Chapman went 1-for-3 with a double in Friday's split-squad game against the Phillies. The third baseman seems to have found his timing at the plate, going 6-for-22 (.273) over his last eight games with three doubles and a 2:2 BB:K. Chapman's still looking for his first spring homer, but hitting for power hasn't been an issue for the 29-year-old during his career. With free agency looming next winter, Chapman has plenty of incentive to put together a big 2023 after posting a .757 OPS last year with 27 home runs and 76 RBI.... See More ... See Less

Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Takes seat for matinee
Chapman isn't starting the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Orioles. Chapman was scheduled to get a day off for Tuesday's matchup before the game was postponed, and he'll instead sit for Wednesday's matinee. Cavan Biggio is starting at the hot corner and batting fifth.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Resting Tuesday
Chapman is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Orioles. Chapman is one of several Jays regulars to get the day off. Cavan Biggio is starting at third base and hitting fifth.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Notches two extra-base hits
Chapman went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two additional runs in Tuesday's 18-11 win over the Phillies. Chapman owns an .821 OPS thus far in September, but a good chunk of his offensive production has come in the last four games. During that span, Chapman has collected four extra-base hits (three home runs, one double) while driving in seven and scoring seven times.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Goes yard twice Friday
Chapman went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored in Friday's 6-3 win over the Orioles. The third baseman got the Blue Jays on the board with a solo shot off Jordan Lyles in the second inning, then capped his team's scoring with a two-run blast off Joey Krehbiel in the sixth. Chapman snapped a 25-game homer drought with the performance, but on the season he's got 26 home runs and 71 RBI through 139 games, nearly identical power numbers to 2021.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Drops in order with Springer back
Chapman will serve as the Blue Jays' designated hitter and No. 6 batter in the first game of Monday's doubleheader with the Orioles. While George Springer received the day off in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Pirates, Chapman made his third start of the season out of the leadoff spot, going 1-for-5 at the dish. Springer is back in the lineup for the first game of Monday's twin bill, so Chapman predictably moved back down in the order, and he'll likely find himself in the sixth or seventh spot in most games moving forward while all of Toronto's key pieces are at full health. Since the beginning of August, Chapman is hitting just .198 with four home runs, 15 runs, seven RBI and one stolen base in 30 games.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: On base three times against BoSox
Chapman went 2-for-4 with a walk, a triple, a run scored and an RBI in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Red Sox. The veteran third baseman put together his first multi-hit effort since Aug. 8 as he continues to underperform his metrics. Chapman is sitting in the 96th percentile in the league in average exit velocity and 94th percentile in barrel rate, but all he has to show for it is a .236/.315/.467 slash line. His numbers have been even worse in August -- .174/.260/.391 through 19 games -- but half his 12 hits on the month have gone for extra bases, including four of his 24 homers on the year.... Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Clubs solo shot
Chapman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Twins. Chapman began the Blue Jays' comeback push with his fifth-inning blast. While he ended July hot, the third baseman had gone 0-for-11 to begin August before snapping the skid Friday. He's up to 21 homers, 58 RBI, 57 runs scored, a stolen base, 18 doubles and a .241/.320/.473 slash line through 100 games.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Power surge continues
Chapman went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Tigers. The third baseman gave the Blue Jays an early lead by taking Bryan Garcia deep in the second inning, but the offense quickly ran out of steam. Chapman's gone yard three times in the last two days to extend his hitting streak to eight games, but he's been locked in for longer than that at the plate -- over his last 18 contests, he's slashing a sizzling .385/.467/.815 with eight homers and 18 RBI.... Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Homers twice in win
Chapman went 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI and a walk in Thursday's 5-3 win against the Tigers. Chapman gave Toronto its first lead with a two-run shot to left field in the fourth inning, and he tacked on a solo shot in the sixth. The third baseman extended his hitting streak to seven games with the pair of long balls, and he's hitting a robust .520 (13-for-25) with three homers, nine RBI and nine runs over that stretch. Chapman is still batting just .245 on the season, but he's posted a .320 mark through 22 games in July.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Scores twice in win
Chapman went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in Sunday's 8-4 victory over the Red Sox. Chapman scored on a Raimel Tapia triple in the first inning, then again on a Danny Jansen groundout in the fifth. He also picked up two hits in the game, his fourth multi-hit performance in his last six games. Chapman has gone 11-for-24 during that stretch, raising his batting average from .226 to .237. The third baseman is batting .288 in July after batting .223 from April through June.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Drives in four in rout
Chapman went 3-for-6 with a two-run home run, two additional runs and four total RBI in Friday's 28-5 win over the Red Sox. The four RBI and three runs established new season-high marks for Chapman, whose achievements might have drawn more attention had the rest of the Toronto lineup not gone off as well. Toronto scored 25 of its franchise-record 28 runs in the first five innings alone, with the Nos. 6 through 9 hitters -- Lourdes Gurriel, Chapman, Santiago Espinal and Danny Jansen -- crossing home 14 times on the night.... Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Clubs 15th homer
Chapman went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 8-1 win over the Royals. The third baseman took Carlos Hernandez deep in the fifth inning to blow open what had been a 4-1 game. Chapman has gone yard in back-to-back games and four of his last nine, giving him 15 homers on the season. He's batting .333 (11-for-33) over that nine-game stretch in what could be a sign of things to come -- his .257 xBA and .515 xSLG are well above his actual .226 and .428 marks.... See More ... Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Belts 14th homer
Chapman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Royals. He supplied Toronto's only offense on the night by taking Angel Zerpa deep in the fifth inning. Chapman has gone yard three times in the last eight games, giving him 14 homers on the year, but his .218/.295/.413 slash line through 84 contests continues to limit his fantasy utility.... Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Not starting Sunday
Chapman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. Chapman will sit Sunday after posting a .597 OPS and 27.8 percent strikeout rate in his past nine games. Santiago Espinal will shift to the hot corner while Cavan Biggio starts at second base.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Two hits including homer
Chapman went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's victory over the Athletics. Chapman walked in the fifth inning before he later took James Kaprielian deep for a solo shot in the seventh frame. He also added a single in his final at-bat in the ninth. The homer was his 13th of the season and he has now gone deep in back-to-back games. Chapman came into Tuesday's contest in the midst of an 0-for-16 stretch from the plate, but he went 5-for-7 with two homers and three RBI in the final two games of the series to snap out of the cold spell.... Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Hammers homer Tuesday
Chapman went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Athletics. Chapman tied the game at 2-2 with his second-inning blast. The third baseman was ice cold to begin July, with his long ball snapping an 0-for-16 skid. He's now batting .220/.293/.407 with 12 homers, 39 RBI, 41 runs scored and 14 doubles through 300 plate appearances in his first year with the Blue Jays.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Sits Friday afternoon
Chapman is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Tampa Bay. An 0-for-3 showing in Thursday's series opener has Chapman hitting .231 with a pair of home runs and eight RBI in his last 10 games. Santiago Espinal starts at third base while Cavan Biggio plays second.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Solo homer in loss
Chapman went 3-for-4 with a double, a solo homer and two total runs scored in Saturday's loss to the Brewers. Chapman launched a solo shot in the fifth inning to put the Jays on the board and later came around to score on a Lourdes Gurriel single in the ninth. The third baseman now has at least one hit in each of his last three games, raising his batting average to .224. His home run Saturday was his 10th of the season.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Returns to lineup
