Seager started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 in Monday's exhibition game against Boston. Seager, who missed most of the Cactus League with a groin injury, increased his activity from Sunday's spring debut. He went from two to three at-bats and three to six innings. The two teams will play another game Tuesday, and Seager is expected to participate. It's unclear if he'll play the full nine innings, but that is probably something the Rangers would want to see before Thursday's Opening Day matchup against the Cubs.... See More ... See Less

Rangers' Corey Seager: Makes spring debut
Seager started at shortstop and went 2-for-2 in Saturday's spring game against the Royals. Seager made his spring debut, which had been delayed following surgery to repair a sports hernia in January. He played three innings in the field before being replaced by Ezequiel Duran. The shortstop had been taking at-bats recently, and the Rangers were cautiously optimistic that he could get into game action. After the Rangers break camp Sunday, Seager is expected to play both exhibition games against the Red Sox on Monday and Tuesday, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Playing shortstop Saturday
Seager (groin) will start at shortstop and bat second in Saturday's spring training game against the Royals. Seager underwent sports hernia surgery in late January, and the shortstop has spent spring training ramping up his activity. He has participated in live batting practice since March 18 and appears healthy enough to make his 2024 Cactus League debut. Seager slashed .327/.390/.623 with 33 home runs and 96 RBI over 536 plate appearances in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: May get ABs next week
Seager (groin) could get at-bats during exhibition games against the Red Sox next Monday and Tuesday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Seager has been taking live batting practice since March 18, and the Rangers aren't ruling out the shortstop for Opening Day. He had a couple of injuries in 2023 and returned quickly from each. Seager only played in three games with Double-A Frisco during a rehab assignment after a hamstring strain and did not require a rehab assignment after a thumb sprain.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Taking live batting practice Monday
Seager (groin) is scheduled to take live batting practice Monday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Seager has been trending in a good direction as he ramps back up following January sports hernia surgery. He has a chance to play in some Cactus League or exhibition games before the spring schedule comes to an end next Tuesday. If Seager is able to get into a game in the next week, he could be a realistic option for the Rangers' Opening Day lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: More optimism for Opening Day
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that he's more optimistic Seager (groin) will be ready for Opening Day, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. It's not a exactly a specific update, but more optimism from the skipper is certainly an encouraging development. Seager resumed taking swings this week and has also been fielding groundballs and playing catch, and he should continue ramping up his baseball work during the closing stretch of camp. The 29-year-old appears to have a decent chance of being ready by Opening Day.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Taking light swings Monday
Seager (groin) will take some light swings Monday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Seager has been fielding grounders and playing catch, but he'll be swinging a bat for the first time since he underwent sports hernia surgery in January. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that he expects to know more next week regarding Seager's Opening Day availability.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Fields grounders, plays catch
Seager (groin) fielded some grounders and played catch Thursday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Seager has resumed some baseball activities but has not yet been cleared to swing a bat as he works his way back from sports hernia surgery. He is hoping to play in some Cactus League games before the spring schedule runs out, but it's uncertain as to when that might happen. It seems more likely that not that Seager will need some time on the injured list to start the season, but he shouldn't be out long.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Hoping for Cactus League at-bats
Manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday he's "hopeful" Seager (groin) will get some at-bats in Cactus League play before the end of spring training, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports. The 29-year-old's availability for Opening Day remains in question as he recovers from the hernia surgery he underwent in late January. Seager recently had his progress slowed by the flu, but it apparently wasn't enough to delay his potential return. It's unclear if he has resumed baseball activities, but there should be more clarity on his status as spring training continues to progress. Even if Seager isn't quite ready by Opening Day, he isn't expected to miss much time.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Not sure he'll be ready for opener
Seager (groin) told reporters Monday that he hopes to be ready for Opening Day but isn't sure it will happen, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Seager underwent surgery in January to repair a sports hernia and was just recently cleared for incline walking and riding a stationary bike. It's not clear when he might be able to resume baseball activities and play in games, but it does not appear to be imminent. If Seager needs a stint on the injured list to start the season, Ezequiel Duran would figure to be in line to fill in at shortstop for the Rangers.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Undergoes sports hernia surgery
Seager underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a sports hernia, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Seager initially suffered the injury during the postseason and the hope was that it would heal with some extended rest over the offseason. That didn't happen, however, so the decision was made to have the operation. The Rangers are hopeful that Seager will be ready in time for Opening Day, but if he's not, Ezequiel Duran would figure to see extra playing time in the early going. Seager was the runner-up for American League MVP in 2023 and captured World Series MVP honors during Texas' run to the title.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Collects two hits after HBP
Seager went 2-for-5 in Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Angels. Seager, who was removed from Tuesday's game after getting hit by a pitch on the forearm, didn't miss much time. He was back in the starting lineup Wednesday and delivered a couple of singles. The shortstop extended his hitting streak to eight games, during which he's 10-for-32 (.313).... See More ... Rangers' Corey Seager: In lineup after HBP
Seager (forearm) is starting at shortstop and batting second Wednesday against the Angels. Seager was removed from Tuesday's loss to the Angels a few innings after taking a Reid Detmers fastball off his right forearm, but X-rays turned up negative and he will immediately return to action for the Rangers in Wednesday's series finale. The 29-year-old has delivered a robust .332/.394/.640 batting line with 33 homers, 42 doubles and 96 RBI across 114 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: X-rays negative
X-rays on Seager's right forearm came back negative after he got hit by a pitch during Tuesday's loss against the Angels, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Seager remained in the game after getting hit by a 93-mph Reid Detmers fastball, but he was eventually pulled in the sixth after the Angels took a 9-1 lead. The Rangers will check back in with Seager on Wednesday, and his availability will likely hinge on how sore his forearm feels at that point.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Exits with forearm bruise
Seager was removed from Tuesday's game against the Angels with a right forearm contusion, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Seager took a 93-mph fastball off his forearm during the fifth inning and initially stayed in the game, but he was later removed during the sixth. Given the Rangers were down by eight runs at the time of Seager's removal, it's possible the decision to pull him was simply precautionary, but the team will still take a closer look at him and monitor his condition as the postseason approaches.... Rangers' Corey Seager: Collects two hits in win
Seager went 2-for-4 with with a solo home run in Friday's 8-5 win over Seattle. Seager, who entered the game with just two hits over his last 22 at-bats, gave the Rangers an early lead with a first-inning home run. While Seager's .274 average in September is his "worst" month of the season, the shortstop sports a .914 OPS with seven homers, seven doubles, 14 RBI and 18 runs scored over 20 games this month.... Rangers' Corey Seager: Triple shy of cycle
Seager went 3-for-4 with a two-run double, a solo homer, a walk and an additional run scored in Thursday's 9-2 win over the Blue Jays. Seager stayed hot Thursday, with a solo shot in the first frame, a two-run double off the wall in the third and a base hit in the fourth. The 29-year-old superstar has now hit safely in five consecutive contests, posting four multi-hit efforts and going 11-for-22 with five doubles, two home runs, six RBI and nine runs during the impressive stretch. Seager improved his AL-leading batting average to .344, and the shortstop is two homers away from tying his career-high mark of 33, which he achieved last season.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Laces two doubles
Seager went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-3 victory over Toronto. Seager hit his AL-leading 38th and 39th doubles in Tuesday's contest. The nine-year veteran has played his role in keeping the Rangers afloat in the playoff race by swinging a hot bat since returning from a sprained thumb Aug. 2. Over that span, Seager has hit .324 with 10 doubles, 15 home runs, 31 RBI and 32 runs in 145 at-bats.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Goes yard in win
Seager went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Sunday's 9-4 win over the Athletics. Seager has gone 9-for-38 (.237) over his first nine games in September, but five of his hits in that span have been homers. He's also produced seven RBI. It's not all that surprising that his consistency at the plate has faltered recently -- he's still hitting an extraordinary .336 on the year through 99 contests while boasting a 1.049 OPS. He hasn't hit better than .307 in any of the previous six years. The shortstop has reached the 30-homer mark for the second year in a row while adding 87 RBI, 76 runs scored, 36 doubles and two stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Corey Seager: Gives team early lead
Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-3 loss to Oakland. Seager cranked his 29th home run in the bottom of the first inning to erase an early 1-0 deficit. He's gone deep five times in the last eight games, as Seager continued a massive season at the dish. His 1.052 OPS ranks second behind only Shohei Ohtani (1.066).... See More ... See Less
