Nola will be on the bench for Saturday's game against the Yankees, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Nola's playing time has slipped recently, particularly against right-handers. He remains the primary catcher against lefties, but it's been Brett Sullivan behind the plate against four of the last five righties, including Saturday's starter Luis Severino. Nola is hitting .135/.259/.188 on the year, so he's not making much of a case to expand his role.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Austin Nola: On bench again Thursday
Nola is out of the lineup again Thursday against the Nationals. Brett Sullivan will make a second straight start at catcher and could continue to get regular looks versus right-handed pitching opponents, though neither backstop has been particularly productive with the bat this year. It's a situation to avoid in standard fantasy leagues.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Austin Nola: Takes seat Wednesday
Nola is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Nola has hit just .103/.212/.103 in May over 29 at-bats, and he continues to see his playing time decrease. Brett Sullivan is starting behind the plate and hitting ninth against the Nationals on Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -

Padres' Austin Nola: Not starting Wednesday
Nola is on the bench Wednesday versus the Reds, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Brett Sullivan will handle catching duties in place of Nola, who has gone 5-for-31 with a pair of extra-base hits and three RBI in his last 10 games.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Austin Nola: Gets Monday off
Nola is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Reds. Nola will get a break for Monday's game against right-hander Luke Weaver and the Reds. Brett Sullivan will handle backstop duties and hit ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Austin Nola: Hits first homer of season
Nola went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 6-4 victory over the Giants. Nola took advantage of the incredibly friendly hitting environment in Mexico City on Sunday, crushing a 440-foot homer that plated Matt Carpenter in the fifth inning. His long ball was the catalyst for the Padres' comeback, scoring the first two of six unanswered runs over the final four frames. Nola owns an abysmal .156/.280/.234 slash line through 21 games and should remain outside of fantasy consideration, especially once Luis Campusano (thumb) returns.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Austin Nola: Sitting out Friday
Nola is not in the lineup Friday against the Diamondbacks. Brett Sullivan will catch and bat ninth versus the Diamondbacks and right-hander Zac Gallen. Nola has slashed just .152/.250/.196 through his first 52 plate appearances this season with the Padres.... See More ... See Less -

Padres' Austin Nola: Back in action Monday
Nola (hand/nose) will start at catcher and bat sixth in Monday's Cactus League game against the Mariners. Assuming he comes out of Monday's exhibition finale without aggravating the left hand injury he suffered Saturday or the fractured nose he suffered March 19, Nola should be on track to serve as the Padres' Opening Day catcher Thursday versus the Rockies.... Padres' Austin Nola: On track to play Monday
Padres manager Bob Melvin said Nola (hand/nose) is slated to play in Monday's Cactus League finale versus the Rockies, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Nola had been expected to play Sunday versus the Mariners, but the Padres decided to err on the side of caution and hold him out for the day after he took a foul ball off his left (non-catching) hand while playing in a minor-league contest Saturday. The backstop had already been recovering from a fractured nose stemming from being hit in the face by a pitch March 19, but neither injury looks as though it'll prevent him from being ready to go for Opening Day. Provided Nola plays Monday as expected, he should head into the regular season as the Friars' top option behind the dish.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Austin Nola: Not in Sunday's lineup
Nola (hand/nose) isn't starting Sunday's spring game against the Mariners as previously reported, Bob Scanlan of Bally Sports San Diego reports. The 33-year-old exited a minor-league contest Saturday after taking a foul tip off his non-catching hand, and he's not in the lineup Sunday despite an earlier report indicating otherwise. Nola also suffered a fractured nose when he was hit in the face by a pitch March 19. According to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, the veteran backstop is scheduled to hit in the cage Sunday and rejoin the lineup for Monday's Cactus League finale, so his outlook for Opening Day doesn't appear to be in question.... Padres' Austin Nola: Returns to lineup
Nola (hand/nose) is back in the lineup for Sunday's Cactus League game against the Mariners, Bob Scanlan of Bally Sports San Diego reports. Nola took a foul ball off his hand in a minor-league contest Saturday, and he also suffered a fractured nose after being hit in the face by a pitch March 19. The backstop is feeling well enough to play in an exhibition contest, however, and it appears there's a good chance Nola will be ready to roll for the beginning of the regular season.... See More ... Padres' Austin Nola: Departs game after hit to hand
Nola (nose) left a minor-league contest Saturday after taking a foul tip to his non-catching hand, Bob Scanlan of Bally Sports San Diego reports. It hasn't been the most enjoyable spring for Nola, who suffered a fractured nose after getting hit in the face by a pitch March 19. He returned to the field Saturday to catch for Yu Darvish in a minor-league contest, but the backstop was forced to depart after taking a foul tip to his left hand. Nola was already uncertain for Opening Day due to the nose injury, and it's uncertain whether the hand issue will further complicate his ability to be ready for Thursday's opener.... See More ...
