The Mets optioned Guillorme to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. He'll head down to the minors to clear room on the 26-man active roster for corner infielder Mark Vientos, who was called up from Triple-A. Guillorme is the Mets' best and most versatile defensive infielder, but his bat has been even weaker than usual this season and the floundering New York offense could benefit from the higher offensive upside that Vientos offers.... Mets' Luis Guillorme: Playing time increasing
Guillorme will start at second base and bat eighth in Tuesday's game against the Nationals. The lefty-hitting Guillorme will pick up his fifth start in six games, with one of those assignments even coming against a left-handed pitcher. Though he still appears to be on the outside looking in for an everyday role, Guillorme's high contact rate, on-base skills and quality defense in the infield may be enough for him to earn a handful of starts per week.... Mets' Luis Guillorme: Getting a start
Guillorme is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Mets on Wednesday against the Dodgers, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Manager Buck Showalter is loading up his lineup with lefties against former Met Noah Syndergaard. Guillorme has had a quiet year at the plate, although he did reach base five times in a start over the weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: On base five times Friday
Guillorme went 2-for-3 with three walks, two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's win over the A's. Getting the start at second base and hitting eighth, Guillorme was one of four Mets to reach base at least four times on a night when the team scored 17 runs on 11 hits and a stunning 17 walks. The utility infielder has seen action in nine games so far this season, batting .273 (6-for-22) with one RBI and four runs, but he's still looking for his first extra-base hit or first steal.... Mets' Luis Guillorme: Getting start at second base
Guillorme will start at second base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Padres. Guillorme is at the keystone while Jeff McNeil shift to right field to cover for Starling Marte (neck). The utility infielder is 3-for-16 so far at the plate this season.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Set for bench duties
Guillorme got the start at second base in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays, hitting leadoff and going 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI. The Mets deployed something close to their Opening Day lineup, but Guillorme filled in for Jeff McNeil at the keystone. Guillorme figures to be the team's top infield bench option this season, and the 28-year-old appears ready for the regular season after going 12-for-37 (.324) this spring with four doubles and a 7:8 BB:K.... Mets' Luis Guillorme: Losing work to Escobar
Guillorme is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Milwaukee. Before he landed on the injured list Aug. 15, Guillorme had filled the strong side of a platoon at third base with Eduardo Escobar. However, the lefty-hitting Guillorme looks to have faded into a reserve role since his return from the groin injury a week ago, as Escobar has earned himself more work against right-handed pitching by producing at the plate. Escobar will stick in the lineup Monday with reigning Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes on the hill for MIlwaukee.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Not starting Saturday
Guillorme isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Pirates. Guillorme started three of the last four games and went 4-for-12 with a walk. He'll get a day off while Eduardo Escobar starts at the hot corner and bats eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Heads to bench Wednesday
Guillorme isn't starting Wednesday against the Cubs. Guillorme returned from the injured list Tuesday and went 1-for-3. He'll get a chance to rest while Eduardo Escobar starts at the hot corner and bats seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Rejoins active roster
The Mets reinstated Guillorme (groin) from the 10-day injured list Monday. Guillorme had been on the IL with a strained groin since Aug. 15. Having hit .283/.355/.357 and provided solid defense around the infield this season, the 27-year-old should get plenty of playing time for the remainder of the season, especially while Starling Marte (finger) is out of the lineup.... Mets' Luis Guillorme: Nearly ready to return
Guillorme (groin) will be evaluated for a potential return after his rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Guillorme has missed nearly a month with a left groin strain, but he's almost ready to going after grabbing four hits in his first three rehab games. He could return as soon as early next week, at which point he'll face new competition for at-bats in the form of Mark Vientos, who earned his first career call-up Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Nearing rehab assignment
Guillorme (groin) could begin a rehab assignment as early as Sunday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Guillorme carried a three-week return timetable after landing on the injured list with a left groin strain Aug. 15, and he seems to be on track in his recovery process since he's closing in on a rehab assignment. Assuming he joins a minor-league affiliate Sunday, it wouldn't be surprising to see him rejoin the Mets sometime the following weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Will miss several weeks
Guillorme will miss at least three weeks with a left groin strain, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. There were conflicting reports on exactly how much time Guillorme will miss, but he will be out of action until at least sometime in September. Guillorme was placed on the injured list Monday night and was replaced on the roster by Deven Marrero, who along with Eduardo Escobar will handle the hot corner until Guillorme is ready to return.... Mets' Luis Guillorme: Not in Monday's lineup
Guillorme (groin) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta. Guillorme left Sunday's game with a groin injury, and he will be held out a day later for the same reason. Eduardo Escobar will man the hot corner for the Mets on Monday night.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Dealing with groin issue
Guillorme was diagnosed with left groin tightness after leaving Sunday's game against the Phillies, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. Guillorme went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run before exiting Sunday's contest with the injury. The 27-year-old is scheduled to undergo medical imaging Monday and should be considered day-to-day in the meantime.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Leaves with injury
Guillorme was removed from Sunday's game against the Phillies with an apparent leg injury, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Guillorme delivered an RBI single and came around to score during the fourth inning, but he came up limping after running home from second base. Eduardo Escobar (oblique) is also banged up but took over at third base for Guillorme.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Takes seat Friday
Guillorme isn't starting Friday against Philadelphia. Guillorme is getting a day off after he went 3-for-8 with a run over the last two games. Eduardo Escobar will take over at the hot corner and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Sitting out Monday
Guillorme is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds. The lefty-hitting Guillorme will take a seat against a right-handed starter (Justin Dunn), but he still appears to be holding down the strong side of platoon at third base with Eduardo Escobar, who is starting Monday for only the second time in the Mets' last eight games. Guillorme, meanwhile, was included in the lineup in each of the last seven contests, a stretch in which the Mets faced six right-handers and one southpaw. He recorded only five hits in 26 at-bats during that span, but the Mets value the smooth defense Guillorme brings in the infield.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Captures large-side platoon role
Guillorme will start at third base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Nationals. Guillorme has now started at third base against a right-handed pitcher for the fourth time in the last five matchups, while Eduardo Escobar has played just once. The usage is an indication that the two will be deployed in a platoon at the hot corner moving forward, a reality that manager Buck Showalter acknowledged following Tuesday's loss to the Nationals, according to Tim Healey of Newsday. As the left-handed option in the platoon, Guillorme should see the larger share of playing time of the two and notice a spike in his fantasy value accordingly. Over his 176 plate appearances versus righties this season, Guillorme is slashing .312/.379/.395 with two home runs, nine RBI and 23 runs.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Luis Guillorme: Sits in second straight
Guillorme is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. Guillorme picked up three consecutive starts coming out of the All-Star break, but he'll find himself on the bench for both contests of the interleague series with the Yankees. While Jeff McNeil, Eduardo Escobar and Francisco Lindor are all healthy, they'll continue to serve as the primary options at second base, third base and shortstop, respectively, closing off all of Guillorme's avenues to regular at-bats....
