Shakir faces a clearer path to targets in 2024 after the Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Texans on Wednesday, just a few weeks after Gabe Davis signed as a free agent with the Jaguars.
One would think Bills general manager Brandon Beane has a second move up his sleeve following Wednesday's blockbuster deal, plus Buffalo will almost certainly select one or two wide receivers toward the top of their draft. For the time being, though, Shakir and newcomer Curtis Samuel are the team's top two receivers. Shakir, who is heading into his third NFL season, is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he produced a 39-611-2 receiving line over 17 regular-season games. His fantasy prospects continue to trend upward, especially with Josh Allen's strong arm delivering him the ball.

Shakir got the start in place of the injured Gabe Davis (knee) and wound up having to briefly leave Sunday's playoff tilt with an injury of his own. The second-year wideout recovered quickly from his shoulder issue and finished the spot start as the Bills' top producer while leading his club in targets. Shakir finished a solid sophomore campaign (39/611/2 in the regular season) with a strong postseason receiving line of 10/75/2 across two playoff games. Buffalo has a decision to make on the aforementioned Davis this upcoming offseason, and Shakir's fine work as the Bills' slot man in 2023 could earn him more work alongside No. 1 wideout Stefon Diggs next season.

Since posting three catches for 115 yards and a touchdown in Week 11, Shakir hasn't topped 47 receiving yards in the ensuing five games and remains a fantasy option only in deep leagues while he's stuck in an offense with many mouths to feed. With the Bills possibly having everything on the line for a playoff spot Sunday against the Dolphins and at the very least having important seeding at stake, Shakir doesn't project to see an expanded role while Buffalo has all its key players suit up. On a brighter note for his longer-term outlook, Shakir has firmly cemented himself as the team's No. 3 wideout in just his second NFL season.

We'll see if he can sustain this level of play moving forward, and the Bills have a great matchup in Week 12 against the Eagles. You know Stefon Diggs and Dalton Kincaid remain the priority in the passing game, and Gabe Davis is in the mix as well. But Shakir is a good stash candidate to see what develops since his big game came in the first outing under new offensive coordinator Joe Brady. Shakir is worth adding for 1 percent of your FAB.

Shakir finished third on Buffalo in receiving yards on the night and tied James Cook for the same slotting in receptions and targets, making it a solid encore to his career-best 6-92 line in the Week 8 win over the Buccaneers. Shakir notably had a much bigger role in the air attack Sunday than No. 2 receiver Gabe Davis, who didn't gather in either of his two targets. Nevertheless, Shakir figures to remain in the No. 3 role, at least on the depth chart, in a Week 10 Monday night home matchup against the Broncos on Nov. 13.

This was the first time all season Shakir has caught more than one ball in a game, so there's still a long way to go for him to offer fantasy value. He saw action on 36 percent of the offensive plays compared to 27 percent for receiver teammate Deonte Harty and 23 percent for Trent Sherfield. Perhaps one of those players will see more involvement in the passing game now that tight end Dawson Knox is set to miss time with a wrist injury, though most of that overflow should head toward rookie TE Dalton Kincaid.

Shakir was pretty far down the pecking order in a potent offense, but he did well as a fifth-round rookie just to be part of a veteran team's rotation. He even appeared in both playoff games and had 40-plus receiving yards in each. While the Bills will have some changes this offseason, most of the receiving room should remain intact and there could be added competition if veterans Cole Beasley and Jamison Crowder return. Shakir most recently played 45 percent of the team's offensive snaps Thanksgiving, but he failed to see any targets, and he hasn't recorded a catch since Week 10 against the Vikings, then Week 6 against the Chiefs before that. He'll continue working to grab a larger target share Thursday against the New England, if he can recover in time to play.
