Fried (1-0) picked up the win in Friday's 8-1 rout of the Marlins, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over 6.1 innings while striking out four. The southpaw rebounded nicely from a rough couple of outings to begin the season, taking a shutout into the seventh inning and tossing 49 of 84 pitches for strikes. Fried's overall numbers remain alarming, but he's more than capable of bringing down his 8.74 ERA and 1.85 WHIP quickly. He lines up for a tough test in his next start, which is scheduled for next week on the road in Houston.... See More ... See Less

Braves' Max Fried: Rocked in no-decision
Fried was charged with eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and one walk over 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Saturday. He struck out five. Fried didn't make it out of the first inning in his first start of the season against the Phillies and he barely made it out of the first frame in this one, getting bludgeoned for six runs on seven hits and a walk. He deserves some credit for mostly settling in after that, and Atlanta's offense eventually got him off the hook by scoring nine runs over their final five innings. Fried will surely right the ship and be fine, but it's undoubtedly been a frustrating start to the season for him and for his fantasy managers.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Gets early hook Saturday
Fried recorded only two outs Saturday against the Phillies before being lifted, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one. He came away with a no-decision. The southpaw had a disastrous start to his 2024, throwing 23 of 43 pitches for strikes before getting the hook, but he avoided a loss after Atlanta hung seven runs on Aaron Nola in an eventual 12-4 win. Fried struggled with injuries last year but was effective when he was on the mound, posting a 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 25.7 percent strikeout rate over 77.2 innings, so while this performance was a little shocking, it did come against a tough opponent. He'll try to shake it off in his next start, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Diamondbacks.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Fades late in Monday's start
Fried gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk over six inning in Monday's Grapefruit League start against the Rays. He struck out four. The lefty blanked Tampa Bay for five innings before running into trouble in the sixth with a minor-league defense behind him, getting tagged for three straight singles to begin the frame. Fried's spring numbers don't stand out, but he built up to nearly 90 pitches Monday and looks ready for the regular season to begin. Atlanta's No. 2 starter made only 14 trips to the mound in 2023 due to a variety of injuries, but he posted a 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 80:18 K:BB through 77.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Settles with Atlanta at $15 million
Atlanta and Fried avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $15 million contract Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The was Fried's final year of arbitration eligibility, as he's currently slated for free agency next offseason. He was limited to 14 starts in 2023 because of injury but was terrific when healthy, holding a 2.55 ERA and 80:18 K:BB over 77.2 innings of work. Fried will enter spring training with no restrictions.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Will return for Game 2
Fried (finger) will start Monday against the Phillies in Game 2 of the NLDS. Fried finished the regular season on the injured list due to a blister on his left index finger, but the issue seems to have subsided as Atlanta prepares to begin its postseason run. Fried most recently faced the Phillies on Sept. 12, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six batters through five innings.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Remains on track for NLDS Game 2
Fried (finger) remains on track to start Game 2 of the NLDS on Monday after throwing five innings in a simulated game Tuesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Fried wore a protective bandage across the blister on his left index finger, which he won't be able to wear in an actual game, but he avoided any setbacks in the 76-pitch outing against his Atlanta teammates and should get the call in NLDS Game 2 next week after Spencer Strider handles Game 1. When healthy this season, Fried delivered a sharp 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 80:18 K:BB in 77.2 innings (14 starts) for the National League East champions.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Lining up for Game 2
Fried (finger) is scheduled to pitch in a moderated game Tuesday, which lines him up to start Game 2 of the NLDS on Oct. 9, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Fried landed on the 15-day injured list Sept. 22 with a blister on his index finger, but the team was always hoping to get him back for the postseason. The left-hander should be good to go assuming he has no issues when throwing Tuesday, which would be huge for Atlanta since Charlie Morton (finger) also went down with an injury shortly after Fried.... Braves' Max Fried: Placed on IL with blister issue
Fried was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a blister on his left index finger. The lefty developed the blister during Thursday's win over the Nationals. While Atlanta is expected to get the left-hander back for the postseason, Fried will not make another regular-season start. He finishes with an 8-1 record, 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 80:18 K:BB over 77.2 innings covering 14 starts.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Shuts down Nationals
Fried (8-1) earned the win Thursday over the Nationals, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out seven. Fried hasn't missed a beat since returning from an elbow injury Aug. 4. The seven-year veteran has made nine starts during that span, producing a 2.78 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 55:12 K:BB over 51.2 innings. Fried is scheduled to make his next start at home against the Cubs.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Scheduled to start Thursday
Fried (finger) is scheduled to start Thursday's game in Washington, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Fried received the green light to return to Atlanta's rotation after throwing a bullpen session Monday without any protective tape covering the small blister on his left hand. The 29-year-old southpaw hasn't appeared in a game since early last week, but it never seemed to be a serious concern for the NL East champions.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Throws bullpen session
Fried threw a bullpen session Monday without any protective tape covering the blister on his left index finger, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Fried was skipped on his last turn through rotation because of the blister, but he is expected to return to action at some point during Atlanta's upcoming four-game series in Washington, which begins Thursday. It seems like the NL East champions are simply playing things cautiously with the 29-year-old southpaw, who boasts a 2.64 ERA and 73:13 K:BB in 71.2 innings (13 starts) this season.... See More ... Braves' Max Fried: May return for next series
Fried isn't expected to make his next turn through the Atlanta rotation until the team's four-game series in Washington over the weekend after he developed a hot spot on one of his fingers in his most recent start this past Tuesday in Philadelphia, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Atlanta isn't overly concerned about the issue, and with the National League East division crown already secured, the team can afford to proceed cautiously with one of its top starters. Even if Fried is cleared to pitch later this week as anticipated, he could still have his workload managed to some degree as Atlanta looks to ensure that he's not too overworked heading into what the team anticipates will be a long postseason run.... Braves' Max Fried: Spins gem in LA
Fried (6-1) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out 10 over seven scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Dodgers. Fried enjoyed his longest outing of the season, which also allowed him to rack up a season high in strikeouts. He's turned in four quality starts over six appearances since returning from a forearm injury in early August. For the season, the southpaw has a 2.52 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 63:13 K:BB through 60.2 innings over 11 starts this season. Fried is projected for a home start versus the Cardinals next week.... Braves' Max Fried: Fans eight in fifth win
Fried (5-1) picked up the win in Saturday's 7-3 victory over the Giants, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out eight. A two-run shot off the bat of Wilmer Flores in the second inning accounted for most of the damage off Fried, who has delivered three quality starts in five outings since coming off the IL at the beginning of the month. The southpaw has a 3.58 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 28:5 K:BB through 27.2 innings in August, numbers below his usual standards, and he faces a potentially tough test in his next start, which is likely to come on the road next week against the NL West-leading Dodgers.... Braves' Max Fried: Allows three runs in no-decision
Fried did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on nine hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against the Giants. He struck out six. Fried's final line could've looked a lot worse Sunday -- he held the Giants to three runs on a pair of home runs despite allowing a season-high nine hits. The 29-year-old left-hander's surrendered 17 hits in his last two starts (11.1 innings), though he's allowed just five runs in that span. Overall, Fried is 4-1 with a 2.83 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 45:9 K:BB across nine starts (47.2 innings) this season. He's currently in line for a rematch with the Giants on the road in his next outing.... Braves' Max Fried: Notches fourth win
Fried (4-1) earned the win Monday, allowing two runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings in an 11-3 victory over the Yankees. He struck out two. After allowing a run in each of the first and second innings, Fried settled down to hold the Yankees scoreless over his final four frames to grab the win. It was a solid bounce-back from Fried after he surrendered four runs in just four innings in his last outing against Pittsburgh. The left-hander is now 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in six starts (16 innings) since returning from a two-month IL stint. Overall, his ERA sits at 2.57 with a 1.12 WHIP and 39:8 K:BB across eight starts (42 innings) this season. Fried's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Giants in his next outing.... Braves' Max Fried: Early exit in no-decision
Fried came away with a no-decision Wednesday in Atlanta's 6-5 win over the Pirates, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out four. The southpaw cruised through the first three innings before falling apart in the fourth, but Atlanta's offense had already built a 4-0 lead and Fried was never in line for a loss. He exited after 79 pitches (50 strikes), and the team hasn't yet extended him to 80 or more pitches since his return from a forearm issue that cost him three months of action. Atlanta's massive lead in the NL East affords the team the luxury of bringing Fried along slowly, but he could get stretched out a little more in his next start, likely to come at home early next week against the Yankees.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Dominant in return
Fried (3-1) earned the win Friday, allowing three hits over six scoreless innings against the Cubs. He struck out eight without issuing a walk. Making his first start in the majors since May 5, Fried showed no ill effects from the forearm injury that cost him three months. In fact, he appeared close to peak form, as the lefty got 16 called strikes and nine swinging strikes on 72 pitches. Expect him to add to his workload over his next couple starts, with the team looking to build Fried up gradually after the long layoff. He lines up for a road start in Pittsburgh next week.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Max Fried: Activated ahead of Friday's start
Fried (forearm) was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday ahead of his start against the Cubs. Fried has been on the shelf since May 9 with a left forearm strain. He built up to 79 pitches in his most recent rehab outing, so Fried should be able to go deep enough to qualify for the win in this one if he is pitching well. The 6-foot-4 lefty gave up five earned runs and struck out 13 over 12 innings across four rehab appearances in July.... See More ... See Less
