Flores went 1-for-1 with a double and two RBI in a 5-0 win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday. Flores entered in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and immediately smacked a two-run double, which accounted for only his third extra-base hit of the campaign. While he has been on the short side of the platoon with LaMonte Wade at first base, the Giants have found a way to get Flores' bat in the lineup situationally on a regular basis. The 32-year-old has yet to tally a home run in 2024, but given that his slugging percentage (.311) is woefully below his .439 career mark, his power could arrive in short order.... See More ... Giants' Wilmer Flores: Starting after all
Flores was added to the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. It appeared that Flores would be held out of Monday's contest after taking a tumble Sunday afternoon, but he worked out before the game and ultimately got the green light. He'll man first base and bat fifth.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Not in lineup Monday
Flores (shoulder) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Flores injured his shoulder Sunday after tumbling into the dugout trying to catch a foul ball in the first inning. Tyler Fitzgerald will draw the start at first base and bat ninth in Monday's game against Dodgers left-hander James Paxton.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Dealing with shoulder injury
Flores exited Sunday's matchup with the Padres in the top of the second inning with a right shoulder contusion, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Flores was forced to leave Sunday's series finale with San Diego without even getting an at-bat after he went head over heels into the dugout trying to catch a foul ball in the bottom of the first inning. Luis Matos replaced him in the lineup. Flores will likely undergo additional testing, and more information on his status may be provided following Sunday's contest.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Returning to action Friday
Flores (knee) is starting at first base and batting third in Friday's split-squad game against the Cubs. The 32-year-old was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to knee soreness, but he'll rejoin the starting nine two days later since it was a minor issue. Flores clubbed 23 homers in 126 games last season and should be a regular lineup piece again in 2024, but he'll likely need to move around the infield in order to see consistent playing time.... Giants' Wilmer Flores: Scratched with sore knee
Flores was scratched from the Giants' Cactus League lineup Wednesday due to knee soreness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. When asked about the injury, Flores said, "it's nothing," so it seems safe to say he should be back in there in a day or two. LaMonte Wade will slide in at first base in Flores' absence.... Giants' Wilmer Flores: No defined role at start of spring
Flores is not expected to begin 2024 with a set position, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. It's a familiar refrain for Flores, who was a utility player at times in 2023 and still slashed .284/.355/.509 with a career-high 23 home runs and 60 RBI over 126 games. He'll likely have an easier time finding a spot against left-handed pitchers, but manager Bob Melvin notes his splits are acceptable against right-handers. The addition of Jorge Soler likely takes designated hitter away from the places Flores will see time, but he can fill in at a variety of infield positions.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Provides offense in loss
Flores went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a walk in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Dodgers. Flores was the only Giant to get a hit in the game, knocking an RBI single in the first inning and a solo home run in the third, both off Lance Lynn. Prior to Friday, Flores had gone just 2-for-18 over his last six games. The infielder has been one of the Giants' few steady hitters with a .284/.355/.510 slash line, 23 homers, 59 RBI, 51 runs scored and 22 doubles over 125 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Returns to lineup
Flores (knee) is starting at third base and batting third Wednesday against San Diego, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Flores missed two straight starts due to soreness in his right knee, but he was able to pinch hit during Tuesday's contest and will now return to the lineup Wednesday. The 32-year-old has been in a bit of a skid at the plate recently, going just 2-for-13 across his last six games.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Remains out with sore knee
Flores (knee) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Padres. Flores made an early exit from Sunday's series finale against the Dodgers with right knee discomfort and needs at least one more day of rest and treatment. J.D. Davis is playing third base Tuesday and batting third. LaMonte Wade will cover first base and hit leadoff.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Not starting Monday
Flores (knee) isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against San Diego, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Flores was lifted from Sunday's series finale against the Dodgers due to discomfort in his right knee, and he'll be held out of the lineup Monday. The Giants have not revealed whether the utility man will be available off the bench.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Exits with knee discomfort
Flores (knee) exited Sunday's game versus the Dodgers with right knee discomfort, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Flores went 2-for-2 in the contest before he was replaced by J.D. Davis. It doesn't appear to be a long-term concern, but with the Giants fading fast in the wild-card race, Flores may get some extra time off over the last week of the season if he's not feeling 100 percent.... Giants' Wilmer Flores: Will not start Monday
Flores is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians. Flores has recorded five extra-base hits and a .884 OPS since the start of September, but he will get a breather after starting nine straight games for the Giants.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Strong showing in win
Flores went 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in Friday's 9-8 win over the Rockies. Flores hasn't hit safely in consecutive contests in September, but he's gone 7-for-26 (.269) with three homers this month. The infielder got the Giants on the comeback trail with a two-run blast in the sixth inning and forced in the go-ahead run on a walk in the eighth. Flores' career year has him up to 22 long balls, 54 RBI, 49 runs scored and a .290/.356/.540 slash line through 108 games.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Homers in Tuesday's loss
Flores went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 11-8 loss to the Cubs. Flores has drawn a walk in five straight games while adding a pair of solo homers in that span. He's hitting just .239 over his last 19 games, but that comes with a .535 slugging percentage, six homers and 12 RBI. For the season, the versatile infielder has a .288/.354/.535 slash line with 21 long balls, 51 RBI, 48 runs scored and 22 doubles, though he's yet to attempt a stolen base through 106 games.... Giants' Wilmer Flores: Hits 20-homer mark for first time
Flores went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 7-3 loss to the Padres. The homer was Flores' 20th of the year, setting a new career high for the 32-year-old infielder. It also opened the scoring, but the Padres quickly took control of the game in their half of the first inning. Flores has swatted five homers over his last 15 games while batting .246 (14-for-57) in that span. Overall, he's maintained a .291/.352/.533 slash line with 50 RBI, 46 runs scored and 20 doubles through 102 games as one of the steadiest bats in the San Francisco lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Matches career high in homers
Flores went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-3 loss to Atlanta. Flores has been consistent and powerful lately, batting .289 with four homers and nine RBI over his last 10 games. He's matched his career high with 19 homers this season, and the infielder is a good bet to best that mark with over a month left in the campaign. He's slashing .299/.359/.543 with 48 RBI, 44 runs scored and 19 doubles through 97 contests, making his achievements slightly more impressive since he hasn't always had a clear path to playing time this year. Flores has primarily settled in at designated hitter over recent weeks.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Goes yard Wednesday
Flores went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and a walk in Wednesday's 8-6 extra-inning win over the Phillies. Flores opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo shot and added an RBI single in the third. He's hit safely in seven of his last eight games, going 10-for-30 (.333) with three homers and seven RBI in that span. The infielder is up to 18 long balls, 46 RBI, 43 runs scored and a .304/.365/.545 slash line through 95 contests this season. He remains an option primarily at designated hitter and the corner infield spots.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Homers in win
Flores went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's victory over Atlanta. Flores put the Giants ahead 3-2 with a two-run homer off Max Fried in the third inning, his 17th long ball of the season and his ninth in 31 games since the All-Star break. The 32-year-old Flores is just two homers shy of matching his career high set last season. He's now slashing an impressive .301/.359/.541 with 43 RBI and 40 runs scored across 323 plate appearances on the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Two-run homer in return
Flores (ear) went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 7-0 win over the Rays. Flores was out Monday with an ear infection, but it turned out to be a short absence for the infielder. He'd cooled off a bit prior to sitting out a game, going 1-for-12 across his last four contests, though he's still been one of the Giants' better hitters in recent weeks. Flores is up to a .300/.356/.542 slash line with 16 homers, 41 RBI, 39 runs scored and 19 doubles through 88 games this season. If he continues to hold down a starting role, he could make a push for his first 20-homer season.... See More ... See Less
