Snell allowed four hits and two walks while striking out seven over six scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Monday. Snell was again sharp, firing his fifth scoreless outing of six or more innings in his last six starts. He ended up with a second straight no-decision after the Giants got to Robert Suarez in the eighth inning. Snell lowered his ERA to 2.25 with a 1.19 WHIP and 234:99 K:BB through 180 innings over 32 starts this season. He's tentatively lined up for a road start versus the White Sox this weekend, but the Padres may not push their ace for one more outing since their playoff hopes are hanging by a thread after Monday's loss.... Padres' Blake Snell: Fires seven hitless frames
Snell did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing four walks over seven scoreless innings against Colorado. He struck out 10. The Padres got another incredible outing from Snell on Tuesday, as he fanned 10 Rockies across seven innings without allowing a single hit. However, the Padres failed to put up any runs until the ninth inning, eradicating Snell's hopes for a fifth consecutive win. Over his last five appearances (32 innings), Snell owns a 0.56 ERA and a 43:17 K:BB. He'll look to continue his hot streak during his next start, which is projected to come against the Giants at Oracle Park early next week.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Stellar versus Dodgers
Snell (14-9) earned the win Wednesday over the Dodgers, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out eight over six scoreless innings. Snell picked up his seventh straight quality start, and he's kept runs off the board in three of his last four outings. This sharp start lowered his ERA to 2.43 with a 1.22 WHIP and 217:93 K:BB through 167 innings over 30 starts this season. It was also the first time since June 22 that Snell didn't walk multiple batters. The southpaw is projected for a home start versus the Rockies next week.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Strikes out eight in win
Snell (13-9) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight over six innings to earn the win over the Astros on Friday. Snell gave up runs for the first time in three outings, but he still delivered his sixth consecutive quality start. Over his last three starts, he's posted a 25:12 K:BB across 19 innings. Despite a walk rate that's been among the highest in the majors all year, Snell continues to put together solid outings and has a 2.52 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 209:92 K:BB through 161 innings over 29 starts. The southpaw is projected for a challenging road start versus the Dodgers next week.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Throws six scoreless innings
Snell (12-9) allowed three hits and four walks while striking out eight over six scoreless innings to earn the win over the Giants on Saturday. Snell has walked multiple batters in 13 straight starts, but he hasn't given up more than three runs in any of them. In eight of those starts, he's walked four or more batters. The southpaw's 5.2 BB/9 is tied for the worst of his career with that of his rookie season, but he's still managed to generate a major-league-best 2.50 ERA. He's also at 201 strikeouts through 155 innings, which makes this Snell's second 200-strikeout campaign. He's projected to make his next start in Houston.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Fans nine in win
Snell (11-9) allowed two hits and five walks over seven shutout frames Monday, striking out nine and picking up a win over the Cardinals. Snell's command was shaky again with five free passes and two wild pitches, yet he continues to dominate. It was his first scoreless appearance since July 30 and he lowered his ERA to 2.60 through 149 innings. Over his last 18 outings, Snell has posted a terrific 1.38 ERA with a 145:58 K:BB. The NL Cy Young candidate is currently expected to face the Giants at home this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: No run support in loss
Snell (10-9) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Marlins. The Padres mustered just three hits and two walks for the game, giving Snell virtually no run support. He was able to come away with his third straight quality start, but he's started to come back to earth with 10 runs allowed over his last 23 innings. For the season, the southpaw has a 2.73 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 184:80 K:BB through 142 innings over 26 starts. Snell is projected for a favorable road start in St. Louis early next week.... See More ... Padres' Blake Snell: Secures 10th win
Snell improved to 10-8 after allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Orioles. Snell has now given up two or fewer runs in all but one of his last 16 outings. The southpaw was able to limit the damage to a sacrifice fly in the first inning and a Ryan Mountcastle solo home run in the sixth. Snell is now at a 2.65 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 176:78 K:BB through 136 innings over 25 starts this season. He's projected for a home start versus the Marlins next week.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Fans seven in win
Snell (9-8) yielded two runs on two hits and four walks over six innings Friday, striking out seven and earning a win against Arizona. After giving up a run in the first inning, Snell held the Diamondbacks off the board until serving up a solo homer to Ketel Marte in the sixth. Snell's dominant stretch continued as he allowed fewer than three runs for the 14th time in his last 15 starts. He's registered a 1.16 ERA during that stretch, giving him a 2.63 ERA alongside a 171:76 K:BB through 24 outings. The only downside is that he's walked at least three batters in eight consecutive starts. Snell is expected to face the Orioles at home next week.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Strikes out eight in no-decision
Snell allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out eight over five innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Saturday. Snell's impressive run of 13 starts without allowing more than two runs came to a close, though it happened against a tough division rival. The southpaw was in line for the loss until the Padres rallied ahead in the eighth inning. Snell's 1.30 WHIP and 164:72 K:BB aren't the most encouraging marks, but he's allowed just 12 homers in 23 starts this season to offset an ugly 5.2 BB/9. That's helped him maintain a 2.61 ERA through 124 innings on the year. Snell is lined up for another challenging start on the road in Arizona during next weekend's series.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Punches out nine
Snell (8-8) allowed one unearned run on four hits and four walks over five innings Sunday, striking out nine and earning a win against Texas. Snell has been outstanding for the last two months despite his inflating walk rate. He registered a 42:26 K:BB through 32 July innings but gave up just two earned runs. He's given up two or fewer runs in 13 straight starts, resulting in a terrific 0.73 ERA with a 108:41 K:BB through 74 frames over that span. Snell's next outing is projected to be at home against the Dodgers.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Walks five in win
Snell (7-8) earned the win Tuesday versus the Pirates after he gave up one run on two hits and five walks over six innings. He struck out four. Snell's command was a bit scattershot, as he threw just 54 of 102 pitches for a strike and issued three-plus walks for the fifth straight outing, but he still limited Pittsburgh to a single run. The left-hander has walked 22 batters across 27 frames during that five-start stretch, but he's somehow managed to give up just a pair of runs. It remains to be seen how long Snell can continue to walk the tightrope like that, and a likely matchup with the Rangers this weekend will be a tougher test.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Hit with tough loss
Snell (6-8) took the loss Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and seven walks over five innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out four. Snell managed to limit the Blue Jays to one run over five frames despite issuing a season-high seven walks. However, the Padres' offense was unable to back him with any run support, and the lefty went on to suffer his eighth loss of the season. Snell has allowed only one run over four July starts, lowering his season ERA to 2.67 in the process.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Strong start wasted
Snell didn't factor into the decision in a 6-4 loss to the Phillies during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, allowing three hits and three walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out seven. The southpaw extended his scoreless streak to 21 innings with another dazzling performance and exited the game with the Padres ahead 3-0, but the bullpen quickly squandered the lead. Snell hasn't been scored upon since the first inning of a June 28 outing against the Pirates and hasn't given up more than two runs in a start since May 25, posting a stunning 0.62 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 91:25 K:BB in 58 innings over that latter stretch while going 5-1. Not much has gone right for San Diego this season -- the team sits five games below .500 after getting swept in Saturday's twin bill -- but Snell re-discovering his Cy Young form has been one of the bright spots.... Padres' Blake Snell: Throws six scoreless innings
Snell (6-7) allowed a hit and three walks while striking out 11 over six scoreless innings to earn the win Saturday over the Mets. Snell had a pedestrian start to the season, then surged to end the first half. Over his last nine starts, he gave up just four runs with an 84:22 K:BB over 53 innings. He's walked multiple batters in seven of those outings, and his 1.22 WHIP is unlikely to be able to sustain a 2.85 ERA over the rest of the campaign, but he's been in peak form otherwise. His first start after the All-Star break is likely to be against the Phillies.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Works around wildness
Snell (5-7) allowed seven hits and four walks while striking out seven over five scoreless innings to earn the win Monday over the Angels. Snell threw just 55 of 100 pitches for strikes in a wild start, but the Padres' offense gave him plenty of run support early on. His streak of four straight starts with double-digit strikeouts came to an end, but he's gone eight outings in a row without allowing more than two runs. Snell has a 3.03 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 121:46 K:BB through 92 innings across 17 starts. The 30-year-old is projected for a home start versus the Mets this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Ten strikeouts in loss
Snell (4-7) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings in a 7-1 loss against the Pirates. He struck out 10. Snell struck out at least 10 batters for a fourth consecutive outing and has given up two or fewer runs in seven straight appearances. During that stretch, he's posted a 0.86 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 66:15 K:BB across 42 innings. Despite taking the loss Wednesday, Snell is still in the midst of a stellar stretch and will look to maintain his strong play during his next start, which is tentatively scheduled during a three-game homestand versus the Angels.... Padres' Blake Snell: Continues dominance in win
Snell (4-6) earned the win Thursday, allowing three hits over six scoreless innings against the Giants. He struck out 11 without walking a batter. Snell's red-hot June continued as the lefty pitched six innings of shutout ball for the second straight start and third time in four starts this month. The only real trouble he faced on the afternoon came in the fifth inning, when he allowed back-to-back singles with two outs. However, he got himself out of the jam by striking out Bryce Johnson and then proceeded to strike out the side in the sixth to finish with double-digit strikeouts for the third consecutive game. Snell holds a ridiculous 0.50 ERA over his last six starts to go along with a 56:13 K:BB in 36 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Excellent against former team
Snell (3-6) allowed two hits and three walks while striking out 12 over six shutout innings to earn the win Saturday over the Rays. Snell's excellent stretch continued for a fifth straight start, and this one came against his old team. Over his last 30 innings, the southpaw has allowed just two runs while posting a 45:13 K:BB. He's had 12 strikeouts in each of his last two starts, and he's enjoying some of his best pitching in years. Saturday's gem lowered his ERA to 3.48 with a 1.29 WHIP and 93:40 K:BB through 75 innings over 14 starts. Snell's next outing is projected to be on the road in San Francisco next week.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Blake Snell: Cleared for next start
Snell (ankle) is listed as the Padres' probable starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Rays. Snell contended with swelling in his left ankle after being struck by a comebacker during his most recent start Sunday in Colorado, but neither the injury nor pitching at Coors Field prevented him from delivering his best outing of the season. The veteran southpaw set season highs in both innings pitched (seven) and strikeouts (12) while allowing one run on just three hits and one walk. After a middling start to the season, Snell has been rolling over his last four turns through the rotation, pitching to a 0.75 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 33:10 K:BB in 24 innings over that stretch. With the swollen ankle apparently not proving to be too bothersome during his between-starts bullpen session, Snell looks like he'll face no restrictions Saturday while facing off against his former team for the first time....
