Harvey announced his retirement from professional baseball Friday.
Harvey last pitched in the majors in 2021, spending 2022 in the Orioles' minor-league system. His career began with a bang in New York with the Mets before it was sidetracked by injuries and poor performance. Harvey finishes his major-league career with a 50-66 record and 4.42 ERA over parts of nine seasons. He made one All-Star team.
Harvey elected free agency Thursday, per Triple-A Norfolk's transaction log.
Harvey spent the entire season in the minor leagues and the majority of that time with Norfolk. He maintained a 4.31 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 54.1 innings and will likely have to settle for a minor-league deal in 2023.

Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that Harvey has been suspended for 60 games without pay for participating in the distribution of a prohibited Drug of Abuse in violation of MLB's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
The suspension is retroactive to April 29, which was when the Orioles played their 20th game of the season. As a result, Harvey will effectively be serving an 80-game suspension, with the 33-year-old now ineligible to appear in the majors until at least early July. Harvey wasn't suspended for a positive drug test, but rather, for his admission during his testimony in the recent trial related to the 2019 death of former Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs that he violated MLB's drug policy, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Harvey, who joined the Orioles on a minor-league deal in April, had yet to pitch for any of Baltimore's minor-league affiliates this season while building up at extended spring training.

The veteran right-hander is now presumably healthy, but he'll likely need to build up his workload in the minors after remaining unsigned throughout spring training. Even then Harvey isn't guaranteed to make his way to the majors.

Manager Brandon Hyde said Thursday that Harvey will undergo further testing on his injured knee before the team determines if he'll be able to return this season, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Harvey was moved to the 10-day injured list earlier Thursday with right knee inflammation. Hyde said that the right-hander is "definitely going to be out a while," and given that there are just over three weeks remaining in the season, it's certainly possible that Harvey has thrown his last pitch of 2021. The veteran started Wednesday giving up four runs (three earned) over 4.1 innings, and he was pulled at 74 pitches.
