Reds' JT Riddle: Booted off 40-man roster
The Reds designated Riddle for assignment Tuesday.
Cincinnati will replace Riddle on the 40-man roster and 28-man active roster with another utility type in Matt Reynolds, whom the Reds claimed off waivers from the Mets. After receiving a call-up from Triple-A Louisville a week ago, Riddle appeared in two games and went 1-for-4 with a base hit.

Reds' JT Riddle: Contract selected by Cincinnati
Riddle had his contract selected by the Reds on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old signed with Cincinnati on a minor-league deal in mid-March and will join the big-league roster as infield depth with Jonathan India (hamstring) and Mike Moustakas (biceps) heading to the injured list. Riddle appeared in only four major-league games with the Twins last year and had a .591 OPS at the Triple-A level.

Twins' JT Riddle: DFA'd by Minnesota
RIddle (COVID-19 protocols) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list and designated for assignment by the Twins on Friday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
The 29-year-old had his contract selected April 14 after Andrelton Simmons tested positive for the virus, and Riddle landed on the COVID-19 IL himself a week later. Riddle's services are no longer required with Simmons, Max Kepler and Kyle Garlick now all back from the IL.

Twins' JT Riddle: On COVID list thru contact tracing
Riddle was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday as the result of being identified as a close contact of an infected person, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Since Riddle hasn't tested positive for the virus, MLB's health and protocols will allow him to rejoin the Twins after a mandatory seven-day quarantine, assuming he continues to test negative during that time. The utility man is one of five Twins players that currently resides on the COVID-19 IL.

Riddle appeared in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader loss to Oakland as a pinch runner. The Twins called up a fourth catcher in Tomas Telis to replace Riddle on the roster, so Minnesota will likely need to add an additional backup infielder after the game.

Riddle has played in parts of four seasons at the big-league level but has very little to show for it, hitting just .222/.261/.355 overall. His .149/.174/.224 line in 23 games for the Pirates last season represented a significant step back from his already-poor career numbers. Riddle's ability to play shortstop helps his case for a bench job, but the Twins likely won't be happy if they wind up giving him a lot of at-bats.

Riddle decided to elect free agency Tuesday rather than accept an outright assignment to the minors, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
