The Reds recalled Thompson from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old was optioned to Louisville in mid-March but ended up earning a place on the Opening Day roster after he posted an .828 OPS in 15 games during spring training. Thompson should serve as a reserve outfielder with TJ Friedl (wrist) set to miss the first month of the season.
