Petty has a 1.53 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over 35.1 innings so far at High-A Dayton, with 39 strikeouts over that stretch. He hasn't exceeded four innings in a start yet this season, by design, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. The Reds acquired Petty in the Sonny Gray trade before the start of the 2022 season. His name might come up in the ensuing weeks before the MLB trade deadline if they decide to trade for pitching at the big league level.... See More ... See Less

Reds' Chase Petty: Healthy at High-A
Petty (elbow) was activated from the 7-day injured list Saturday and gave up one earned run while striking out three over four innings in his return to action Wednesday for High-A Dayton. He missed a little over a month to start the season, but given that it was an elbow injury, it's excellent news that he still has a chance to have a pretty normal age-20 season. Petty was known more for his velocity entering the 2021 draft, but he's now more of a strike thrower who sits in the low 90s with his sinker and misses bats with his slider.... See More ... Reds' Chase Petty: Climbs to High-A
The Reds promoted Petty from Single-A Daytona to High-A Dayton on Wednesday. Petty, who was the main piece the Reds received in the March trade that sent Sonny Gray to Minnesota, will advance to Dayton after he submitted a 3.18 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 60:23 K:BB across 65 innings with Daytona.... Reds' Chase Petty: Shipped to Cincinnati
The Reds acquired Petty from the Twins on Sunday in exchange for right-handed starting pitcher Sonny Gray and minor-league right-hander Francisco Peguero. The transaction is a signal that the Reds are gearing up for a rebuild, as Gray was Cincinnati's No. 2 starter in 2021, while Petty was the No. 26 overall pick in last summer's First-Year Player Draft and is multiple years away from the majors. The 18-year-old right-hander is blessed with a big fastball that can touch 100 miles per hour, but improving his command and developing his secondary offerings will be essential if he's to emerge as a frontline starter in the big leagues down the road. He'll likely open the 2022 campaign at the rookie-ball level before potentially moving up to Low-A Daytona, though he's expected to be on some sort of innings cap for this season, given his relative youth.... Red Reporter@redreporter8H agoIf the Cardinals find a way to take down the Brewers later this evening, the Reds will go to bed tonight in a tie for last place in the NL Central. Spent a little too much time in that spot the last few decades.

Red Reporter@redreporter8H agoI can say with some certainty that the Reds will win at least one more game this season before it's all said and done. Some certainty.

Mark Sheldon@m_sheldon8H agoThe Reds losing streak is at 8 games after a 5-4 defeat to Arizona. First time they lost an entire homestand of at least six games since June 17-22, 2022. Longest losing streak for Cincinnati since losing 9 in a row April 26-May 5, 2022.

Mark Sheldon@m_sheldon8H agoIt's a 4-4 game in the 7th as the Reds put together something with three-straight 2-out hits. De La Cruz RBI single and Steer two-run single evens thing up.

Mark Sheldon@m_sheldon10H agoAfter not allowing a run over his last 14 2/3 innings, Greene gave up a 2-out solo homer to Pederson in the top of the 1st inning. Reds down, 1-0. His velocity seems a bit lower than usual.

Mark Sheldon@m_sheldon1D agoReds had the tying run at third and go-ahead run at second in the 9th but India flied out to end a 4-3 loss to Arizona. Losing streak at 7 games, longest since June 15-23, 2022.
