  • Diamondbacks' Logan Allen: Notches first big-league save

Allen picked up the save Tuesday against St. Louis, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts over three scoreless innings.

The Diamondbacks only needed to use two arms during Tuesday's 14-1 rout, with Allen taking over for starter Tommy Henry in the seventh and closing out the game. The save was Allen's first of his five-year MLB career (34 appearances) and the outing marked his second appearance with the D-Backs this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Logan Allen: Replaces injured starter

Allen (0-1) was tagged with Thursday's loss, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out three over 4.2 relief innings against the Giants.

Allen, who had his contract selected Wednesday to serve as a long reliever, was needed immediately. The left-hander entered to begin the third inning in place of starter Ryne Nelson, who had taken a liner off his elbow the inning before. Allen allowed all three hits and his lone run in that inning of work. He then settled in, utilizing a changeup that's been effective for him at Triple-A Reno according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, and he kept Arizona in the game before departing with two outs in the seventh and the Giants leading, 1-0. Nelson may have avoided serious injury -- X-rays came back negative -- but the club will see how he responds Friday before making any decisions. If he's unable to make his next start, scheduled for Tuesday, Allen is a sensible option as a fill-in starter.

  • Diamondbacks' Logan Allen: Added to roster

The Diamondbacks selected Allen's contract from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Arizona is in need of bullpen reinforcements following Tuesday's extra-inning victory over the Cubs. Allen has yielded four earned runs with a 9:3 K:BB over 12 innings with Reno this season and should be able to cover multiple frames out of the bullpen when needed.

  • Diamondbacks' Logan Allen: Latches on with D-backs

Allen signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday and received an invitation to major-league spring training.

Allen spent all of last season in Triple-A, where he posted a 5.77 ERA and 1.74 WHIP across 103 innings between the Rockies' and Mariners' affiliates. He'll have a chance to make the Diamondbacks' bullpen during spring training, but Allen will most likely begin 2024 with Triple-A Reno.
