White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Season debut expected around May 1
White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Thursday that he expects Clevinger to make his season debut around May 1, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Clevinger's one-year, $3 million contract became official Thursday, and he was optioned to the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to get ramped up before appearing in a major-league game. The White Sox have been using four starters up to this point in the season, and that trend might continue until Clevinger is ready, with the club perhaps opting for some bullpen games when necessary. Clevinger posted a 3.77 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 110:40 K:BB over 131.1 innings last season.

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Stays with South Siders
Clevinger agreed to a one-year contract with the White Sox on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
After dealing away Dylan Cease to the Padres late in spring training, the White Sox had been in touch with Clevinger and were able to finalize a deal to bring him back to Chicago for a second season and fill the final spot in the rotation. While making 24 starts for the White Sox in 2023, the 33-year-old right-hander posted a 3.77 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 110:40 K:BB over 131.1 innings last season. Because he hadn't been participating in spring training and was going through a throwing progression at his home prior to striking a deal with Chicago, Clevinger will presumably require a ramp-up period and may not be ready to make his season debut for another week or two.

Mike Clevinger: ChiSox mulling reunion
The White Sox are having internal discussions about signing Clevinger, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
The White Sox are also reportedly in on Michael Lorenzen as they seek much-needed rotation reinforcements following the trade of Dylan Cease and move of Michael Kopech to the bullpen. Clevinger had a solid 2023 campaign with the White Sox, holding a 3.77 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 110:40 K:BB over 131.1 innings.

Mike Clevinger: Declines mutual option
Clevinger declined his $12 million mutual option withe the White Sox for 2024 on Friday.
After posting a 3.77 ERA and 1.23 WHIP across 131.1 innings in 24 starts, Clevinger will take a $4 million buyout and enter the open market. Clevinger turns 33 in December and will likely have a handful of suitors to choose from in the offseason.

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Destroyed by San Diego
Clevinger (9-9) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over 1.2 innings against the Padres. He struck out two.
Clevinger hadn't allowed more than six hits or two earned runs in any of his previous four starts, but he yielded four runs in the first frame and two more in the second Saturday as he delivered his shortest outing of the season. The 32-year-old hurler had been on quite the run since returning from a bicep injury July 29, posting a 6-4 record with a 2.96 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 55:12 K:BB across 67 innings. However, Saturday's dud increased Clevinger's season-long ERA from 3.40 to 3.77 to go with a 1.23 WHIP and 110:40 K:BB across 131.1 innings - his biggest workload since 2018.

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Earns win in rain-shortened outing
Clevinger (9-8) earned the win Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings against the Red Sox. He didn't record a strikeout.
While he failed to log a strikeout Sunday, Clevinger held the Red Sox to just two runs on a pair of solo homers, earning the win in a rain-shortened affair. The 32-year-old Clevinger has been pitching well recently, allowing two runs or fewer in each of his last four outings with a 1.61 ERA in that span (28 innings). He'll carry a 3.40 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 108 strikeouts into his final start this season, currently scheduled for next weekend against San Diego.

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Tosses complete game
Clevinger (8-8) allowed one run on six hits over nine innings Monday, striking out seven and earning a victory over Washington.
Clevinger was one out away from a shutout but served up a solo shot to Dominic Smith. Since getting tagged with eight runs by the Tigers on Sep. 2, Clevinger has allowed just two runs over his last 22 innings. He's recorded a 21:0 K:BB while lowering his season ERA from 3.90 to 3.42 during that span. Clevinger is currently projected to start in Boston this weekend.

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Takes loss in quality start
Clevinger (7-8) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out seven without walking a batter over six innings, but he took the loss Wednesday versus the Royals.
Clevinger limited the damage to a two-run home run from Michael Massey in the second inning. That was enough for the loss, as the White Sox were defeated 7-1. Clevinger has gone at least seven innings in four of his last six starts, allowing just three runs in those games, though he's given up 12 runs over nine innings in the two poorer outings in that span. The right-hander now has a 3.61 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 101:38 K:BB through 114.2 innings over 21 starts this season. He's projected for a road start versus the Nationals next week.
