Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Beginning rehab assignment Monday
Garcia (back) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Garcia will likely need a handful of games before being able to return to the Miami lineup. The outfielder has been on the injured list since the start of May with lingering tightness in his back, and he was struggling to a .188/.243/.333 slash over 76 plate appearances before he was placed on the shelf. It remains to be seen if he'll have an everyday lineup spot once he's back on the Miami roster.

Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Cleared for some activities
Garcia (back) is taking part in workouts, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
It's not exactly clear where Garcia stands in his recovery from a back injury, but per the report, he is throwing, running and doing agility work at the Marlins' spring training complex. Expect a few players to man right field for Miami with both Garcia and Jesus Sanchez (hamstring) sidelined.

Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Lands on 10-day IL
Garcia was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to April 29, with back tightness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Garcia is off to a brutal start this season with the Marlins, slashing just .188/.243/.333 through 76 plate appearances. He can use the time on the IL as both a physical and mental reset, though his production levels in 2022 were also quite poor. Xavier Edwards has been brought up in a corresponding move.

Marlins' Avisail Garcia: May have lost regular lineup spot
Garcia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
The righty-hitting Garcia had already sat in two of the Marlins' previous three matchups against right-handed pitching, but it's perhaps even more discouraging that he'll hit the bench Sunday despite the fact that the Cubs are bringing a southpaw (Justin Steele) to the hill. Garrett Hampson will step in as the Marlins' right fielder in place of Garcia, who is beginning to lose work after slashing .188/.243/.333 with a career-worst 31.1 percent strikeout rate through his first 74 plate appearances of the season.

Garcia went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Sunday's loss to Cleveland.
Garcia cut the Marlins' deficit to 6-4 with a three-run home run in the eighth inning, a 417-foot shot to center field off James Karinchak. The homer is Garcia's second of the year and just his third extra-base hit. The 31-year-old outfielder had struggled at the plate prior to the home run Sunday, going 3-for-20 over his last six games. He's slashing .164/.207/.291 with five RBI through 60 plate appearances this season.

Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Available off bench
Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said Garcia (wrist) will be available off the bench for Monday's game against the Giants, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Though he'll be out of the lineup for the series opener after hurting his right wrist when it was drilled by a pitch in Sunday's 5-0 loss to the Diamondbacks, Garcia looks like he'll avoid a stint on the injured list. Schumaker noted that Garcia was able to take batting practice in the cage Monday without issue, so the 31-year-old could be called upon to pinch hit, if necessary.

Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Won't start Monday
Garcia (wrist) is out of the lineup Monday against the Giants, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Garcia had to depart Sunday's game versus the Diamondbacks when he was hit on the right wrist after swinging at a pitch. X-rays came back clean and he's listed as day-to-day, but he's surely still sore. Jesus Sanchez will handle right field Monday in place of Garcia.

Garcia had X-rays come back negative and was diagnosed with a right wrist contusion after exiting Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Garcia swung at a pitch that hit him during the seventh inning and was unable to finish the plate appearance. The 31-year-old appears to have avoided a serious injury and should be considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener versus the Giants.

Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Held out again Wednesday
Garcia (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
It's the third straight contest on the bench for Garcia after he tweaked his left hamstring Sunday. The Marlins are off Thursday, so the team is presumably hopeful that Garcia will be feeling well enough to play Friday versus the Diamondbacks. If he's not ready by Friday, a stint on the injured list might be in the forecast.

Garcia (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
The Marlins will give Garcia at least one day off to manage the left hamstring injury he picked up in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Mets. Manager Skip Schumaker will roll out an outfield of Bryan De La Cruz, Jazz Chisholm and Jorge Soler from left to right while Garcia is on the bench.

Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Swats first homer of year
Garcia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Twins.
He turned on a Kenta Maeda (arm) offering with one out in the second inning and drove it over the left-field wall, and that was all the offense Sandy Alcantara would need on the night. Garcia struck out in his other two at-bats, however, and he's now 3-for-16 (.188) on the season with six K's, and just the one extra-base hit in Tuesday's long ball. After a down 2022, the 31-year-old will need to pick up the pace if he wants to keep a starting role in Miami.

Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Out of lineup
Garcia will sit Saturday against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Heralde reports.
Garcia went 0-for-6 in the first two games of the year following a spring in which he struck out 20 times while walking just once. If he continues to struggle and Bryan De La Cruz and Jesus Sanchez both hit well, he could be ask risk of losing playing time.

Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Wraps up tough spring
Garcia went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Sunday's split-squad game against the Nationals.
The veteran outfielder is coming off a 2022 season in which he posted career worsts with a .583 OPS and 28.7 percent strikeout rate, and he hit only eight home runs in 98 games. Unfortunately, his performance this spring doesn't suggest a rebound is on the horizon. Garcia went 7-for-49 (.143) with two homers and two doubles during Grapefruit League play, but his 1:20 BB:K is especially troubling. If he has a slow start to his 2023, the 31-year-old could lose playing time quickly as the Marlins have plenty of options to handle the corner outfield spots, including Bryan De La Cruz, Jesus Sanchez and Jorge Soler.
