  • Alex Colome: Cut loose by Pale Hose

The White Sox released Colome on Thursday. Colome picked up 41 saves during his first stint with the White Sox between the 2019 and 2020 seasons, but his second go around in Chicago was much less successful. After inking a minor-league deal with the White Sox in April, Colome earned a call-up to the big club in early May but was booted off the 40-man roster after giving up four runs (two earned) across three innings out of the bullpen. Colome remained in the organization after clearing waivers and had spent the last two and a half months at Triple-A Charlotte, with whom he posted a 3.24 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over 33 appearances on the season. The 34-year-old right-hander probably pitched well enough to land a minor-league deal somewhere else, but his advanced age and lack of swing-and-miss stuff likely means he won't pitch any high-leverage innings if he resurfaces in the majors at any point over the final two months of the season.

  • White Sox's Alex Colome: Outrighted to Triple-A

The White Sox outrighted Colome to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. Colome passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment Wednesday. The veteran reliever had surrendered four runs -- two earned -- on two hits and three walks through three innings of work with Chicago.

  • White Sox's Alex Colome: Gets DFA'd

The White Sox designated Colome for assignment Wednesday. Colome gave up two runs over three innings across four appearances after having his contract selected by the White Sox earlier this month. The right-hander will now hit waivers, and he could report back to Triple-A Charlotte if another team isn't willing to put in a claim for him.

  • White Sox's Alex Colome: Added to roster

The White Sox selected Colome's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday. Colome held a 2.25 ERA and 7:4 K:BB over eight innings with Charlotte to earn another shot in the majors. The 34-year-old reliever posted a 2.27 ERA over 83 appearances for the White Sox from 2019-20 but has struggled mightily at the big-league level since then.

  • White Sox's Alex Colome: Receives minor-league deal

Colome signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Friday. It's a return to where he had some of his best seasons, as Colome was the White Sox' primary closer from 2019-20. He's fallen on hard times since then and will need to show something in the minors first, but the hope is Colome will supplement the team's relief depth while Liam Hendriks (illness) is unavailable.

  • Alex Colome: Granted release

Colome was granted his release by the Nationals on Saturday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. For the second straight winter, Colome signed with a struggling team and looked to potentially have a path to saves. Last year, he saved just four games for the Rockies and finished with a 5.74 ERA, though this year things went even worse, as he failed to earn a roster spot and was subsequently let go. The 34-year-old has 159 career saves but might find it hard to add to that total this season.

  • Nationals' Alex Colome: Sent to minor-league camp

Colome was assigned to minor-league camp on Saturday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. Colome could theoretically have earned save chances in Washington this season with the team open to using Kyle Finnegan in more of a fireman role, but instead, the veteran won't even earn a roster spot. He didn't help his case this spring, posting a 5.59 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 7:7 K:BB in 9.2 innings.

  • Nationals' Alex Colome: Controls deserts him Thursday

Colome walked three batters and struck out one in a scoreless inning of relief during Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets. The high-leverage roles in the Nationals' bullpen remain undecided beyond Kyle Finnegan, but Colome didn't do himself any favors in his quest to secure one with this performance. The veteran right-hander is coming off a season in which he posted a 5.74 ERA through 47 innings with the Rockies, and he's been no better at sea level this spring, giving up two homers with a 5:5 K:BB through 6.2 innings over seven appearances. Given that he's only on an NRI deal in camp, there's no guarantee Colome even makes the Opening Day roster.

  • Nationals' Alex Colome: Might be saves option

Colome could see save chances if Kyle Finnegan gets shifted into a fireman role rather than being used as a traditional closer, Bobby Blanco of MASN reports. Finnegan still seems likely to see the majority of save chances for the Nationals this season, but there could be saves up for grabs if the right-hander gets the call earlier in games in tight situations. Colome would be just one of many candidates who could benefit, with Hunter Harvey, Sean Doolittle (elbow), Carl Edwards and Mason Thompson also in the mix depending on matchups and performance. Colome has 159 career saves and has the most ninth-inning experience of anyone in the Nats' bullpen, and while his numbers in 2022 with the Rockies weren't pretty, the 34-year-old right-hander did record 17 saves for the Twins in 2021, albeit with a 4.15 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and weak 20.0 percent strikeout rate.

  • Nationals' Alex Colome: Gets NRI deal from Nats

Colome signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Friday and received an invite to major-league spring training, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. The Nationals have had their eyes on Colome since 2019 when they attempted to trade for him ahead of the deadline. The right-hander has declined considerably since then, however, and holds a 4.82 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over the past two seasons. If the 34-year-old reliever can hold his own in spring training, he might crack a Nats bullpen with few proven arms, though he probably won't see much high-leverage usage.

  • Rockies' Alex Colome: Back from bereavement list

Colome returned from bereavement leave Saturday. Colome had been away from his teammates since Sunday. He owns a 5.20 ERA and 1.64 WHIP on the season and hasn't picked up a single save in the second half, so he's unlikely to return to a particularly high-leverage role. Noah Davis was optioned to clear space for his return.

  • Rockies' Alex Colome: Lands on bereavement list

Colome (personal) was placed on the bereavement list Sunday. Colome hasn't pitched since last Sunday when he surrendered three earned runs over one-third of an inning, and he'll now step away from the team for a few days for personal reasons. Gavin Hollowell will join the big-league roster in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Alex Colome: Comes off IL

The Rockies reinstated Colome (forearm) from the 15-day injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Mets. Colorado placed reliever Lucas Gilbreath (elbow) on the 15-day IL to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen for Colome, who had been sidelined since Aug. 13 while battling tennis elbow. Colome didn't require a rehab assignment prior to being activated and should settle into a middle-innings or setup role with the Rockies now that he's been deemed healthy.

  • Rockies' Alex Colome: Throwing again

Colome (forearm) will throw a bullpen session Sunday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Colome, who is recovering from tennis elbow, will throw between 10 and 15 pitches in his first mound activity since landing on the injured list. He'll continue to ramp up and can be activated as early as Aug. 28.

  • Rockies' Alex Colome: Placed on injured list

Colome was placed on the 15-day injured list with right lateral epicondylitis Saturday, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. Colome hasn't been very effective recently, allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks while failing to record a strikeout in 1.2 innings over his last three appearances. It's possible that his forearm injury contributed to his struggles, and he'll be forced to miss at least two weeks due to the injury. A timetable for his return isn't yet clear, but Justin Lawrence was called up to take his place in the bullpen.

  • Rockies' Alex Colome: Available Friday

Colome (hamstring) is available to pitch Friday against the Pirates, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Colome has been unavailable since exiting Tuesday's game against the Padres with hamstring cramping, but he'll be available out of the bullpen for Friday's series opener versus the Buccos. It's good timing for Colorado, as fellow setup man Carlos Estevez is unavailable this weekend after being placed on the paternity list.

  • Rockies' Alex Colome: Not available Wednesday

Colome has a slight strain in the top of his right hamstring and is unavailable Wednesday against the Padres, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Colome was removed from Tuesday's win over the Padres due to his hamstring issue and will be unavailable for at least one game. He should tentatively be considered day-to-day.

  • Rockies' Alex Colome: Cramps prompt exit

Colome was removed from Tuesday's win over the Padres with cramping in his hamstring, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Colome allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning before being lifted with the injury. It doesn't sound like a serious concern, and the veteran right-hander should be considered day-to-day.

  • Rockies' Alex Colome: Hangs on for fourth save

Colome allowed a run on two hits and struck out one in one inning to earn the save in Friday's 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks. Daniel Bard had pitched each of the last two days, so manager Bud Black gave Colome a closing opportunity. He was a bit shaky, as two of the first three batters he faced reached base before a Josh Rojas fielder's choice led to a run, but Colome retired Jordan Luplow on a lineout to end the game. With runs allowed in four of his last seven appearances, Colome has been a little unsteady lately. He has four saves, four holds and a blown save while posting a 2.81 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB through 32 innings this year.

  • Rockies' Alex Colome: Earns second win

Colome (2-0) did not allow a baserunner while striking out one in a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win Saturday against the Padres. Colome entered the game in the eighth inning with the score knotted at four. He needed only 10 pitches to retire the side, and he has now turned in 17 consecutive scoreless appearances. Colome has a 2.13 ERA and 1.22 WHIP on the season, and he appears to be next in line for saves should Daniel Bard suffer an injury.
