  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Out Saturday vs. Angels

Segura is out of the starting lineup against the Angels on Saturday. Segura has not had much success in the month of May with a slash line of .190/.301/.238, and he'll get a breather against Shohei Ohtani and the Angels in the middle game of the series. Jon Berti will man the hot corner and hit seventh against Ohtani and the Los Angeles pitching staff.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Sitting out Wednesday

Segura is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Colorado, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. After putting together a modest five-game hitting streak, Segura has gone hitless over his last three contests. Jon Berti will replace Segura at third base and serve as the Marlins' leadoff hitter.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Out of lineup

Segura will sit Saturday against San Francisco, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Segura owns an awful .509 OPS on the season, but he's started to show signs of life over the past week, grabbing seven hits across a five-game stretch before going hitless Friday. He'll get a rest Saturday, with Jon Berti starting at third base.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Swipes third bag

Segura went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Nationals. Hitting leadoff for the first time this season despite a weak .276 OBP, the veteran infielder drove in Xavier Edwards with a single in the third inning before stealing his third bag of the year. Segura's reached base safely in six straight games, which might help explain his elevation to the top of the order, but he's still batting only .233 (10-for-43) in May with zero homers, one stolen base, two RBI and three runs in 13 contests.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Sits in second straight

Segura remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Segura will take a seat for the second day in a row as the Marlins look to give the veteran a mental reset in what's been a brutal start to the season. Entering Wednesday, Segura is slashing an abysmal .186/.233/.212 in 121 plate appearances, with his .445 OPS a career-worst mark by 170 points. Jon Berti will pick up the start at third base, and he could soon displace Segura as an everyday option at the position if the latter can't get going sometime soon.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Out of lineup amid slump

Segura is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Segura went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts before getting ejected from Monday's series opener versus Arizona. He's batting just .186/.233/.212 through 33 games (121 plate appearances) this season with Miami. Jon Berti will handle third base and bat ninth Tuesday.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Ejected as slump deepens

Segura went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts before being ejected from Monday's loss to the Diamondbacks. The veteran infielder didn't like the called third strike on his final at-bat of the night and slammed his helmet down in frustration, resulting in the ejection. Segura is slashing .160/.222/.200 over his last 15 games, and per Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, he could get some time off soon to clear his head and work on his swing. "He wants to play and try to get out of it," manager Skip Schumaker said Monday. "Sometimes, guys need a couple days of work, sometimes guys want to keep playing and get through it. There's obviously been conversation on both sides of it. We talk to each player every day about how they feel."

Segura is out of the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Guardians. Jon Berti will get the start at third base while Segura rests for the second game of the twin bill. Segura went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the Marlins' 6-1 win in Game 1.

Segura is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Giants, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Segura will get a breather after he's been dealing with pectoral discomfort this week, going 1-for-5 with a run scored over the first two games of the series. Jon Berti will start at third base while Garrett Hampson enters the lineup at shortstop and bats ninth in the series finale against San Francisco.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Added back to lineup Tuesday

Segura was unscratched from the lineup Tuesday against the Giants, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Segura will start at third base and bat ninth versus the Giants and left-hander Alex Wood after being removed from the lineup for a short period due to what was labeled as pectoral discomfort. It's clearly nothing serious. Garrett Hampson is again on the bench for Miami.

Segura was scratched from the lineup Tuesday due to pectoral discomfort, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. • Marlins' Jean Segura: Swipes first bag of 2023

Segura went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Twins. The veteran infielder lined a two-out single up the middle in the second inning, then promptly swiped his first bag of the season. Segura stole 13 bases in 19 attempts last season, and the 33-year-old could be a player who benefits from MLB's rule changes to boost the running game; however, first he'll need to start getting on base more frequently -- he's just 2-for-18 (.111) at the plate through the first five games of the year.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Gets Sunday off

Segura is out of the lineup for Sunday's contest against the Mets, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The 33-year-old veteran infielder has picked up one hit in his 12 plate appearances over his first three games as a member of the Marlins.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Two hits in return from WBC

Segura went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Friday's split-squad game against the Cardinals. The Marlins have gotten a number of players back from the WBC in the last couple days, including Segura, and the veteran infielder quickly showed he hadn't lost any ground in his preparations during his time away from camp. Segura got the start at third base and hit leadoff, a spot in the batting order he might occupy when games begin to count as his on-base skills were a big reason why Miami signed him. The 33-year-old hasn't posted an OBP below .336 over a full season since 2015.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Set to play third base

Manager Skip Schumaker said Thursday the Marlins plan to play Segura at third base after the team signed him to a two-year, $17 million contract, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports. It's not a surprise the 32-year-old won't be at the keystone since Miami already has Jazz Chisholm, and Segura will end up at the hot corner rather than shortstop. Segura has played in just 24 games at third base during his 11-year career, all of which came in 2020 with the Phillies. The veteran infielder had a .277/.336/.387 slash line with 10 home runs and 13 stolen bases in 98 contests last season.

  • Marlins' Jean Segura: Joining Marlins

Segura signed a two-year, $17 million contract with the Marlins on Wednesday, Hector Gomez of Z101Digital.com reports. Segura slashed .277/.336/.387 over 387 plate appearances in 2022 for Philadelphia, though most of his value lies with his glove. Segura has almost exclusively played second base the past two years; however, the presence of Jazz Chisholm will likely lead to Segura shifting over to shortstop or third base.

  • Jean Segura: Heads to free agency

The Phillies have declined Segura's $17 million team option for 2023, making him a free agent. Segura played a key role in Philadelphia's postseason run, especially with his glove, but the Phillies have elected to move in a different direction in 2023. The veteran slashed .277/.336/.387 with 10 homers, 33 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 45 runs scored over 98 games in 2022.

  • Phillies' Jean Segura: Smacks two hits in Game 5

Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI during Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Astros in Game 5 of the World Series. Segura recorded his first multi-hit performance of the World Series, and his RBI single in the eighth inning brought the Phillies to within one with the tying run on third. The 32-year-old is playing in his 11th season but only his first postseason. Even with his performance Thursday night, he is hitting just .226 across 53 at bats while knocking in seven runs. Segura will look to provide another spark at the bottom of the Phillies lineup in Game 6 against projected starter Framber Valdez -- he was 1-for-2 against Valdez in the Game 2 loss.
