  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Two points in win

Staal tallied a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over Minnesota. After the Wild scored halfway through the first period, Staal answered with a backhand goal of his own that beat Filip Gustavsson. Staal added an assist on the game-tying goal in the second period, provided one shot on net, three hits and a plus-1 rating in 15:15 of ice time. He had not scored in any of the three prior games and only has 15 points on the season. Unless you're in a very deep league or desperately need faceoff wins, it's best to leave Jordan Staal on the waiver wire and target players with a higher offensive ceiling.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: On four-game point streak

Staal notched an assist and three shots on goal in Monday's 6-3 win over the Blackhawks. Staal is on a four-game point streak, picking up a goal and four assists in that span. He helped out on Jordan Martinook's empty-net tally to keep the run going Monday. Staal is up to 21 points, 90 shots on net, 97 hits, 30 PIM and a minus-9 rating over 55 outings. He remains a fixture on the Hurricanes' third line, and he'll have some fantasy appeal while his offense is warm.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Gathers helper Saturday

Staal logged a shorthanded assist, two shots on goal and three hits in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Golden Knights. Staal set up Seth Jarvis' marker early in the third period, which ended up being the game-winner. With five points over six games since the All-Star break, Staal has gotten his offense humming while maintaining his solid defensive play from the third line. He's at 20 points, 87 shots on net, 103 hits and a minus-9 rating through 54 appearances.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Generates early assist

Staal registered an assist and went plus-2 in Friday's 5-1 win over the Coyotes. Staal has four points over his last four games, which is one of his best stretches of the campaign. He got on the scoresheet quickly with the secondary helper on Jordan Martinook's opening tally 16 seconds into the game Friday. Staal is at 19 points, 85 shots on net, 94 hits, 26 blocked shots, 30 PIM and a minus-10 rating through 53 outings. He's still got time to secure his fourth straight 30-point campaign from his usual third-line role.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Goal, assist in loss

Staal tallied a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Stars. Staal had a hand in both of Carolina's goals Tuesday, scoring 13 seconds into the second period to tie the game 1-1 before adding an assist on Jesper Fast's tally later in the frame. It's Staal's first multi-point game since Nov. 30, though he now has three points in his last three contests. The 35-year-old center is up to seven goals and 18 points through 52 games this season.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Notches helper Thursday

Staal snagged an assist versus Colorado on Thursday. Staal has managed just one goal in his last 18 contests while chipping in four assists. During his goal slump, the center has recorded just 27 shots, which won't improve his chances of finding the back of the net. While Staal could miss the 15-goal threshold for the first time since 2019-20, he should be able to top the 30-point mark for the fourth straight season.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Pots game-winner Thursday

Staal scored the game-winning goal on his only shot on net in Thursday's 2-1 victory over the Red Wings. The 35-year-old has just four goals in 29 games on the season, but three of them have come in the last eight contests. Staal's days of being an enticing fantasy option are long behind him, but he's still handling a regular shift in a bottom-six role for the Hurricanes. Staal's effectiveness even with that assignment is in question, as his minus-10 rating would be his worst mark in over a decade if it doesn't improve, and he's on pace to finish with fewer than 100 hits over a full season for the first time since he was a fresh-faced 19-year-old in 2007-08.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Breaks up shutout bid

Staal scored a goal on three shots and added two hits in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Oilers. Staal scored in the third period, ending Stuart Skinner's shutout bid in the lopsided game. With three points over his last four games, Staal has been solid lately. The third-line center isn't a big contributor on offense at 35 years old -- he's earned three goals, six assists and 43 shots on net through 25 contests this season. He's added 28 hits, 18 PIM and a minus-7 rating while drawing plenty of tough defensive assignments.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Gets two points Thursday

Staal recorded a goal and an assist in Carolina's 5-4 overtime loss to the Islanders on Thursday. Staal's marker came early in the second period to put the Hurricanes up 2-1. He then got the primary helper on Sebastian Aho's goal in the dying seconds of the third frame to force overtime. This was Staal's third multi-point contest of the campaign, but despite that, he has just eight points (two goals) in 22 outings. The 35-year-old didn't accomplish much offensively from Oct. 21-Nov. 28, registering just two assists over 16 contests, and that likely won't be the only substantial cold stretch he has this campaign.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: One shot in win

Staal recorded one shot on goal along with one hit in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Flyers. The 35-year-old center has recorded one assist in his last eight games. He hasn't produced much this year with only six points (one goal and five assists). However, in the last eight contests he's averaging 14:39 of ice time and has collected 12 hits and four blocked shots. Staal will continue to provide a veteran presence from Carolina's bottom six.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Adds to modest point total Saturday

Staal recorded an assist on a pair of shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Islanders. The 35-year-old Staal now has just five points on the season (1G, 4A), and he has been held off the scoresheet in nine of the 12 games he's played so far. Staal's point totals have been in the mid-30's the past two seasons, which is the same pace he's on right now, so he's nothing if not consistent from a scoring perspective.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Hands out two assists

Staal notched two assists and three shots on goal in Thursday's 7-4 loss to the Kraken. Staal helped out on goals by Jesper Fast and Seth Jarvis, with the latter's goal coming on the power play. The 35-year-old Staal typically doesn't see much power-play time -- he didn't record a point with the man advantage at all last season. He's up to one goal, three helpers, eight shots on net, five hits and a minus-1 rating through five outings in 2023-24.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Goal, assist in opening win

Staal tallied a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Senators. Staal extended Carolina's lead to 3-1 with a goal 20 seconds into the third period before adding an assist on Brady Skjei's tally later in the frame. The 35-year-old Staal re-signed with the Hurricanes in the offseason after posting 17 goals and 34 points in 81 games last year. He'll be relied on again to provide secondary scoring this season while typically skating in a bottom-six role.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Staying with Carolina

Staal signed a four-year, $11.6 million contract with the Hurricanes on Saturday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports. The exact terms of the deal have yet to be confirmed by the Hurricanes, but it's expected the delay is due to language involving a no-trade clause. Staal has gone five straight years without reaching the 40-point mark, but he remains a reliable defensive center capable of playing a shutdown role against the opponent's best players. Staal had a $6 million cap hit on his previous deal, a 10-year contract he signed in 2012.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Picks up two helpers Tuesday

Staal recorded two assists in a 6-1 victory over New Jersey in Game 4 on Tuesday. Staal extended his scoring streak to four contests, and he has two goals and six points in that span. His success in the second round mirrors Carolina's as the squad has outscored New Jersey 21-11 in the series. Staal wasn't nearly as productive offensively in the first round against the Islanders, registering two assists in six outings.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Supplies goal vs. Devils

Staal provided a goal in Carolina's 6-1 victory over the Devils in Game 2 on Friday. It was Staal's first goal and fifth point in eight playoff contests this year. He's been particularly effective in the second round, contributing three points through two outings. Staal's marker came late in the second period to extend Carolina's lead to 3-0.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Two helpers in series opener

Staal dished out two helpers in Wednesday's 5-1 Game 1 win over the Devils. Staal assisted on Carolina's first and last goals of the game. He helped Brett Pesce open the scoring less than 10 minutes in before setting up Jesper Fast's empty-netter late in the third. Staal's still searching for his first goal this postseason, and Wednesday's effort doubled his playoff assist total to four through seven games.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Back at it with helper

Staal recorded an assist in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Sabres. Staal helped the Hurricanes to a 2-1 advantage in the first period, but the Sabres would rally for the home win. Fantasy managers depending on the veteran will take the points any way they can get them, as Staal had box-score goose eggs in four straight contests with three shots total amid that slump heading into Saturday's clash with Buffalo.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Scoring drought continues

Staal extended his current pointless streak to eight games in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Maple Leafs. Staal has been as streaky as they come this season, with stretches of productivity (11 points in 13 games during the month of December) followed by long droughts like the one he's in now. Still, he's on pace for something resembling the 36 points he posted last season (17G, 19A), so if you drafted him with that in mind, you're not likely to be disappointed.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Tallies in Wednesday's loss

Staal scored a goal and levied six hits in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Golden Knights. Staal tipped in a Brent Burns shot to tie the game at 12:44 of the third period. Since the All-Star break, Staal has four points, eight shots on net and 18 hits through eight contests. The 34-year-old center is up to 16 tallies, 29 points, 82 shots on net, 118 hits and a plus-8 rating through 58 outings overall.
