Although Stripling yielded three or fewer runs for the third time in his last four starts, the A's weren't able to provide enough run support to put Stripling in contention for the win. Though Stripling picked up his fourth straight loss to begin the campaign -- tied with Luis Castillo for most in the league -- he at least managed to improve upon the six-run, 11-hit performance he posted his previous time on the mound. The right-hander gave up a season-low six hits Monday and came one out away from a quality start, but he garnered only one run of support from Oakland's offense. Stripling has given the A's decent length this season by averaging nearly six innings per start, but he's well off the fantasy radar in standard leagues given his poor overall numbers.

Stripling took a tough-luck loss despite allowing just one run over seven innings against Boston his last time out, but he was much more responsible for his third loss of the campaign Wednesday. The veteran right-hander allowed 14 baserunners, and it was somewhat surprising that he was able to last six frames on 97 pitches given that amount of traffic. Stripling has at least been able to eat innings for Oakland this year -- he's averaging 6.0 frames per start through three appearances -- but his 5.50 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB aren't appealing for fantasy purposes.

Stripling managed to hold the Red Sox to one run on the afternoon despite allowing six hits over the first four innings. Still, he would end up being tagged with his second loss as Oakland's offense was shut out for the second time in its last three games. The right-hander has now surrendered 15 hits over his first two starts (12 innings) and things won't get any easier next week when the A's travel to Arlington to take on the reigning World Series champions.

Stripling struggled right out of the gate by yielding three runs in the first inning, including a two-run shot from Jose Ramirez. Before landing on the injured list in mid-August with a mid-back strain, Stripling had covered at least four innings in each of his seven outings with the Giants following the All-Star break. With that in mind, his light workload Friday was somewhat surprising, and it could be an indication that the Giants may not intend to bring him back as a traditional starter. San Francisco has been getting by with four regular starters of late in Logan Webb, Alex Cobb, Kyle Harrison and Tristan Beck while deploying Sean Manaea as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen in lieu of a fifth starter.
