  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Out with biceps tendinitis

Lambert was placed on the 15-day injured list with right biceps tendinitis Saturday. Lambert technically has time to return before the end of the season, but the timing of the injury makes it quite likely that he's done for the year. If that's the case, he'll end his age-26 season having recorded a 5.36 ERA and 1.39 WHIP across 11 starts and 14 relief appearances. Karl Kauffmann was called up to take his place on the roster.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Hit hard in loss

Lambert (3-7) gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two over five innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Giants. The Rockies gave Lambert a 3-0 lead to work with in the second inning, but it was gone by the end of the third. The Giants teed off with three homers in this contest, the most Lambert's given up in an appearance this season. He's now at a 5.36 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 71:28 K:BB through 87.1 innings over 25 appearances (11 starts). The right-hander is projected for a rematch at home with the Giants in his next outing.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Coughs up four runs

Lambert (3-6) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk over six innings Monday, striking out five and taking a loss against Arizona. Lambert gave up one run through three innings before the Diamondbacks plated three runs in the fourth. Entering Monday, he had a streak of four straight outings with three or fewer runs allowed. Lambert saw his season ERA climb back to 5.03 while being handed a second consecutive loss. He's currently expected to face the Cubs at home next week.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Takes fifth loss

Lambert (3-5) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on nine hits over five innings against Atlanta. He struck out two. Though Lambert fell to his fifth loss of the campaign, he surrendered just three runs, notching his fourth straight start with three runs or fewer allowed. However, he was tagged by Marcell Ozuna for a solo home run in the second inning to mark Lambert's fifth consecutive outing giving up a long ball. Over his last four appearances (23 innings), Lambert owns a 3.52 ERA to go along with a 17:3 K:BB. He's tentatively lined up to take on the Diamondbacks in Arizona for his next start.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Allows two homers in no-decision

Lambert did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over five innings against the Rays. He struck out six. Lambert got taken deep by Luke Raley on a hanging four-seamer to lead off the bottom of the second and was again victimized by the outfielder in the fourth, this time on a triple, before the latter came around to score a second time. Those would be the only two runs allowed by Lambert on the afternoon as he made it through at least five innings for the third consecutive start. The right-hander has allowed at least one home run in each of his last four starts and now carries a 5.19 ERA in August. On a positive note, he's issued just one walk in each of his last three outings, striking out 15 over that stretch.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Turns in quality start

Lambert (2-4) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Dodgers. Given the quality of the opponent and the fact he gave up all three runs over the first two innings, Lambert was lucky to emerge with a quality start, his second of the season. The right-hander has compiled a 5.46 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 51:23 K:BB through 59.1 innings over 20 appearances (six starts). He was shaky in his first two outings of August and remains a risky option in fantasy given his home park, where he's expected to make his next start versus the lowly White Sox.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Slips up in fourth inning

Lambert (2-3) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over 3.2 innings to take the loss Monday versus the Brewers. Lambert held his own over the first three innings, but it all fell apart in the fourth. He's given up nine runs over his last eight innings while taking a pair of losses in his last two starts. The right-hander has a 5.57 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 47:22 K:BB through 53.1 innings over 19 appearances (five starts) this season. Lambert remains in the rotation despite his poor performance since the Rockies have no better options available. He's projected to face the Dodgers on the road this weekend.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Comes back to earth

Lambert (2-2) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against the Padres. He struck out two. Lambert entered Tuesday's start not having allowed a single earned run over his last 15 innings, and he'd surrendered just one run when he was pulled from the contest. However, he left the bases loaded when he exited the game and all three runners eventually came around to score, saddling him with a fairly busy line. With four starts under his belt, Lambert owns a 1.96 ERA and a 9:5 K:BB through 18.1 innings as part of the Rockies' rotation. He's tentatively scheduled to make another start in Milwaukee early next week.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Logs quality start

Lambert did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one unearned run on three hits and one walk over six innings against Washington. He struck out two. Lambert more than held his own Wednesday, limiting the Nationals to just one unearned run on the afternoon while notching his first quality start of the season. The right-hander produced three 1-2-3 innings and needed only 78 pitches to get through six frames. He has not allowed an earned run over his last 14 innings of work (spanning three appearances) and lowered his season ERA to 4.76 with Wednesday's performance.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Getting another start

Lambert is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Nationals in Washington. The Rockies have been short on reliable starting pitching nearly all season, so it comes as little surprise that Lambert will get another turn through the rotation after he dazzled in his return from Triple-A Albuquerque over the weekend. Prior to being recalled Friday, Lambert had worked in a multi-inning relief role with Colorado earlier in the season, but he looks like he'll get a chance to make regular starts with the big club now that he's had a chance to get fully stretched out in the minors. While facing off against Miami last weekend, Lambert held the Marlins scoreless over five innings while striking out three and allowing just four baserunners. The matchup with a Washington offense that has been a bottom-third unit in terms of wRC+ (95, 22nd in the majors) is a favorable one on paper for Lambert, though Nationals Park has historically skewed hitter-friendly.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Goes five scoreless in win

Lambert (2-1) tossed five scoreless innings Friday, scattering three hits and one walk to earn the win versus the Marlins. He struck out three. Lambert was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday and seemingly secured a spot in the Rockies' injury-ravaged rotation with a dominant effort at loanDepot Park, needing just 77 pitches (51 strikes) to navigate the five scoreless frames. Up next is another favorable matchup against the Athletics, though that game will be played at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Lambert carries an overall 5.49 ERA in 39.1 major-league innings this year.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Will start Friday

Lambert will be called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to start Friday at Miami, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. Saunders adds that Connor Seabold has been demoted to the Rockies' bullpen. Lambert holds an ugly 6.29 ERA in 34.1 innings of work this season at the major-league level, but he pitched pretty well in his last two starts with Albuquerque, scattering three earned runs while tallying eight strikeouts across 8.1 frames.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Starting bullpen game

Lambert will serve as the opener for Saturday's game against the Tigers, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports. The Rockies will be utilizing their bullpen to get through the game, but Lambert will start the contest. He has pitched as many as 3.1 innings this season, though both of his most recent outings have lasted only one frame. He's unlikely to work deep enough into the game to qualify for the win.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Recalled from Triple-A

Lambert was recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Albuquerque. Lambert had posted a 3.68 ERA and 5:4 K:BB through 7.1 innings (three starts) this season at the Triple-A level. He'll presumably operate in a long relief with the Rockies as he makes his way back to the MLB level for the first time since 2021.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Sent down to Triple-A

Lambert was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque by the Rockies on Sunday. Lambert will begin the year in Triple-A after missing the majority of the last two seasons with injuries, including Tommy John surgery in 2020. The right-hander will have his innings limited to begin the campaign, but he could be a rotation option for Colorado by the time 2023 comes to a close.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Innings to be limited early

Lambert (elbow) will have his innings capped to begin the 2023 season, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Lambert told Harding that this is the first time since he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2020 that he feels ready to contribute to the pitching staff. He's expected to receive a normal workload during the Cactus League, but then will be on strict limits for the beginning of 2023. Lambert showed promise as a prospect, but there's too much volatility to consider him a potential fantasy option to begin the year.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Throws two innings

Lambert (forearm) threw two scoreless innings Sunday, allowing one hit and one walk in a rehab outing with Triple-A Albuquerque. Lambert has made two appearances with Albuquerque, combining to throw three innings. He was sidelined while recovering from Tommy John surgery for much of 2021 but did return to throw 5.2 frames. However, Lambert has been on the injured list early in 2022 with forearm inflammation, and once activated he should either fill a bullpen role in Colorado or remain a starter at Albuquerque.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Nearing rehab appearance

Lambert (forearm) will throw one inning at extended spring training May 14, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Lambert has been sidelined to start the 2022 season due to arm pain while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. After his outing in extended spring training, Lambert will make a two-inning appearance with Triple-A Albuquerque. It's unclear how many additional rehab outings Lambert may need to build up his arm strength and return from the injured list. The Rockies' rotation currently features a stable five starters, so Lambert will likely either pitch out of the big-league bullpen or be optioned to the minors once activated.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Resumes throwing

Lambert (forearm) has resumed throwing, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. Lambert has been dealing with elbow pain since the start of spring training, and he's on the 10-day injured list as a precautionary measure to begin the regular season. The right-hander was expected to be on a pitch count in 2022 after missing most of last year while recovering from Tommy John surgery, so it's unlikely that his absence will impact his availability for this season overall. However, it's not yet clear when Lambert will be able to return to game action.

  • Rockies' Peter Lambert: Signs one-year pact

Lambert agreed to a one-year, $762,500 contract with the Rockies on Tuesday to avoid arbitration, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Lambert missed most of 2021 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, though he made two starts late in the season and gave up seven earned runs over 5.2 innings. The right-hander debuted with Colorado in 2019 with a 7.25 ERA across 89.1 innings, and he has an outside shot at a spot in the Opening Day rotation this year.
