The White Sox returned Shuster to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday. Shuster did not make an appearance during Wednesday's doubleheader against Kansas City, and he'll now head back to the minors after being promoted as the 27th man. The 25-year-old lefty owns a 1.42 ERA through 6.1 big-league innings this season but has run into trouble since being demoted to Charlotte.... See More ... See Less

White Sox's Jared Shuster: Back as 27th man for doubleheader
The White Sox recalled Shuster from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday. Shuster was just optioned Tuesday, but he's back a day later to serve as the 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader against the Royals. The left-hander is a good bet to eat some innings either in the first game or second game of the twin bill.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Jared Shuster: Optioned to Charlotte
The White Sox optioned Shuster to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday. Shuster will lose his spot on Chicago's big-league roster to make room for Jonathan Cannon, who was promoted from Triple-A in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old southpaw was solid during his brief stint in the majors, surrendering just one earned run across 6.1 innings through two appearances. If Shuster is able to continue finding success in the minors, he could return to the White Sox as a multi-inning relief option later this season.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Jared Shuster: Solid in relief in 2024 debut
Shuster struck out two across three scoreless innings of relief Monday in the White Sox's 4-0 loss to the Guardians. He struck out two. Shuster was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday and threw the most innings in a bullpen day for the White Sox. He didn't show overwhelming stuff -- he generated four swinging strikes on 45 total pitches -- but he managed to keep the ball on the ground to avoid any damage. Shuster may not immediately stick on the big-league roster as the team tries to cover innings when the fifth spot in the rotation comes up until Mike Clevinger is ready to make his season debut in May, but the White Sox have plenty of incentive to see if Shuster has the potential to stick in the big-league rotation at some point this summer.... White Sox's Jared Shuster: Recalled from Triple-A
Shuster was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox on Monday. Tanner Banks will serve as an opener Monday in Cleveland, but Shuster looks to be the prime candidate to follow him in bulk relief. Shuster could also be under consideration for a start until Mike Clevinger is ready. The lefty was knocked around for seven runs and four home runs over four innings in his lone start with Charlotte this season.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Jared Shuster: Struggles with slider placement
Shuster allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three across two innings in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Mariners. Shuster worked through the first inning with ease, striking out two batters without allowing a baserunner. Trouble came in the second frame, however, as he allowed six consecutive batters to reach base. After the outing, Shuster noted that he was happy with his increased velocity but also acknowledged that he struggled to place his slider. He's in the running for a role in the rotation to begin the 2024 season.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Jared Shuster: In running for rotation spot
White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Friday that he expects one or both of Shuster and Michael Soroka (forearm) to open 2024 in the rotation, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Both pitchers were acquired from Atlanta on Thursday as the White Sox look to stock up on some much-needed rotation depth. Getz did say that he's not done in seeking starting pitching additions this winter, but as it stands right now Shuster and Soroka would each seem to have a good shot at a prominent role. Shuster held an ugly 5.81 ERA and 30:26 K:BB across 52.2 innings for Atlanta in 2023, but he's just 25 and was a first-round pick in 2020.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Jared Shuster: Headed to Chicago
Shuster was traded from Atlanta to the White Sox on Thursday along with Michael Soroka (forearm), Braden Shewmake, Nicky Lopez and Riley Gowens in exchange for Aaron Bummer. Atlanta cleared out spots on its 40-man roster with the move, though the exchange could also benefit Shuster. He made his big-league debut in 2023 as a spot starter and struggled to a 5.81 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with a 30:26 K:BB across 52.2 innings. Despite a track record of success in the minors, Shuster likely would have been a longshot to break camp in the majors with Atlanta as a result of his struggles, but he should have a more substantial opportunity to make a big-league impact with his new club in 2024.... Braves' Jared Shuster: Demoted after short start
Shuster was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. Shuster was called up to start Saturday in Miami but will return to the minors after he surrendered five runs (four earned) across three innings. The rookie left-hander has a 5.64 ERA and 30:26 K:BB across 11 starts (52.2 innings) this season.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jared Shuster: Struggles in return to rotation
Shuster did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks over three innings against Miami. He struck out two. It was a disastrous beginning for Shuster as the rookie surrendered a home run to Luis Arraez to lead off the bottom of the first followed by a three-run homer to Yuli Gurriel just three batters later. The lefty would then go 1-2-3 through the second inning before allowing a fifth run in the third, though only four of the runs were earned. In his first start since being recalled to the majors, Shuster saw his command issues resurface, and he's now allowed four earned runs in each of his last three big-league outings. He's also given up two home runs in two of his last three starts.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jared Shuster: Confirmed as Saturday's starter
Shuster will start Saturday's game against the Marlins, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Shuster was recalled to the majors Wednesday but has not yet pitched. His last outing came Sept. 8 with Triple-A Gwinnett, when he worked six innings. Assuming he's effective, Shuster should be able to work deep enough into the game to qualify for a win.... Braves' Jared Shuster: Back in big leagues
Shuster was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday. Shuster looks to be in line for long relief for the time being, but it's possible he could net a spot start if Atlanta wants to give its rotation members some extra rest. The rookie left-hander holds a 5.26 ERA over 10 starts with the big club this season.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jared Shuster: Sent back to Triple-A
Atlanta optioned Shuster to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. He won't end up getting another turn through the rotation after he stepped in as Atlanta's No. 5 starter this past weekend in place of the injured Yonny Chirinos (elbow). Shuster failed to escape the fifth inning in his start against the Giants on Sunday, taking the loss while giving up four earned runs on four hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. Atlanta called up right-hander Darius Vines from Triple-A in a corresponding move, and he could end up replacing Shuster as the big club's fifth starter this week if he isn't needed in relief over the next couple of days.... Braves' Jared Shuster: Surrenders four runs in start
Shuster dropped to 4-3 after allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings in Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Giants. Making his first start for Atlanta since June 24, Shuster was solid enough through the first four innings, when he gave up two runs. He was knocked out of the game in the fifth inning, however, after he was charged with two more runs during the Giants' four-run frame. In between his last two MLB outings, Shuster made eight starts with Triple-A Gwinnett, posting an unsightly 7.32 ERA during that stretch. He now owns a 5.26 ERA and 28:24 K:BB through 49.2 MLB innings this season. If he sees another turn in the rotation, he'll likely face the Dodgers on the road next weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jared Shuster: Confirmed for Sunday's start
Shuster will start for Atlanta on Sunday in San Francisco, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Shuster has been up with the big club for a few days and available in relief, but he has been slated to start Sunday as long as he wasn't needed out of the bullpen before then. The left-hander has been unimpressive to this point in the majors, posting a 5.00 ERA and 25:22 K:BB over nine starts.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jared Shuster: Summoned to big leagues
Shuster was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. Shuster will provide some immediate protection for the bullpen, but according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, he's also a candidate to draw a start Sunday in San Francisco, depending on how/if he's needed leading into the weekend. The rookie left-hander holds a 5.00 ERA and 25:22 K:BB over nine starts with Atlanta this season.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jared Shuster: Optioned to Triple-A
Atlanta optioned Shuster to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday. Shuster allowed four earned over just 3.2 innings in his last start Saturday versus the Reds and heads back to the farm showing a 5.00 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 25:22 K:BB across his first 45 major-league innings. It looks like Michael Soroka might be joining Atlanta's rotation Friday against Miami and it also appears that Kolby Allard will get another turn next week following his excellent outing Wednesday afternoon against the Twins.... Braves' Jared Shuster: Picks up second win
Shuster (2-2) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks across 5.1 innings during a 4-2 victory over the Athletics. He struck out one. Shuster has made four straight starts since being recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in mid-May. He's finished at least five innings and allowed three or fewer runs in each of those appearances. However, walks remain an issue for the rookie left-hander, who holds a questionable 21:19 K:BB over his first 30.2 career innings. Regardless, the 2020 first-round pick figures to see plenty of work at the big-league level with Kyle Wright (shoulder) and Max Fried (forearm) not expected back from the injured list until July. Shuster's next start is scheduled during a three-game homestand versus the Mets.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jared Shuster: Possible waiver wire pickups
Shuster forced his way into the Braves rotation with a dominant spring training but then looked like a different pitcher once the games began to count, quickly getting him sent to the minors. Well, he's back now, and after two starts, he's looking different again. The first one was marred by a three-run rally in one inning, but Shuster basically went untouched in the other four. And then in his second start Sunday, he was literally untouched apart from a solo home run, allowing just the one hit over six innings. He struck out seven and generated 14 whiffs, his slider and changeup both up nearly 2 mph. Clearly, he threw with more conviction, but will he keep throwing strikes? Even in five minor-league starts, he had 5.1 BB/9. His stuff isn't good enough for that.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jared Shuster: Earns first win
Shuster (1-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on one hit and one walk over six innings in a 3-2 win over the Mariners. He struck out seven. The only hit Shuster allowed through a career-high six innings was a solo home run to Jarred Kelenic in the second. It was by far the rookie's best start of his short career, as he lowered his ERA from 7.24 to 5.49 and recorded a season-high seven strikeouts. Shuster figures to see plenty of work at the big-league level with Kyle Wright (shoulder) and Max Fried (forearm) not expected back from the injured list until July, especially if he continues to pitch like he did Sunday. The 2020 first-round pick's next start is scheduled during a four-game set versus the Phillies.... See More ... See Less
