Stanton went 3-for-3 with three home runs and eight RBI in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates. After slimming down over the winter, Stanton got off to a rather slow start to spring training, but he flipped the narrative with one huge offensive performance. He hit a grand slam among his three homers, and with three swings of the bat, he improved his Grapefruit League line from .250/.314/.406 to .314/.359/.714. It's nice to see his trademark power is still there, but durability remains a major concern given Stanton has fallen short of 400 plate appearances each of the past two seasons.... See More ... Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Slimmed down during offseason
Stanton entered spring training noticeably slimmer after adding more movement and running to his offseason workouts, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Stanton indicated that he isn't certain how much weight he lost, but pictures from camp show that he is slimmer than in past campaigns. Manager Aaron Boone suggested that both the player and the team feel the lost weight can help Stanton "with some of the things that he's dealt with from an injury standpoint," per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Stanton has missed 113 games combined over the past two campaigns, so it would be a significant boon to his fantasy value if he could avoid the injured list this season.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Resting again for finale
Stanton is not in Sunday's lineup against the Royals. He will likely end up not getting an at-bat during the final series of the season, as New York is giving most of the at-bats to the less proven position players on the roster. Stanton did not have a multi-hit game in September and hit .136 with four home runs, seven runs and nine RBI in 68 at-bats during the month.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Sits again Saturday
Stanton remains on the bench for Saturday's game against the Royals, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. With the Yankees eliminated from the playoffs, the team is prioritizing giving at-bats to younger players, sitting the 33-year-old Stanton twice in a row. Even if the Yankees did have something to play for, they might not want to give everyday at-bats to a player who's hit .191/.275/.420 in 101 games this season. His 89 wRC+ sets a career low by a wide margin over his 116 wRC+ from last season and doesn't bode well for him heading into his age-34 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Takes seat Friday
Stanton is absent from the lineup Friday at Kansas City. Aaron Judge will fill the DH role as Everson Pereira, Estevan Florial and Oswaldo Cabrera start across the outfield. Stanton is sitting on a four-game hitting streak, but he has posted an overall .191 batting average and .275 on-base percentage through 415 plate appearances this season with New York.... Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Out of lineup again
Stanton is out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Diamondbacks. Stanton will take seat for the second straight game and the third time in four contests while he battles through a slump at the dish. With Stanton out of the lineup, Aaron Judge will serve as the Yankees' designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Held out Sunday
Stanton isn't in the Yankees' lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks. Stanton has been in a prolonged slump at the plate since the start of September, though he was able to record a hit in Friday's series opener. Aaron Judge will operate as New York's designated hitter Sunday, with Oswaldo Cabrera starting in right field.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Belts 24th homer
Stanton went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's victory over Pittsburgh. Stanton entered Saturday's tilt hitless in six of his last seven appearances, a span in which he was 1-for-23 (.043) and struck out 33.3 percent of the time. While Stanton's impressive power and high strikeout rate make him a very boom-or-bust fantasy option, he currently owns career worsts in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging over 94 games.... Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Sitting out afternoon game
Stanton is absent from the lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader versus the Red Sox. Stanton will surely be back out there for the nightcap, but he'll take a seat for the afternoon tilt. Aaron Judge is getting a start in the designated hitter spot and Oswaldo Cabrera will roam right field for the Bronx Bombers.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Idle for nightcap
Stanton isn't in the Yankees' lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with Boston. Stanton went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts during Game 1, and he'll get a breather to conclude Tuesday's activities. Aaron Judge will serve as New York's designated hitter, and Oswaldo Cabrera will start in right field while Stanton sits.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Launches clutch homer
Stanton went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and two walks in Sunday's 4-3 extra-innings win against the Brewers. The Yankees didn't get a hit through 10 innings but managed to keep the game tied on the strength of another outstanding Gerrit Cole start. After both teams plated a run in the 11th, Milwaukee scored twice in the top of the 12th. Stanton responded as the leadoff batter in the bottom of the frame, launching a 419-foot, two-run shot to center field to tie the score, and New York emerged with the victory in the 13th. Stanton's long ball was his 23rd of the campaign and was his only hit over his past four contests, a stretch during which he's gone 1-for-13.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Sits down Friday
Stanton isn't in the Yankees' lineup Friday against the Brewers. After going just 1-for-10 with a homer in the Yankees' last series against the Tigers, Stanton will sit down for the first of three games with Milwaukee. Aaron Judge will fill in as New York's DH, allowing Jake Bauers to start in right field.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Slugs 400th career homer
Stanton went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 5-1 victory versus Detroit on Tuesday. Stanton mashed a 451-foot moonshot in the sixth inning for the 400th long ball of his big-league career. Per Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger, only three players in MLB history -- Mark McGwire, Babe Ruth and Alex Rodriguez -- have reached the 400-homer mark faster than Stanton. The current Yankees slugger accomplished the feat on the heels of a recent power surge during which he has gone deep three times over his past six contests.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Belts 21st long ball
Stanton went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional run and a walk against the Astros in Friday's 6-2 victory. Stanton hit one of four Yankees homers against Justin Verlander, smashing a 433-foot two-run shot in the third inning. The long ball was his second in three contests and his 21st of the year over 84 games. Stanton's 14.7 AB/HR on the campaign is in line with his career mark, but his .728 OPS and all three marks in his .205/.283/.445 slash line will be his lowest as a major leaguer if he isn't able to pick up the pace over the closing weeks of the campaign.... Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Goes deep in victory
Stanton went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run and an additional RBI against the Tigers in Wednesday's 6-2 win. Stanton kicked off the scoring in the contest with a first-inning RBI single and added a 425-foot solo blast in the fourth. The long ball was his sixth in August, though three of them came in a three-game stretch near the start of the month. Overall, Stanton has swatted 20 home runs on the campaign, the 12th time in 14 career seasons he has reached that mark.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Heads to bench Sunday
Stanton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. Stanton will get some routine maintenance after he started each of the last five games in either right field or at designated hitter while going 5-for-20 with one home run, two doubles, two walks and four RBI. Aaron Judge will get a turn as the Yankees' DH on Sunday while Oswaldo Cabrera mans right field.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Homers, collects four hits
Stanton went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Thursday's loss to Washington. Stanton recorded hits in each of his first two trips to the plate but was left stranded both times as the Yankees grabbed an early lead. He then launched a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the eighth and drove home Oswald Peraza with a single in the ninth to make it a one-run game, though New York would still come up short. It marked the 33-year-old outfielder's first four-hit performance of the season while it was his first game with an RBI since Aug. 13. He's now batting .222 in August with five home runs, 12 RBI and eight runs scored.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Getting Sunday off
Stanton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. Aaron Judge will get a day out of the outfield and serve as the Yankees' designated hitter while Stanton heads to the bench after starting in every game dating back to Aug. 2. During that 16-game stretch, Stanton slashed .207/.313/.448 with four home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs while striking out at a 32.8 percent clip.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Productive in loss
Stanton went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a loss to the White Sox on Wednesday. Stanton produced both Yankees runs in the contest, driving in Aaron Judge with an RBI groundout in the fourth inning and belting a solo shot in the seventh. The long ball was the slugger's fourth through nine games in August and pushed his season total to 18. Despite the recent power surge, Stanton remains on pace for career-low marks in batting average (.204) and OBP (.278).... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Homers in third straight game
Stanton went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Friday in a loss to Houston. Stanton plated the final run in a losing effort for New York with his 435-foot blast to left field in the eighth inning. The slugger has gone deep in each of his last three games, going 4-for-11 and driving in seven runs over that stretch. Stanton's power surge extends back to July 8 -- he's belted 10 homers in 21 games since that date, though he's hitting a modest .218 during that stretch.... See More ... See Less
