Carpenter went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and a steal in Wednesday's 10-3 win over the Mariners. Carpenter opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning before adding a second base hit in the third. It's just the second multi-hit game for Carpenter since the start of May, while the stolen base was his first since the 2021 season. Carpenter started the day in a 4-for-36 (.111) slump over his last 11 contests, though he's still seen regular playing time against right-handed pitching. He's slashing .192/.303/.362 with four homers, 26 RBI and 14 runs scored through 156 plate appearances this year.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Matt Carpenter: Not in lineup Tuesday
Carpenter is absent from the Padres' lineup Tuesday versus the Mariners. Gary Sanchez will take a turn at designated hitter and Austin Nola will start behind the plate against the Mariners and right-hander Logan Gilbert. Carpenter is 2-for-11 so far in June.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Sitting out Wednesday
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Carpenter broke out of a five-game hitless skid in Tuesday's 9-4 win with a pair of doubles and three RBI, but he'll hit the bench Wednesday with left-hander Braxton Garrett on the mound for Miami. Nelson Cruz will handle designated-hitter duties and hit seventh in place of Carpenter.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Doubles twice, drives in three
Carpenter went 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI in Tuesday's 9-4 victory over the Marlins. Carpenter got San Diego on the board with an RBI double off Sandy Alcantara in the fourth inning, tying the game 1-1. He'd drive in another two runs with his second double in the ninth inning, extending the Padres' lead to 8-4. It's a step in the right direction for Carpenter, who'd been stuck in an 0-for-19 slump coming into Tuesday's contest. He's still slashing just .184/.307/.368 with four home runs and 24 RBI through 137 plate appearances while platooning with Nelson Cruz at DH.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Not in Saturday's lineup
Carpenter will sit Saturday against the Yankees, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Carpenter and Nelson Cruz have been in something close to a strict platoon at designated hitter this season, with Carpenter starting against righties. Right-hander Luis Severino starts for the Yankees on Saturday, but it will be Cruz getting the start nonetheless. Carpenter has looked like he could use a break, as he's gone 0-for-16 with eight strikeouts across his last four games.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: On bench against lefty
Carpenter is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Nationals. Carpenter enjoyed a big day in the Padres' series finale against the Red Sox on Sunday, but he'll start out on the bench for Tuesday's opener against Washington with left-hander MacKenzie Gore set to take the mound. Nelson Cruz is serving as the DH and Brandon Dixon will play first base.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Goes deep in win
Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a homer, three RBI, two runs scored and a walk in Sunday's win against the Red Sox. Carpenter drew a bases-loaded walk and later scored in the first inning. He then extended San Diego's lead with a two-run shot in the third. Carpenter had been stuck in an 8-for-45 (.178) skid over his previous 16 games since his last home run April 23. He's now slashing .211/.342/.422 through 111 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Sitting out against lefty

Padres' Matt Carpenter: On bench again Sunday
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Carpenter finds himself on the bench for the third time in four games, with two of his absences coming against right-handed starting pitchers, including Sunday's opponent Tony Gonsolin. Though he's occupied the strong side of a platoon at designated hitter for much of the season, Carpenter's hold on that role may be slipping while he's hitting just .111/.200/.111 so far in May. Nelson Cruz will get the nod at DH on Sunday and could eventually usurp Carpenter as the Friars' preferred option against both right- and left-handed pitching.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Heads to bench Saturday
Carpenter is not in Saturday's lineup against the Dodgers. With lefty Julio Urias starting for the Dodgers, Nelson Cruz is starting at designated hitter and batting fifth. Carpenter hasn't started against a lefty since April 25.... See More ... See Less -

Carpenter is not in the Padres' lineup Thursday in Minnesota. The Twins are starting right-hander Bailey Ober, but Carpenter will take a seat as Manny Machado serves as the designated hitter and Ha-Seong Kim plays third base. Rougned Odor will get a shot at the keystone.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Sits versus southpaw
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Carpenter will sit for the second time in San Diego's past three games with lefty Julio Urias pitching for Los Angeles. Nelson Cruz will bat fifth as the designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -

Padres' Matt Carpenter: In DH spot
Carpenter is starting at designated hitter and batting fifth for the Padres in Monday's game against the Reds, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Carpenter has been swinging a hot bat, going 8-for-17 with two home runs and 10 RBI over his last seven contests. It's been a pretty strict platoon between Carpenter and Nelson Cruz at DH for the Padres, with Carpenter also seeing the occasional start at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Plates two runs Sunday
Carpenter went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Giants in Mexico City. After sitting against lefty Sean Manaea on Saturday in the first contest of the two-game set in Mexico City, Carpenter drew back into the starting nine Sunday while Ha-Seong Kim received the day off. Carpenter proceeded to help the Padres complete their comeback from an early 4-0 deficit, with his two-run double in the bottom of the eighth breaking a tie and effectively serving as the game-winning hit. He concluded April with a seven extra-base hits (two home runs, five doubles) and 10 RBI in his final seven games of the month.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Sleeper hitters for Week 6 (May 1-7)
Digging deep with this one. Matt Carpenter has been racking up extra-base hits lately and could do some damage against pitchers like Luke Weaver, Luis Cessa and Noah Syndergaard. With only one lefty on the schedule, he figures to get plenty of at-bats.... See More ... See Less -

Carpenter has logged only nine plate appearances against lefties this season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Heads to bench against southpaw
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. With a left-hander (Drew Smyly) on the mound, the lefty-hitting Carpenter will give way to his platoon mate at designated hitter, Nelson Cruz. Carpenter started each of the previous three games and accrued a home run, four doubles and six RBI over that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Matt Carpenter: Drives in five runs
Carpenter went 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles and five RBI in Sunday's win over Arizona. Carpenter was all over the box score Sunday, providing five of San Diego's seven runs. He knocked a two-run double in the first inning, a solo homer in the fifth and another RBI double in the seventh. The veteran slugger also brought home a run with a sacrifice fly. It was his first multi-hit game since April 1, and he improved his slash line to .238/.377/.548 with 13 RBI.... See More ... See Less -

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell23H agoFinal: Padres 10, Mariners 3 The Padres put up another big number in a win, a day after they scored precisely one run in a loss. They've rotated those two outcomes for nine straight days. I can promise, at least, that they won't score one run tomorrow.
