Player Outlook
Caleb Thielbar is an impact reliever who will serve in the setup corps for the Twins again this season. Thielbar had an impressive 30% strikeout rate along with a career-low 5% walk rate. He also held left-handed batters to an amazing .341 OPS (six hits allowed and no walks in 47 plate appearances). His only blemish was missing nearly two months with an oblique injury. At age 37, he may not be a good bet to pitch in 50-plus games in a season. He also isn't used much in save chances since he's a lefty utilized for matchups often before the ninth inning. However, he could rack up some impressive hold totals in a setup role.

  • Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Goes on IL

The Twins placed Thielbar (hamstring) on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Thielbar is one of six Twins relievers that will begin the season on the injured list. He's eligible for activation April 9, but since he didn't pitch in any Grapefruit League games while recovering from the left hamstring strain, Thielbar may need more than the minimum 15 days to complete his recovery before being ready to join Minnesota.

  • Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Slated to open on IL

Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said Monday that Thielbar (hamstring) will begin the season on the injured list, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. The Twins could have Thielbar throw one more live BP session before turning him loose in a game setting for his Grapefruit League debut, but the reliever still looks on pace to be ready for Opening Day. Thielbar, who is recovering from a left hamstring strain, turned in a 3.23 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 36:6 K:BB while collecting 14 holds and three wins in 30.2 innings out of the Minnesota bullpen in 2023.
