Player Outlook
Named after his father, who played six years in the majors and is now the bench coach of the Detroit Tigers, George Lombard Jr. plays with the ease and tempo we'd expect to see from a player who grew up around the game. He has average or better tools across the board, although he may not have a plus tool when it's all said and done. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound prep shortstop from Florida could develop 20-plus homer power and should still have enough speed to steal 15-plus bases by the time he reaches the majors. He slashed .311/.466/.356 with zero home runs, four steals, a 22.4 BB% and a 20.7 K% in 13 games across the Florida Complex League and Single-A, so the early returns on the hit tool are strong. Lombard has the upside to shoot up prospect lists in his first full year.
