The Yankees optioned Beeter to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. The move corresponds with the Yankees calling up Tanner Tully. Beeter made New York's Opening Day roster as part of the bullpen, and he threw a scoreless ninth inning in Friday's win over the Astros. Beeter will get some reps in Triple-A and work towards returning to the majors.... See More ... See Less

Yankees' Clayton Beeter: Tosses scoreless frame in debut
Beeter allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth inning during Friday's game against Houston. Beeter's MLB debut came in the bottom of the ninth frame with New York up 7-1. His first pitch was grounded by Jose Altuve to right field for a single, but Beeter then induced a one-pitch double play groundout off the bat of Yordan Alvarez before getting Kyle Tucker to fly out on one pitch. Altogether, Beeter needed just three pitches to get through the frame. The right-hander didn't win a starting job out of camp despite a strong spring training, but he made the Opening Day roster as a long reliever and could be first in line to move into a starting role should another injury hit the Yankees' rotation.... Yankees' Clayton Beeter: Makes Opening Day roster
Beeter has been informed that he'll be included on the Yankees' Opening Day roster, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Luis Gil has been announced as the Yankees' fifth starter, so Beeter will begin the season in the bullpen as a long man. Beeter has yet to appear in a major-league game, having collected a 3.62 ERA and 165:75 K:BB over 131.2 innings between Double-A Somerset and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Clayton Beeter: Could step into rotation
Beeter is a candidate to claim a spot in the Yankees' Opening Day rotation if Gerrit Cole (elbow) needs to miss time, Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media reports. Beeter has impressed in Grapefruit League play this spring, posting a 2.00 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB over nine innings across three outings, including two starts. In the right-hander's most recent appearance, he recorded four scoreless frames with four strikeouts against Philadelphia. Meanwhile, Cole has already undergone an MRI and is slated for additional testing on his pitching elbow, and manager Aaron Boone acknowledged Monday that the ace is unlikely to be ready for the start of the campaign, per Erik Boland of Newsday. Along with Beeter, fellow youngsters Will Warren and Luis Gil are candidates to fill in for Cole if he does indeed need to miss time, although Warren isn't on the 40-man roster.... See More ... Yankees' Clayton Beeter: Protected from Rule 5 Draft
The Yankees selected Beeter to their 40-man roster Tuesday. After a hot start at Double-A Somerset, Beeter ran into some problems at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with a 4.94 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 71 innings. However, Beeter finished with three earned runs given up across 16 innings in his final three Triple-A starts -- a promising sign for the 25-year-old righty.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Clayton Beeter: Dominant finish at Triple-A
Beeter logged a 1.69 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 27 strikeouts in 16 innings over his final three starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The best Triple-A hitters have mostly been promoted to the majors at this stage of the season, but it was still an excellent way for Beeter to close his age-24 season. Beeter's 93-mph fastball (touches 97 mph) and sweeping slider have been an excellent bat-missing duo -- he also sparingly throws quality third and fourth pitches in his curveball and changeup -- but his command and control have held him back at times. At the very least, it would seem Beeter could help a big-league bullpen at some point next season, and he will need to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason if the Yankees want to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.... Yankees' Clayton Beeter: Headed to Bronx for Gallo
Beeter was traded from the Dodgers to the Yankees on Tuesday in exchange for Joey Gallo, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports. Beeter has premium stuff but profiles better as a power reliever than as a starter. He has made 18 appearances this year at Double-A and has not gone more than four innings in any one outing, averaging under three innings per appearance (51.2 total innings). The 23-year-old righty has a 5.75 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, 36.1 K% and 14.3 BB%. Even with his excellent fastball/curveball combination, he will need to cut down on the walks to be trusted with high-leverage work on a team as flush with bullpen talent as the Yankees....
