Before that happens, Goody will likely need to parlay a strong showing on Long Island into a minor-league deal with an organization. The 29-year-old will rejoin the organization that drafted him in the sixth round in 2012. The 29-year-old was unavailable over the weekend with what the team called lower-back tightness, and the injury has now been reclassified as back spasms. It's unclear how long Goody is expected to be sidelined.
Goody wasn't available out of the bullpen during the Rangers' weekend series with the Angels due to lower-back tightness, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Manager Chris Woodward said that Goody would be re-evaluated Monday before the Rangers determine whether or not he'll require a stint on the injured list. Goody has appeared in five games for Texas this season, giving up one run over three innings and collecting his first career save.
Goody recorded the save Wednesday by retiring the Diamondbacks in order with one strikeout.
Closer Jose Leclerc was warming up for the save opportunity, but his shoulder tightened up and Goody was then called upon. If Leclerc lands on the injured list it seems unlikely Goody operates as the fill-in closer given Wednesday was his first career save, but it was a solid outing to show his potential for a high-leverage role.

The 29-year-old Goody, who has 141 games of MLB experience under his belt, was expected to earn a spot in the bullpen after dominating during spring training. He owns an impressive 28.3 percent career strikeout rate over 141.2 innings.
Goody struck out the side in Monday's spring game against the Athletics.
Goody has been the bullpen's highlight in the Cactus League. Over six scoreless innings, he's allowed one hit and two walks while striking out 14. He's nothing more than a fastball-slider reliever with average four-seam velocity who's been dogged by high walk and HR rates. But through it all, he's shown an ability to punch guys out, averaging 11.3 K/9 over the previous three seasons in Cleveland.
