Gallo started at first base and went 1-for-3 with a double in Monday's spring training win over the Yankees. He's hitting .316 (6-for-19) with a home run this spring.
Gallo could get playing time at first base this year, especially early in the season with Alex Kirilloff (wrist) questionable for the start of the season. He'll likely get most of his playing time in left field as he looks to rebound from a disappointing season. He hit just .160/.280/.357 with 19 home runs last season with a 39.8 percent strikeout rate across 126 games for the Yankees and Dodgers.
Gallo signed a one-year, $11 million contract with the Twins on Friday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Gallo's 2022 was a disaster, as he put up a .160/.280/.357 slash line with 19 home runs and a nearly 40 percent strikeout rate across 126 games for the Yankees and Dodgers. He was one of the most prolific home run hitters in the game for the five seasons prior to that, however, and also offers good defense in the outfield. The Twins are taking a modest gamble on a bounce-back and no doubt are hoping Gallo will be aided by the new rules banning defensive shifts.
Gallo went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two total runs and two total RBI in Monday's 5-2 victory versus the Diamondbacks.
Gallo got the Dodgers off to a good start with a 437-foot solo moonshot to right field in the second inning, and he added a run-scoring single in the fourth. It was the first multi-hit performance for the slugger since Aug. 21. Gallo is slashing a paltry .190/.261/.452 in September, but he's hit three homers and driven in 11 runs over 14 games.

Gallo will hit the bench after he picked up starts in the corner outfield in seven of the past eight games. Over the last five of those starts, Gallo went a collective 0-for-14 with seven strikeouts, potentially stalling any momentum he might have had for unseating Chris Taylor in an everyday role in the outfield.

Gallo will pick up his fourth start in five games, but he's mostly benefited from Gavin Lux (neck) missing the previous four contests before re-entering the lineup Sunday. Chris Taylor, who had been the primary replacement at second base for Lux, is expected to take over as the Dodgers' main left fielder moving forward, but he'll get a breather for the day game after a night game. Since joining the Dodgers in an Aug. 2 deal with the Yankees, Gallo has produced a .237/.370/.579 slash line with six extra-base hits and seven RBI in 15 games.
