Braves' Orlando Arcia: Agrees to three-year extension
Arcia agreed Thursday with Atlanta on a three-year, $7.3 million contract extension with a $2 million club option for 2026, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Arcia was named Atlanta's starting shortstop last week and now has a new deal. He had been under contract for $1.3 million in 2023 with a $2 million club option for 2024, but the extension wipes those years out and adds on potentially two more. Arcia might ultimately just be keeping the shortstop seat warm for Vaughn Grissom or Braden Shewmake, but he has the versatility to bounce around and transition to a utility role.

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Wins starting shortstop job
Arcia is in line to open the season as Atlanta's starting shortstop, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Barring an addition at the position via trade in the days leading up to Opening Day, Arcia has won the shortstop gig over Vaughn Grissom and Braden Shewmake, both of whom were optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. Arcia received the appointment atop the depth chart despite mediocre results at the plate in Grapefruit League play (.247/.367/.360 slash line over 30 plate appearances), but he impressed with his glove. Shewmake and Grissom both have a great chance of taking the job from Arcia if the 28-year-old struggles once the season gets underway.

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Headed for backup role
One of Vaughn Grissom or Braden Shewmake is expected to open the season as Atlanta's starting shortstop, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports, which would leave Arcia in a bench role.
The veteran infielder began the spring competing with Grissom for the job, but Shewmake's strong defense this spring has pushed him into the mix. Arcia could still see significant playing time this season if whichever youngster begins the season as the starter struggles, but it would likely take injuries or poor performance from both to push him to the top of the depth chart. Arcia slashed .244/.316/.416 in 68 games for Atlanta last season.
