  Stevenson signed a contract with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of Nippon Professional Baseball on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Stevenson, 29, is a career .243/.316/.352 hitter over parts of six seasons in the majors. He can play all three outfield spots and undoubtedly got a nice bump in pay to head overseas.

Stevenson had been outrighted off the Twins' 40-man roster and he's decided to pursue a contract elsewhere rather then accept that assignment. The 29-year-old outfielder slashed just .189/.250/.216 across 40 plate appearances with Minnesota in 2023 and will likely have to settle for a minor-league contract this winter.

The 28-year-old outfielder put up a .916 OPS in Triple-A, however, and he could return to the 40-man roster if he continues to perform well in the minors next season.

The 27-year-old saw the most action of his career last season but failed to seize the opportunity, managing only a .633 OPS in 213 plate appearances with a 28.6 percent strikeout rate against only a 6.1 percent walk rate. Assuming he's on the Opening Day roster, Stevenson has a path to significant playing time again in 2022 as the Nats' outfield isn't exactly set aside from Juan Soto, but his profile doesn't suggest he'd be a fantasy asset even in a starting role.

Robles will be out of the lineup for a second straight game Monday, allowing Stevenson to pick up another start after he went 1-for-2 with a stolen base in Sunday's 8-7 win.
