Hurricane Ian updates: College football schedule tracker with Florida, UCF, SMU moving games in Week 5

The Southeastern portion of the United States is already dealing with the effects of Hurricane Ian as the first major tropical storm of 2022 arrives. The storm has inflicted heavy damage in parts of Florida and will continue making its way up through Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina by the weekend.

While it may not be swirling during some college football games on Saturday, it could certainly leave plenty of damage in its wake. Beyond that, emergency personnel in each state will be on high alert making services needed for game days -- such as security -- a lower priority for states when the same resources can be used to project the population.

As such, college football teams have already begun moving games. Some are changing locations. Others are moving days and being played either earlier or later in the week. Given the constantly changing situation caused by Hurricane Ian, CBS Sports will be updating all of the schedule changes and game updates constantly throughout the week. Keep it locked here for game information, schedule updates and much more through the weekend as Week 5 of the 2022 college football season remains in flux.

UCF vs. SMU pushed to Oct. 5

After initially rescheduling their Week 5 game from Saturday to Sunday due to the impact of Hurricane Ian, UCF and SMU will now play on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The moves makes sense given both programs are scheduled to have a bye in Week 6. It's the conference opener for both squads and a game that could have a pretty significant impact on who reaches the AAC title game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

South Carolina vs. South Carolina State moved

Originally scheduled for Saturday at noon ET, the game will now be played Thursday at 7 p.m. Television coverage has not been announced at this time. Fans with tickets for Saturday's matchup will be able to use them for Thursday night's game.

"Due to the potential impact of the hurricane on Columbia and the surrounding area, it is in the best interest of safety to play the game on Thursday rather than Saturday afternoon," South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner said. "I appreciate the cooperation of South Carolina State head coach Buddy Pough, the South Carolina State administration and the Southeastern Conference officials who worked closely to make the appropriate operational adjustments in order to accommodate this change in the schedule."

Tanner added: "Based on the current forecast and expected weather conditions as well as information from our campus, state and local law enforcement agencies, at this time, the University is confident in our ability to host the game on Thursday at Williams-Brice Stadium. We will be able to staff traffic, law enforcement, security and other game day operations. The safety of everyone affected by the storm and the minimization of the impact on emergency personnel were the most important factors considered in making the decision,"
