  • Mike Olt: Announces retirement

Olt announced his retirement from baseball Friday, Robert Murray of The Athletic reports. Once a well-regarded prospect, Olt's career didn't end up panning out as he would have hoped. He last played in the big leagues in 2015 and hit just .168/.250/.330 over 400 major-league plate appearances.

  • Twins' Mike Olt: Released by Twins

Olt was released by the Twins on Saturday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. Olt failed to win even a spot on the Twins' Triple-A roster. As a 30-year-old who hasn't played in the majors since 2015, Olt is unlikely to play a significant role anywhere this season.

  • Twins' Mike Olt: Signs with Twins

Olt signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Sunday, according to his personal Instagram account. Olt spent the majority of the 2018 campaign with Triple-A Pawtucket, hitting .224/.357/.430 with 11 homers in 71 games. The 30-year-old hasn't appeared in the majors since 2015 and owns a career .580 OPS across parts of three major-league seasons, so he's nothing more than organizational depth.

Olt agreed to a minor-league deal with the Red Sox, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports. After spending all of 2017 with the Red Sox's Double-A affiliate, he returns to Boston's farm for another season. The 29-year-old hit .245/.332/.436 with 16 home runs in 448 plate appearances last season at Double-A and will simply provide organizational depth this season.

  • Red Sox's Mike Olt: Makes spring debut Saturday

Olt made his first appearance in Grapefruit League action Saturday, entering as a pinch-runner and playing first base. The Red Sox left no stone unturned when looking for insurance at third base in case Pablo Sandoval was not capable of returning to form. Olt joined a chorus of infielders that have experience at the hot corner. As it turns out, Sandoval has performed well and the talk of a potential platoon partner has been silenced. Olt, whose once-bright career stalled following a beaning during the 2012 offseason, has bounced from the Cubs to the White Sox to the Padres since 2014. He's expected to start 2017 in the minors, but without a sure thing backing up Sandoval at third base, the Red Sox could call on Olt at some point.

  • Red Sox's Mike Olt: Agrees to minor league deal with Red Sox

Olt signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox on Tuesday, according to a post on Olt's Instagram account. The Red Sox, who already grabbed Josh Rutledge in the Rule 5 draft, continue to bring in potential replacement options in the event Pablo Sandoval is not capable of handling full-time duty at third base. Olt has a career .168/.250/.330 slash line with a 37 percent strikeout rate in 400 big league plate appearances. He is a long shot to contribute in the majors this year.

  • Mike Olt: Released Tuesday

Olt was released by the White Sox on Tuesday. Olt was designated for assignment earlier in the month to make room for Austin Jackson on the 40-man roster. It is possible the White Sox will consider re-signing the 27-year-old corner infielder, as Adam LaRoche announced just a few hours after the transaction that he will likely sit out the 2016 season for personal reasons.

  • White Sox's Mike Olt: Outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday

Olt cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. Olt was designated for assignment Sunday to make room for the recently-acquired Austin Jackson, so this move just finishes the process as he accepts the move to Triple-A rather than becoming a free agent. Now that he's in the minors, he'll slot in as the third baseman for the Triple-A club, acting as organizational depth at the hot corner.

  • White Sox's Mike Olt: Designated for assignment Sunday

The White Sox designated Olt for assignment Sunday to clear room on the 40-man roster for the newly-signed Austin Jackson, WGN TV reports. The White Sox's third base depth improved significantly in the offseason with the signing of Todd Frazier, so Olt was a longshot to make the 25-man roster. Olt has slugged a not-so-hot .330 in his 400 career major league plate appearances and the power numbers he flashed in 2012 have become a distant memory.

  • White Sox 3B Mike Olt considered day to day with shoulder issue

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said third baseman Mike Olt felt his shoulder 'go a bit numb' during Wednesday's game, the Chicago Tribune reports. He should be considered day to day moving forward, with Tyler Saladino and Gordon Beckham the likely candidates to replace him at third base.

  • White Sox continue to give Mike Olt the bulk of starts at 3B

White Sox third baseman Mike Olt went 1 for 4 with a two-run homer -- his first of the year -- in Wednesday's win over the A's. The White Sox said Olt would receive the lion's share of playing time at third base in the season's final weeks, and they have remained true to their word. Olt has started every game but one since he joined the roster earlier in the month, but Wednesday's long ball was his first since joining the organization. He should continue to be the favorite to start as the season winds down.
