Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Lands on injured list
The Phillies placed Ortiz on the 15-day injured list due to a left ankle sprain Sunday. Nick Nelson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill Ortiz's spot in the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Exits with sprained ankle
Ortiz was removed from Saturday's game against Atlanta with a left ankle sprain, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Ortiz made made a leaping attempt to catch a ball during the fifth inning and appeared to land awkwardly on his left foot. He came back out to pitch in the sixth but was quickly pulled after giving up two consecutive singles. Further imaging will help determine the severity of Ortiz's injury, but for now he should be considered day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Sent to FCL
The Phillies optioned Ortiz to the Florida Complex League on Saturday. Ortiz came up for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets, and he will now be cast off the active roster after throwing a scoreless inning and striking out two batters in Game 1. Michael Plassmeyer was selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Up from Triple-A
The Phillies recalled Ortiz from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday. As Dylan Covey (back) lands on the injured list for the final days of the regular season, Ortiz will come up from the minors to round out Philadelphia's bullpen. The 28-year-old righty holds a 3.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP through 18 frames in the majors this season and figures to serve in middle relief while with the Phillies.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Headed back to Triple-A
The Phillies optioned Ortiz to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. Ortiz will cede his spot in the Phillies bullpen to lefty Jose Alvarado (elbow), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list. Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Recalled from Triple-A
Ortiz was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley prior to Sunday's game against the Twins. The 27-year-old reliever has a 3.94 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 13 strikeouts in 16 innings in the big leagues this season. He has operated as a high-leverage reliever at Triple-A, but Ortiz should be limited to lower-leverage opportunities while up with the big club.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Serving as 27th man
Ortiz was added as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals. Ortiz will be available out of the Phillies' bullpen in both games. He has posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 12:5 K:BB through 14 innings of work this year at the MLB level.... See More ... See Less -

The Phillies recalled Ortiz from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. Ortiz holds a 5.40 ERA in Triple-A this season, but that mark improves to 2.70 in the majors. The right-handed Ortiz will provide a multi-inning option for the Philadelphia relief corps while he's on the roster.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Gets demoted Monday
The Phillies optioned Ortiz to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. A waiver pickup from the Giants earlier in the offseason, Ortiz wasn't able to earn a spot in the Phillies' Opening Day bullpen despite logging a 2.53 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 10.2 innings in Grapefruit League play. Since he possesses a spot on the 40-man roster and has three prior years of MLB experience, Ortiz will likely get the opportunity to join the big-league bullpen at some point in 2023 if he continues to fare well at Lehigh Valley.... Giants' Luis Ortiz: Contract selected from Triple-A
Ortiz's contract was selected from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Ortiz spent the start of the 2022 campaign at Sacramento and posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 63.2 innings over 32 appearances (four starts). He hasn't pitched in the majors since 2019 but should serve as a multi-inning option out of the Giants' bullpen following Wednesday's promotion.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Luis A. Ortiz: On injured list in Low-A
Oritz (undisclosed) was assigned to Low-A Delmarva on Friday and placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. It's unclear what kind of injury the 19-year-old southpaw is dealing with. Ortiz allowed nine runs with a 17:6 K:BB in 14.2 innings in rookie ball last season.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Ortiz: Lands with Giants
The Giants signed Ortiz to a minor-league contract Tuesday. Ortiz spent the 2021 season in the Rangers organization, pitching exclusively at Triple-A Round Rock and submitting a 4.60 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 44:17 K:BB in 43 innings. The 26-year-old right-hander previously made three appearances at the MLB level with the Orioles between 2018 and 2019, giving up eight earned runs on 11 hits and eight walks in 5.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Luis Ortiz: Moves past ankle injury
Ortiz (ankle) is listed as an available reliever for Monday's Cactus League game against the Rockies. Ortiz isn't expected to play unless the Rangers' other five scheduled pitchers exhaust their respective pitch counts, but the right-hander's inclusion on the lineup card is an indication that he's feeling healthy again after missing time early in camp with an ankle injury. He made his spring debut Friday against the Dodgers, retiring two of the four hitters he faced. The 25-year-old is likely to begin the season at Triple-A Round Rock.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Luis Ortiz: Lands in Texas
Ortiz signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Wednesday. The deal doesn't include an invitation to big-league spring training, so Ortiz is likely being viewed as a candidate for the rotation at Triple-A Round Rock or Double-A Frisco. The 2014 first-round pick most recently played in 2019, spending most of that season at Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles organization and posting a 6.38 ERA over 66.1 innings.... See More ... Ortiz cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday. Ortiz made only one start in the majors in 2019, allowing four earned runs over 3.1 innings. He wasn't much more effective with Triple-A Norfolk, amassing a 6.38 ERA with a 47:31 K:BB over 66.1 innings pitched, and he now finds himself off the 40-man roster heading into 2020.... See More ... Orioles' Luis Ortiz: Shuttled back to minors
Ortiz (0-1) took the loss after surrendering four runs on four hits and five walks while striking out three over 3.1 innings Friday against the Red Sox. He was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk following the game, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. Ortiz gave up two runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth prior to exiting with a 4-1 deficit. He struggled to consistently find the strike zone in this one, firing just 44 of 80 pitches for strikes. He'll aim to find better success in the minor leagues in his next outing.... See More ...
