoring, averaging 70.4 points per game, almost five more than the Sooners. Coach Kyle Neptune is trying to find the right mix, but he has quality ingredients. The Wildcats have struggled with expectations, but they have a strong core and promising young players. Forwards Eric Dixon and Brandon Slater and guard Caleb Daniels are a strong scoring trio, and guard Mark Armstrong was a top recruit who is being worked in gradually.

Dixon averages 17.6 points and 6.4 rebounds and is hitting 36 percent from 3-point range. Daniels scores 17.4 points, adds 5.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists and makes 37 percent of his 3-pointers. Slater scores 11.7 points and grabs 6.0 rebounds. The Wildcats have had their problems on defense, but Oklahoma has scored more than 70 just twice and comes in off a 59-point effort last weekend. Armstrong is averaging 4.3 points while playing 15 minutes per game as he progresses. Guard Chris Arcidiacono had nine points and six assists against the Ducks.

Why Oklahoma can cover

Oklahoma has covered the spread in four of its past five, winning by an average of 10.5 points during their win streak. Guard Grant Sherfield has been leading the way. He is averaging 15.6 points and five assists while shooting 45.3 percent from 3-point range. The senior spent the past two seasons at Nevada, averaging almost 19 points and more than six assists. Forward Tanner Groves averages almost 11 points and more than seven rebounds and blocks 1.4 shots per game. He averaged more than 17 points for Eastern Washington in 2020-21 before transferring.

Jacob Groves, who came from EWU along with brother Tanner, and fellow forward Jalen Hill both average 8.6 points. Coach Porter Moser took over for Lon Kruger before last season, coming off a successful stint at Loyola-Chicago that included a 2018 Final Four run and a 2021 Sweet Sixteen appearance. The Sooners are 22-20 against the spread since he took over, 15-9 ATS after a victory. They went 19-16 in his first season, finishing seventh in the Big 12 at 7-11. The Sooners allow 56.9 points per game (T-15 in Division I) while Villanova allows 71 (T-232).
