Peralta was in line for his third win of the year before the Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. The 27-year-old has been terrific to begin the 2024 campaign, registering a 1.90 ERA with a 33:4 K:BB over 23.2 frames. He's forced double-digit whiffs in each of his four starts this season, including 13 on Friday. Peralta is lined up to start in Pittsburgh next week.

Peralta was dominant Friday, holding Baltimore to a lone run on a Colton Cowser homer in the fourth inning en route to an easy win in an 11-1 Brewers victory. The 27-year-old Peralta lowered his ERA to 2.55 with a 0.68 WHIP through his first three starts (17.2 innings). He's tied for second in the majors with 26 strikeouts in the early going while issuing just a pair of walks. Peralta's currently lined up to face the Padres at home in his next outing.

• Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Brewers-Reds postponed Thursday

  Peralta and the Brewers won't face the Reds on Thursday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in CIncinnati. The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader Aug. 30. According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, the Brewers will push each of their starting pitchers back one day in the pitching schedule as a result of the postponement, so Peralta will take the hill for Friday's series opener in Baltimore.

  Peralta yielded three runs on four hits and a walk over 5.2 innings and did not factor in the decision Friday. He struck out seven during a win over Seattle. Peralta looked terrific through five shutout frames, allowing just three Mariners to reach base during that stretch. He was then tagged with three runs in the sixth inning and wasn't able to record a quality start. The 27-year-old forced seven whiffs with his slider and 13 total. Peralta has a 3.09 ERA with an impressive 15:2 K:BB through 11.2 frames. He's currently lined up to start in Cincinnati next week.

• Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Shines on Opening Day

  Peralta (1-0) earned the win Friday against the Mets, surrendering just one hit -- a solo home run -- while striking out eight batters and walking one through six innings. The 27-year-old righty was brilliant in his first career Opening Day start, and a solo shot by Starling Marte in the second inning ended up being the Mets' only hit of the game. After the next batter, DJ Stewart, reached base on a walk, Peralta responded by retiring 13 consecutive batters. He will have some big shoes to fill as the Brewers' ace this year with Corbin Burnes now in Baltimore and Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) out for the season, but Thursday's outing may have been a good sign of what's to come this year. Peralta's next start will likely come Wednesday against the Twins in Milwaukee.

The Marlins peppered Peralta for nine hits, equaling his season high last given up April 15 against San Diego. The results Sunday were highly unusual as the Brewers starting pitcher had produced a 2.42 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 99:16 K:BB over 70.2 innings in the second half before this outing. Perhaps the Marlins were able to take advantage of Peralta's average fastball velocity sitting at 93.5 mph, down a tick from its normal 94.5 mph. He'll look to bounce back in his final start of the season, currently scheduled to be at home against the Cubs.

However, the right-hander would go on to be charged with another two runs in the sixth before being relieved by Trevor Megill. Peralta recorded just four strikeouts in the contest, the fewest he's posted in a start since June 1, and he's now allowed a home run in three consecutive outings. Through two September starts he holds a 3.18 ERA to go along with a 14:1 K:BB.

Peralta is on a torrid four-game stretch at the moment. Since July 26, he is 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 39:5 K:BB in 25 innings while throwing four quality starts. He also recorded 64 whiffs over that span which is the most in all of baseball. When Peralta is at his best, he can be downright elite and has the potential to be a league winner down the stretch, but he'll have his work cut out for him when he faces the Rangers on the road his next time out.
