  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Returning to Rams

Johnson agreed to terms with the Rams on Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Johnson spent most of last season on Los Angeles' practice squad, but he did get into the team's Week 18 game against San Francisco, catching two of three targets for eight yards and scoring a touchdown. He also has played with Tampa Bay and Houston in his NFL career, and his most prolific season came with the Buccaneers in 2021, when he recorded 36 catches for 360 yards. The news of his re-signing was shared initially by his agency, though terms were not disclosed.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Earns just two touches in 2023

Johnson caught two passes for eight yards and a touchdown during the 2023 regular season. There was little opportunity for the fourth year wideout to produce, as the receiving corps as a whole for the Rams stayed relatively healthy apart from Cooper Kupp missing four games at the start of the year. Johnson was only activated from the practice squad once all season, earning his third touchdown in four seasons in the NFL with both the Rams and 49ers resting starters for the playoffs. Johnson is a restricted free agent in 2024, but with how little he was utilized by the Rams, he likely will have to find an opportunity elsewhere next season.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Scores first touchdown since 2020

Johnson secured two of three targets for eight yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 21-20 victory against San Francisco. With the Rams resting players, Johnson was activated from the practice squad for the second time this season and made his first appearance in a game since 2022 count. Carson Wentz threw a dart to Johnson in the back of the end zone on a crucial third down, giving Johnson an eight-yard touchdown catch, his first score since his rookie campaign with Tampa Bay in 2020. The Rams are firmly entrenched with Cooper Kupp (coach's decision), Puka Nacua and Demarcus Robinson as their starters and have Tutu Atwell, Ben Skowronek and Austin Trammell as backups, so Johnson's time on the main roster this season is likely over barring an injury in the playoffs.

  • Tyler Johnson: Returns to practice squad

Johnson reverted to the Rams' practice squad Monday. Johnson was active, but he didn't play in Sunday's win over the Commanders. The wide receiver has yet to appear in a game this season and will now wait for his next shot to be elevated from the practice unit.

  • Tyler Johnson: Waived by Los Angeles

The Rams waived Johnson on Tuesday, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports. Johnson had a stellar performance during the Rams' preseason opener but declined over the next two exhibition matchups and was unable to land a spot on the 53-man roster. The Minnesota product appeared in just two games with the Texans last year and will now need to seek out other opportunities.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Garners just six yards

Johnson caught two of three targets for six yards in Saturday's 41-0 preseason loss to the Broncos. Drawing the start alongside fellow roster bubble candidate Demarcus Robinson, Johnson was unable to do much with his trio of targets on a night the Rams offense as a whole failed at every level. Ben Skowronek notably got the night off, a sign coach Sean McVay is sold on him making the 53-man roster. This would make Skowronek the fifth wideout on the team along with Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson, Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua. The Rams did keep seven wide receivers on their roster last year, but if they choose to add more depth at other positions, Robinson's utility at multiple roles in the offense might give him a slight edge over Johnson for what could be the final wide receiver slot on the team.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Paces L.A. receivers in loss

Johnson secured five of seven targets for 70 yards during the Rams' 34-17 preseason loss to the Chargers on Saturday. A breakout performance in the preseason doesn't always translate to success in the regular season; just ask 2022 Rams preseason darling Lance McCutcheon. But it does help move the needle above fellow wideouts who may be on the roster bubble, and Johnson impressed with a pair of lengthy catches, including a team-high 34-yard scamper on a slant route, and led the team in catches, targets and yardage. With Cooper Kupp (hamstring), Van Jefferson, Puka Nacua, Tutu Atwell and Ben Skowronek all likely to make the initial 53-man roster, Johnson and fellow free-agent signing DeMarcus Robinson are in a pack with McCutcheon, Austin Trammel and Xavier Smith, among others, for likely two remaining roster spots, as the Rams kept seven wide receivers on the initial 53-man roster in 2022.

  • Rams' Tyler Johnson: Lands in Los Angeles

The Rams signed Johnson on Tuesday. Los Angeles will be Johnson's third stop this calendar year after he was released by the Bucs in January, signed by the Raiders shortly after, and then cut by Las Vegas two weeks ago. The 24-year-old appeared in two games for the Texans last season but didn't earn a target on 29 offensive snaps. He'll try to revive his career in the Rams' depleted wideout room behind Cooper Kupp.

  • Tyler Johnson: Dumped by Las Vegas

The Raiders waived Johnson on Monday. The 24-year-old inked a reserve/future contract with the Silver and Black earlier in the offseason after appearing in two games for the Texans in 2022. Johnson heads back to the open market, where he will again look for a team willing to let him compete for a depth job.

  • Texans' Tyler Johnson: Third-highest snap count Week 5

Johnson wasn't targeted over 25 snaps on offense Sunday in Texans' 13-6 win over the Jaguars. Johnson was active for the second consecutive week and was handed the third-highest snap count among wideouts, moving ahead of Phillip Dorsett on the depth chart. He took the role that would normally go to the inactive Chris Moore (hip). If the Texans don't have to pass, they won't, so targets among the position group are typically scarce and usually go to Brandin Cooks or Nico Collins.

  • Texans' Tyler Johnson: Active for Week 4

Johnson is active for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports. Johnson has not suited up for a game this season, but he will have a chance to see action Sunday for the first time since being claimed off waivers from the Buccaneers in late August. Johnson will be one of five active Texans receivers, so it's unlikely he will fill a key role even if he does get on the field.

  • Texans' Tyler Johnson: Lands in Houston

The Texans claimed Johnson off waivers from the Buccaneers on Wednesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. Johnson, who caught 36 of his 55 targets for 360 yards in 17 games with the Buccaneers last season, lands in a spot where could could carve out a key role on offense once he's up to speed with the Texans' playbook. Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins profile as Houston's top two wideouts, but beyond those two options, plenty of targets are up for grabs.

  • Tyler Johnson: Caught up in roster cuts

The Buccaneers waived Johnson on Tuesday, Michael Giardi of NFL Network reports. Johnson, a 2020 fifth-round pick, finds himself on the outside of Tampa Bay's deep wide receiver corps despite putting together a solid preseason, which he capped off by catching three of four targets for 36 yards during Saturday's finale versus the Colts. He appeared in all 17 regular-season games last year, securing 36 of 55 targets for 360 receiving yards. It's something of a surprise to see the Buccaneers part ways with Johnson, and he's a candidate to be claimed on waivers.

  • Buccaneers' Tyler Johnson: Three catches in preseason finale

Johnson brought in three of four targets for 36 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-10 preseason loss to the Colts on Saturday night. Johnson already seemingly has the No. 5 wideout spot sealed up, but he co-led the team in receptions in the preseason finale for good measure. The third-year receiver put together a very strong body of work in both training camp and exhibition games this summer, and given he already has a solid rapport with Tom Brady, Johnson could carve out his fair share of opportunities over the course of the regular season despite the wealth of talent ahead of him.

  • Buccaneers' Tyler Johnson: Paces pass catchers in opener

Johnson brought in six of seven targets for 73 yards in the Buccaneers' 26-24 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday night. Johnson led the Buccaneers in receptions, receiving yards and targets on a night when none of Mike Evans (hamstring), Chris Godwin (knee), Julio Jones (coach's decision) and Russell Gage (leg) saw the field. The third-year wideout made a notable statement in his bid to lock down a spot in the latter half of the Buccaneers' wide receiver depth chart and should continue to log plenty of snaps again in next Saturday night's road exhibition matchup versus the Titans.

  • Buccaneers' Tyler Johnson: Impressing early in camp

Johnson, who's been a full participant in training camp after finishing last season's postseason run with a rib injury, has made a strong impression in his bid for the No. 5 receiver job, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports. "Tyler came in in great shape," head coach Todd Bowles said. "I think he's learned the offense a little more, so he's playing a lot freer than he was the last two years. This is a great camp for him. He'll get a lot of playing time, and we'll get to see what he's really doing." Auman notes Johnson has particularly impressed with catches over the middle in 7-on-7 and full-squad drills. The third-year pro has acquitted himself relatively well in limited opportunity over his first two seasons, taking advantage of injuries in the Buccaneers' receiving corps at times on his way to generating a 48-529-2 line on 72 targets across 31 games. With Tampa Bay's top four wideouts set, Johnson is battling several candidates, including capable holdovers Breshad Perriman and Scotty Miller, for a spot on the back end of the positional depth chart this summer.

  • Buccaneers' Tyler Johnson: Modest receiving yardage in finale

Johnson secured five of seven targets for 22 yards in the Buccaneers' 41-17 win over the Panthers on Sunday. The second-year wideout was certainly busy, tying with Mike Evans for second on the team in targets behind Rob Gronkowski. However, Johnson averaged just 4.4 yards per catch, leading to a decidedly underwhelming fantasy day. Despite the modest output, it's worth noting Johnson logged one more target and as many catches as veteran Breshad Perriman, so he should be expected to enjoy a solid role in the air attack once again versus the Eagles in Sunday's wild-card matchup.

  • Buccaneers' Tyler Johnson: Set to fill in for Godwin

Johnson is expected to serve as the primary replacement for Chris Godwin (knee) in Sunday's game against the Panthers, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports. Tampa Bay will get Antonio Brown back from a lengthy absence due to an ankle sprain and a suspension, but the losses of Godwin for the season and Mike Evans (hamstring) for at least Week 16 should open up more snaps at receiver for the likes of Johnson, Scotty Miller and Justin Watson. Considering Johnson had already been playing 60-plus percent of the Bucs' offensive snaps in all but one of the team's last eight games, he's likely a better bet than Miller and Watson to absorb the larger portion of Godwin's and Evans' vacated targets. Johnson had already stepped up when the two starting wideouts exited early in last week's 9-0 loss to the Saints, finishing with four receptions for 41 yards on seven targets.

  • Buccaneers' Tyler Johnson: Steps up for injured starters

Johnson had four receptions (seven targets) for 41 yards in Sunday's 9-0 loss to New Orleans. The Buccaneers lost wideouts Mike Evans (hamstring) and Chris Godwin (knee) early in this contest, opening the door for Johnson to see an expanded role in the passing game. The 2020 fifth-round draft pick had seen 60 percent or more of the offensive snaps in six of the Bucs' last seven contests, but he averaged just 2.3 receptions and 19.6 yards per game over that stretch of games. Johnson and fellow wideout Scotty Miller (2-18-0) may see increased usage against the Panthers next Sunday if Evans and/or Godwin are unable to suit up.

  • Buccaneers' Tyler Johnson: Three grabs over 49 snaps

Johnson secured all three of his targets for 17 yards in the Buccaneers' 33-27 overtime win over the Bills on Sunday. A week after logging just nine snaps in a win over the Falcons, Johnson bumped all the way up to 49 plays from scrimmage, the highest total among Tampa Bay wideouts behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Johnson parlayed the opportunity into his best catch total since Week 10, but his modest yardage still made it a forgettable fantasy day. With Scotty Miller a healthy scratch Sunday, Johnson appears to be firmly ahead of the Bowling Green product on the depth chart and could continue as the No. 3 wideout for a Week 15 divisional clash against the Saints, although there's always the possibility Breshad Perriman eats into his opportunities.
