Marlins general manager Kim Ng said Sunday that Iglesias won't make the Opening Day roster but will stay in the organization, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The Marlins signed Iglesias earlier this month on a minor-league deal and afforded him the opportunity to compete for a reserve role with the big club, but another veteran non-roster invitee in Yuli Gurriel appears set to beat him out for the bench gig. Iglesias received only 13 plate appearances over five Grapefruit League games, hitting just .167. Iglesias will presumably head to Triple-A Jacksonville rather than immediately opting out of his minor-league deal to pursue opportunities elsewhere.... See More ... See Less

Marlins' Jose Iglesias: On roster bubble
Iglesias is not considered a lock to make the Marlins' Opening Day roster, Barry Jackson and Craig Mish of the Miami Herald report. It sounds like there will be just one roster spot for either Iglesias or Yuli Gurriel, both of whom are in camp as non-roster invitees. Which way the team might be leaning out of the two isn't clear. Iglesias, 33, is 2-for-11 in four games so far during Grapefruit League play and "hasn't looked great this spring," per Jackson and Mish.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jose Iglesias: Joins Marlins
Iglesias signed a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training with the Marlins on Thursday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Iglesias spent the 2022 season with Colorado and managed a solid .292/.328/.380 line across 467 appearances. He won't have the benefit of Coors Field as his home park with Miami, though he should have a legitimate chance to make the Opening Day roster as insurance at shortstop behind Joey Wendle.... Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Takes seat for finale
Iglesias isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. Iglesias went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Tuesday and will head to the bench for the third time in the last four games. Elehuris Montero is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth.... Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Not in Monday's lineup
Iglesias isn't starting Monday against the Dodgers. Iglesias has gone 1-for-12 with a strikeout over three games since returning from the injured list, and he'll head to the bench for a second consecutive matchup. Brendan Rodgers is serving as the designated hitter and batting third.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Heads to bench Sunday
Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Iglesias is 1-for-12 in three games since being activated from the injured list Wednesday, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's series finale. C.J. Cron will serve as the designated hitter while Michael Toglia starts at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Not in Thursday's lineup
Iglesias isn't starting Thursday against the Giants, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Iglesias returned from the injured list for Wednesday's game against San Francisco and went 0-for-4. He'll head to the bench a day later while Elehuris Montero serves as the designated hitter and bats seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Returns from IL
Iglesias (thumb) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at shortstop and batting second Wednesday against the Giants, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. The 32-year-old has been sidelined over three weeks by the thumb injury but will rejoin the Rockies for the final week of the season. Prospect Ezequiel Tovar has taken over the starting role at shortstop, but Iglesias should still find regular playing time down the stretch in the middle infield and at designated hitter, especially with Charlie Blackmon (knee) now done for the year.... Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Getting closer to return
Iglesias (thumb) is feeling better and getting closer to making a return, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Manager Bud Black still has yet to announce a timetable for Iglesias, but the news of progress is still good for a Rockies team that has been plagued with injuries to its best players late in the season. Alan Trejo continues to mash in his absence, slashing .308/.372/.538 with seven RBI since arriving to Colorado earlier this month.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: No timetable to return
Iglesias (thumb) remains without a timeline to return from the 10-day injured list, MLB.com reports. Iglesias is first eligible to return from the IL on Thursday, and the swelling on his thumb continues to reduce. However, he's still doing work in the training room, so he seems unlikely to return after a minimum-length stint on the shelf. Alan Trejo has taken over as the primary shortstop in Iglesias' absence and has gone 8-for-25 with two homers, five RBI and four runs scored across eight games since being recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.... Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Heads to injured list
Iglesias was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuedsay retroactive to Sept. 5 with a right hand contusion. Iglesias hasn't played since he injured his hand while swinging during the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Reds. Alan Trejo and Garrett Hampson will likely compete for starting reps at shortstop over the next couple of weeks while Iglesias is absent.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Getting MRI on hand
Rockies manager Bud Black said prior to Monday's game against the Brewers that Iglesias will require an MRI for his sore left hand, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Iglesias doesn't look like he'll be available for the series opener after he exited the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Reds with the hand injury. Alan Trejo will pick up the start at shortstop Monday, though he could face competition for reps at the position from Garrett Hampson if Iglesias' hand injury is serious enough to force a trip to the 10-day injured list.... Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Remains out Monday
Iglesias (hand) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers. Iglesias will sit for the second game in a row after he exited the front end of Sunday's doubleheader in Cincinnati when he hurt his hand on a swing. The 32-year-old is considered day-to-day while he manages the sore hand, but the Rockies don't yet believe that he'll require a stint on the injured list. Alan Trejo will spell Iglesias at shortstop Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Hurts hand Sunday
Iglesias was removed in the fourth inning of the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Reds due to an apparent hand injury, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout prior to departing the contest. Saunders notes that Iglesias appeared to suffer the injury on a swing during his second and final plate appearance of the afternoon. The Rockies have yet to provide an update on Iglesias' condition since his departure, but he'll most likely be out of the lineup for the second game of the twin bill. Alan Trejo replaced Iglesias at shortstop in Game 1.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Gets Sunday off
Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Iglesias will take a seat for the third Sunday in a row, opening up shortstop for Garrett Hampson. While starting in each of the past five games, Iglesias went 5-for-19 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Not starting Sunday
Iglesias is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. Iglesias went hitless over the last two games after going 27-for-65 (.415) over his previous 17 contests, so manager Bud Black decided it was time for a day off. Garrett Hampson will start at shortstop in Iglesias' place.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Three hits in blowout win
Iglesias went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 16-5 win over the Cardinals. Iglesias received a breather Sunday, but it didn't slow him down at the plate. The infielder's three-hit effort Tuesday was already his third in eight games in August, and he's batted .412 (14-for-34) this month. The 31-year-old still isn't much of a power threat with just three home runs this season, but he's maintained a .316/.358/.417 slash line with 41 RBI, 42 runs scored, two stolen bases and 26 doubles through 94 contests as the Rockies' starting shortstop.... Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Steps out of lineup
Iglesias is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. Iglesias started the past 12 games and will receive Sunday off after producing a .391/.451/.522 slash line with six doubles, six RBI and eight runs during that span. Garrett Hampson will take over at shortstop Sunday in Arizona.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Piling up hits
Iglesias went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Padres. Iglesias did the majority of his damage on an RBI double in the fifth inning, and he was also able to come around to score in the same frame. He piled up hits across Colorado's five-game set at San Diego, going 9-for-21 with three RBI and four runs scored. Iglesias has quietly maintained an impressive .770 OPS across 358 plate appearances on the season.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Five hits Tuesday
Iglesias went 5-for-8 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Padres. Iglesias collected multiple hits in each game and now has two or more knocks in six of his last 10 starts. In that span, he's hit .429 with eight runs scored and three RBI. Iglesias has maintained an excellent .313 batting average across 340 plate appearances for the season, which has also allowed him to tally 39 runs scored and 37 RBI.... See More ... See Less
