  • Mariners' Wyatt Mathisen: Designated for assignment

Mathisen was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Friday. Mathisen never made his way up to Seattle's 26-man roster after being acquired from the Diamondbacks on June 24. He'll once again go on the waiver wire, where he could attract interest from clubs looking for organizational infield depth. The Mariners acquired Mathisen from the Rays on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations. Mathisen, who began the season with the Diamondbacks, will be moving on to his third organization in just over the month after the Rays were quick to drop him from their 40-man roster. The 27-year-old should have a clearer path to getting a look at the big-league level with Seattle, but he's expected to report to Triple-A Tacoma initially. Over 18 games with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate in Durham, Mathisen slashed .288/.344/.525 with three home runs and nine RBI.

  • Rays' Wyatt Mathisen: Designated for assignment Tuesday

Mathisen was designated for assignment Tuesday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports. Mathisen was acquired from Arizona on May 16 but failed to crack Tampa Bay's 26-man roster during just over a month with the organization. With top prospect Wander Franco being added to the 26-man and 40-man rosters Tuesday, Mathisen ended up on the outside looking in. Mathisen could attract interest on the waiver wire from teams searching for infield depth but is highly unlikely to find a major role with a big-league club anytime soon.
