Hader gave up a run on two hits and a walk in the ninth inning Friday, recording his second save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Nationals. He struck out two. It was another bumpy outing for the left-hander, but after CJ Abrams came around to score following a leadoff triple, Hader was able to strike out Joey Meneses and Nick Senzel with runners on first and second to end the threat. Hader's been tagged for runs in five of his 11 appearances to begin the season, and his control and command both seem to be lacking so far. He carries an 8.38 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB through 9.2 innings, but the strikeouts at least are a sign that he should turn things around.... See More ... See Less

Astros' Josh Hader: Crumbles in ninth
Hader yielded four runs on four hits and a walk in Monday's loss to Atlanta. He recorded one out via strikeout. Hader entered the game in a non-save situation with Atlanta leading 2-1. He put five straight runners on base and threw a wild pitch, resulting in four runs to be charged against him. The All-Star closer has not yet found any consistency in his first season with Houston; Hader has just one save with a 9.39 ERA through 7.2 frames.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Josh Hader: Secures first save
Hader allowed a run on one hit and a walk in one inning Sunday and earned a save over Texas. After walking Adolis Garcia, Hader moved him up to second base with a wild pitch and eventually saw him score on a Justin Foscue single. Despite the struggles, Hader finished off the 3-1 win and earned his first save as an Astro. He's coughed up four runs over his last three innings, bumping his ERA up to 7.20 through five appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Josh Hader: Blows first save chance in Houston
Hader (0-2) blew the save and took the loss Tuesday against the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on two hits in one inning. Heading into the ninth with a 1-0 lead, Hader had Toronto down to its final out with the bases empty. However, Justin Turner drew a two-out walk before Davis Schneider launched a two-run homer, saddling Hader with a blown save en route to his second loss this season. The 29-year-old left-hander has allowed three runs on four hits and two walks through his first four innings this season, but while it's been a rough start to his tenure in Houston, Hader figures to have a firm grasp on the Astros' closing job after racking up 33 saves with a 1.28 ERA over 56.1 innings with the Padres last year.... Astros' Josh Hader: Unavailable Monday
Astros manager Joe Espada said that Hader is unavailable for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Hader pitched in three of the four games against the Yankees in the Astros' opening series. He took the loss in the third contest after giving up one run on two hits while striking out two in one inning. With Bryan Abreu also unavailable Monday, the Astros will likely turn to Ryan Pressly to fill in as the closer if necessary.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Josh Hader: Takes loss against Yankees
Hader (0-1) took the loss against the Yankees on Sunday, yielding one run on two hits and no walks during one inning. He struck out two. Hader took the mound in the ninth during a 3-3 tie but was unable to get through the inning unscathed. He surrendered back-to-back singles to Gleyber Torres and Juan Soto, with Soto's knock plating Torres after Torres stole second. Sunday's outing was Hader's first blemish of 2024 after giving up no hits and fanning five in his first two appearances covering two innings.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Josh Hader: Officially named Houston closer
Astros manager Joe Espada said Wednesday that Hader will be the team's closer this season, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. There didn't seem to be much doubt after Hader signed a five-year, $95 million contract last month, but Espada made it official after speaking to both Hader and Ryan Pressly on Tuesday. Pressly could net the occasional save on days when Hader is unavailable, but clearly his fantasy outlook takes a major hit. Hader collected a 1.28 ERA and 85:30 K:BB over 56.1 innings while recording 33 saves for the Padres in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Josh Hader: Signs with Astros
Hader signed a five-year, $95 million contract with the Astros on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Coming off a phenomenal season in which Hader logged a 1.28 ERA and 1.10 WHIP through 56.1 innings while racking up 33 saves, the 29-year-old southpaw will join the Astros on the most lucrative deal for a reliever in MLB history, based on present-day value. This will be Hader's second stint with the Astros organization -- he spent roughly two years in Houston's farm system before being traded to the Brewers in 2015. He will almost certainly take over as the Astros' primary closer, moving Ryan Pressly into a setup role.... See More ... See Less -
Josh Hader: Pursued by Astros
The Astros are making a big effort to sign Hader, Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome of The Athletic are reporting. If the Astros were to sign Hader, it would create quite a ripple in the closer pool, as Hader is unlikely to share the save duties with Ryan Pressly. The Astros just got the news that Kendall Graveman is out for the season, so they need more premium depth in their bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Josh Hader: Earns 33rd save
Hader picked up the save in Friday's 3-2 victory over the White Sox. He allowed one run on one hit and one walk over one inning without recording a strikeout. It was far from a clean outing for Hader, who allowed a solo homer to Carlos Perez to lead off the inning, then gave up a walk and hit a batter prior to inducing Yoan Moncada to ground into a game-ending double play. Friday's appearance marks only the sixth time in 60 appearances that Hader has allowed an earned run this season, leading to a 1.30 ERA, 1.12 ERA and 84 strikeouts over 55.1 innings.... See More ... Padres' Josh Hader: Converts one-out save
Hader struck out the only batter he faced to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Giants. Seth Lugo ran out of gas in the ninth inning, exiting with 123 pitches. Hader entered with two on and two out and struck out Wilmer Flores to end the game. Hader has pitched 4.2 scoreless innings over his last six appearances while adding four saves and a win in that span. He's at 32 saves in 37 chances this season while posting an excellent 1.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 82:28 K:BB through 53.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Josh Hader: Nails down 31st save
Hader gave up a hit in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his 31st save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Rockies. The southpaw failed to strike out any batters at all over three appearances and 2.1 innings against Colorado in this series, but he still came away with two saves and a win. Hader still hit 97.6 mph with his final pitch Wednesday as he got Brendan Rodgers to fly out, so those with fantasy shares in the San Diego closer would seem to have little cause for alarm. On the season, Hader carries a 1.21 ERA and 79:28 K:BB through 52 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Josh Hader: Squanders no-hit bid, salvages win
Hader (1-3) earned his first win of the season in Tuesday's 2-0 victory over Colorado. He allowed two hits with no strikeouts over a scoreless inning. Hader inherited a combined no-hitter when entering the game after Blake Snell and Robert Suarez held the Rockies at bay for the first eight frames. While the no-hit bid was scratched after Hader gave up a leadoff single to Brendan Rodgers, the closer managed to keep the Rockies from scoring and eventually nabbed his first win of 2023. Over his last four appearances (3.1 innings), Hader has surrendered one run on seven hits with a 2:2 K:BB.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Josh Hader: Secures 30th save
Hader allowed two hits without giving up a run in one-third of an inning to earn the save in Monday's 11-9 win over the Rockies. The Padres' bullpen nearly blew an eight-run lead, but Hader was eventually able to end the Rockies' comeback hopes despite allowing an inherited runner to score. While far from a pretty effort, Hader was able to secure his 30th save of the season, which was his second in a three-day span after he saw light usage in early September. He's now at a 1.26 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 79:28 K:BB through 50 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Josh Hader: Records 29th save
Hader picked up the save in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Athletics, allowing one hit while striking out one over a scoreless inning. Hader entered the game in the bottom of the ninth with a three-run lead and proceeded to give up a leadoff single to Carlos Perez before retiring the next three batters in order. It marked the lefty's first save since Aug. 28 and only the second time in his last four appearances that he didn't allow a run. His 29 saves on the season currently have him tied with Raisel Iglesias for fifth in the National League.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Josh Hader: Blows save vs. Cardinals
Hader (0-3) blew the save and took the loss in Wednesday's 5-4 loss against the Cardinals. He allowed two runs on two hits while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning. After quickly logging the first two outs in the ninth, Hader gave up a double to Masyn Winn before Tommy Edman belted a two-run homer, handing Hader and the Padres a 5-4 loss. It's the first time Hader's blown a save or allowed an earned run since May 31, a span of 26 appearances (23.2 innings). He still sports a stellar 1.16 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP and 74:25 K:BB across 46.2 innings while going 28-for-33 in save chances.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Josh Hader: Notches save Monday
Hader allowed a hit in a scoreless frame while earning a save over the Cardinals on Monday. He struck out two batters. Hader picked up his first save since Aug. 16 with another strong performance. He's now gone 23.1 straight innings without allowing an earned run dating back to the start of June. He lowered his season ERA to 0.79 with a 73:24 K:BB through 45.2 frames.... See More ... Padres' Josh Hader: Perfect for save No. 26
Hader picked up the save in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Rockies. He struck out one over two-thirds of a clean inning. Hader was unbothered by the elevation of Coors Field, stepping in and retiring the only two batters he faced for his 26th save of 2023. The southpaw hasn't allowed an earned run since May 31 (20 appearances), a span in which he's converted all 13 save opportunities and owns a 30:12 K:BB.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Josh Hader: Escapes with save
Hader allowed a hit and two walks in a scoreless inning against Texas on Sunday. He struck out one and earned a save. Hader put three straight Rangers on base after recording two outs but managed to wiggle out of the jam. He needed 31 pitches to finish off the 5-3 win, tying his season high. Hader hasn't allowed an earned run since May 31; he's converted 12 of 13 save chances while registering a 29:12 K:BB through 17.2 innings during that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Josh Hader: Secures 24th save
Hader picked up the save Friday against the Tigers, tossing a perfect ninth inning. He struck out one and didn't issue a walk. Hader hasn't given up an earned run since May 31. During that stretch, he's gone 11-for-12 in save chances while striking out 23 over 16 appearances (14.2 innings). The left-hander had a few hiccups last year, but he has returned to form in 2023 and is still one of the elite bullpen arms in MLB.... See More ... See Less
