Singleton went 2-for-4 with a run scored Wednesday against the Cubs. He was in the lineup for the ninth time this season while filling in for Jose Abreu at first base. Singleton managed his second multi-hit performance of the campaign and is hitting .256 across 43 plate appearances. Even with Abreu's struggles this season, Singleton looks unlikely to pick up significant playing time.... See More ... See Less

Astros' Jon Singleton: Fills in for resting Abreu
Singleton will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Despite posting a lowly .500 OPS in spring training, Singleton was able to secure a spot on Houston's Opening Day roster as a bench bat. Singleton will pick up his second start of the season Wednesday, spelling a resting Jose Abreu at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Jon Singleton: Could land on Opening Day roster
Singleton is out of minor-league options and could have the first chance on the big-league roster as a result, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Singleton had a standout game in which he hit two home runs and drove in five on Aug. 11, but his 105-plate appearance sample in the majors last year was otherwise unproductive. He maintained just a .165/.267/.264 line, though his 0.57 BB/K and .194 BABIP suggest he may have deserved better results. Singleton's most direct competition for a spot on the roster is likely to be the recently acquired Trey Cabbage.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Jon Singleton: Scores twice
Singleton went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored Wednesday against the Marlins. Singleton has started every game since Aug. 10, when Jose Abreu (back) was placed on the injured list. He's struggled for the majority of that stretch, collecting only four hits in 25 at-bats. While Singleton has run into some bad luck -- he's struck out at only an 11.5 percent clip -- his playing time will almost certainly dry up as soon as Abreu can return, which is likely to occur Sunday.... Jon Singleton: Headed for free agency
Singleton elected free agency after clearing waivers Wednesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Singleton will seek out an opportunity in a new organization after he was recently moved off the Brewers' 40-man roster following a two-week stint with the big club. In his first MLB action since the 2015 campaign, the 31-year-old first baseman/designated hitter slashed .103/.188/.138 with 11 strikeouts in 32 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Jon Singleton: DFA'd by Brew Crew
The Brewers designated Singleton for assignment Saturday. Singleton is slashing .103/.188/.138 since being called up by the Brewers, and the return of Jesse Winker (neck) from the injured list will push him off the Brewers' active and 40-man rosters. The veteran first baseman has had a successful season in Triple-A, so it's definitely possible another team claims him off waivers.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Jon Singleton: On bench versus lefty
Singleton is not in the starting lineup Sunday versus Oakland. Singleton will head to the bench as the Brewers face off with southpaw JP Sears on Sunday. Singleton has gone 3-for-22 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored while drawing a walk and striking out six times since being promoted from Triple-A Nashville on June 3. Christian Yelich will slot in at designated hitter while Blake Perkins enters the lineup in left field and will bat eighth as Milwaukee looks to avoid the sweep.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Jon Singleton: Makes first appearance since 2015
Singleton went 1-for-4 with one run scored in Saturday's 10-8 win over Cincinnati. Singleton made his first MLB appearance since 2015, playing first base and batting sixth. Rowdy Tellez operated as the designated hitter Saturday, but he figures to man first on a regular basis, so Singleton will presumably be relegated to a backup role, limiting his overall fantasy value.... Brewers' Jon Singleton: Reassigned to minors camp
Singleton was reassigned Tuesday to the minor-league side of Brewers camp, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Singleton was released by the Brewers back in January before re-signing with the club on a minor-league pact a few weeks later. He hasn't appeared in a game at the major-league level since all the way back in 2015.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Jon Singleton: Back with Milwaukee
Singleton signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Friday and received an invitation to major-league spring training, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. After being cut by the Brewers roughly two weeks ago, Singleton will rejoin the club as an organizational depth piece. The 31-year-old first baseman recorded an .809 OPS with Triple-A Nashville last year after playing in Mexico in 2021.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Jon Singleton: Loses 40-man spot
The Brewers designated Singleton for assignment Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Brian Anderson, whose one-year deal with Milwaukee became official Monday. The 31-year-old Singleton was added to the Brewers' 40-man roster earlier in the offseason after he slashed .219/.375/.434 with 24 home runs in 134 games with Triple-A Nashville in 2022. The former top prospect will hit waivers, and he could elect free agency if he goes unclaimed.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Jon Singleton: Signs minors deal with Milwaukee
Singleton signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Thursday. Singleton appeared in 114 major-league games in 2014 and 2015, struggling to a .171/.290/.331 slash line. He's been out of affiliated baseball since 2017, though he did appear in 46 games for the Diablos Rojos del Mexico in the Mexican League in 2021, hitting .321/.503/.693 with 15 homers.... Jonathan Singleton: Let go Monday
Singleton was released by the Astros on Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Singleton was dealt a 100-game suspension in January after testing positive for an illegal drug. He'll look to catch on elsewhere after Houston elected to part ways Monday. Singleton slashed .205/.376/.397 with 18 home runs and 62 RBI for Double-A Corpus Christi in 2017.... See More ... Astros' Jonathan Singleton: Suspended 100 games
Singleton has received a 100-game suspension without pay after failing a third positive test for a drug of abuse, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. It's been a tough couple of years for the once-lauded prospect. After being ousted from the Astros' 40-man roster prior to the 2017 season, Singleton spent the entire year with Double-A Corpus Christi, where he hit .205/.376/.397 in 117 games with the Hooks. The 26-year-old has appeared in just 114 games for the Astros since inking an extension with the team in 2014. Singleton will be free to sign elsewhere, and hopefully get his career back on track, once his contract with Houston expires after the 2018 season.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Jonathan Singleton: Assigned to Double-A
Singleton was assigned to Double-A Corpus Christi to open the regular season, the Houston Chronicle's Jake Kaplan reports. Singleton has already been removed from the Astros' 40-man roster, but he will still make $2 million this season in the penultimate year of the extension he signed in 2014. With A.J. Reed set to be the everyday first baseman at Triple-A, Singleton will need to go down to Double-A, a level he has not played at since 2013, in order to get everyday at-bats. It's unclear how Singleton's career would have been different if he never signed that extension, but it has worked as something of a gift and a curse, as he will need to wait two years to get a fresh start in a different organization unless the Astros are willing to buy him out.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Jonathan Singleton: Headed back to minors
Singleton has been reassigned to minor league camp, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports. Singleton was 4-for-21 at the plate during Grapefruit League play, scoring three runs and driving in two during what will end up being a short spring. The next step for the 25-year-old, who was removed from the team's 40-man roster in April, remains to be seen. Singleton should still get some run at Triple-A Fresno, but after hitting just .202 and striking out at a 24.8 percent clip last year, he'll need to quickly turn things around in order to even keep his job there.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Jonathan Singleton: Off 40-man roster, what's next?
Singleton, who was removed from the Astros' 40-man roster during the offseason, may find playing time at Triple-A Fresno difficult to come by, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports. Singleton dropped off the map last season, hitting just .202 at Fresno and never reaching the majors. A former top prospect, the 25-year-old first baseman will be challenged by younger prospects A.J. Reed and Tyler White.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Jonathan Singleton: Outrighted to Triple-A Fresno
Singleton cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports. As expected, the former top prospect will remain an Astro farmhand after no teams were interested in picking up his bat that hasn't produced a major league batting average above .200. Singleton's power is intriguing, but he'll be nothing more than an organizational depth piece until he can make more contact.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Jonathan Singleton: Placed on outright waivers
Singleton was placed on outright waivers by the Astros on Saturday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports. Kaplan predicts that Singleton will clear waivers and be sent to Triple-A Fresno, an understandable thought given that Singleton is still owed $4.5 million. In 420 career plate appearances, the former top prospect has hit an anemic .171/.290/.331 with151 strikeouts, which simply does not belong in a major league lineup. Blocked at first base and designated hitter by a combination of Yulieski Gurriel, Brian McCann, AJ Reed, and Tyler White, it's unlikely Singleton sees significant time in the majors any time in the near future.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Jonathan Singleton: Homers twice Thursday for Triple-A Fresno
Singleton went 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI during Thursday's loss to Triple-A Salt Lake. Singleton, who had been hitting .143 prior to Thursday's game, raised his batting average 86 points with the four-hit performance. He's hitting .225 with three home runs and seven RBI through 11 games with Triple-A Fresno. The 24-year-old first baseman does not appear to be a threat to overtake Tyler White in Houston anytime soon, especially now that A.J. Reed has leapfrogged him on the organizational depth chart....
