Ramon Urias popped 16 home runs and won a Gold Glove as a semi-regular for the Orioles in 2022. He was used in a similar role for the American League East champs in 2023, but Urias' home run output was quartered and his defensive metrics also took a major hit. Where that leaves the 29-year-old heading into 2024 is uncertain, as Urias has seemingly already been passed up by some younger, more talented infielders and the organization also has more on the precipice. At his best, Urias has been an above-average hitter with an above-average glove. His fantasy appeal looks pretty limited, though, as he doesn't stand out anywhere and is facing uncertainty about his role.

  • Orioles' Ramon Urias: Making decent impression

Urias has gone 3-for-11 over his first five Grapefruit League games. Urias projects as a potential utility player for the Orioles this season. It's not necessarily anything he's done wrong -- the youth movement is on in Baltimore, leaving him without a defined place in the lineup. Urias could play all around the infield, with second base being the most likely path to regular at-bats, depending on how Jordan Westburg and Jackson Holliday progress. Kolten Wong is also in camp on a minor-league deal, but he'll likely be more organizational depth that a true threat to Urias' place on the roster.

Urias slashed .264/.328/.375 with 42 RBI across 396 plate appearances last season. Despite his above-average glove and solid batting average, Urias will likely struggle to find regular playing time behind the myriad of talented young prospects the Orioles have on their roster.

Urias (heel) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, though he believes he'll be available off the bench, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Urias admitted he's still dealing with some soreness in his left heel, so the Orioles seem to be keeping him out of the starting nine as a precaution after he was removed from Tuesday's 7-6 loss. • Orioles' Ramon Urias: Hits bench Monday

Urias is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays. Urias will cede his spot in the lineup to Jorge Mateo, who draws the starting nod at shortstop while Gunnar Henderson shifts over to third base. Though he doesn't bring an exciting fantasy skill set to the table, Urias' contact skills and ability to play all over the infield has been enough for him to earn a fairly stable role. He started in seven of the Orioles' previous eight games.
