  • Zack Burdi: Hits open market

Burdi elected free agency Sunday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. The 28-year-old remained with the Dodgers after being outrighted off the 40-man roster in early June, but he'll now enter the open market. Burdi never made an appearance for Los Angeles but pitched in three games for Tampa Bay earlier in the season, and he allowed five earned runs across four innings.

  • Dodgers' Zack Burdi: Designated for assignment

The Dodgers designated Burdi for assignment Thursday, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. Less than a week after being claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay, Burdi will be the Dodgers' roster casualty after the team traded for Ricky Vanasco on Thursday. The 28-year-old Burdi holds a 8.44 ERA during his major-league career and will likely have to improve upon his 4.91 ERA in Triple-A this season before he gets another shot in the bigs.

  • Dodgers' Zack Burdi: Optioned following waiver claim

Burdi was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City after being claimed off waivers from the Rays on Friday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. The Rays deemed Burdi no longer worthy of a 40-man roster spot, but the Dodgers will keep him around in that role, albeit not as part of the active roster. The oft-injured righty owns a career 8.44 ERA in 21.1 innings at the major-league level after giving up six runs (five earned) in his four innings with Tampa Bay.

  • Dodgers' Zack Burdi: Claimed off waivers

Burdi was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on Friday. Burdi was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay this past Wednesday after yielding six runs -- five earned -- over four innings of relief. He holds a career 8.44 ERA at the MLB level, but maybe the Dodgers can work some of their magic on the 28-year-old right-hander.

  • Rays' Zack Burdi: Removed from 40-man roster

Tampa Bay designated Burdi for assignment Wednesday, Steve Carney of StPeteNine.com reports. Burdi was lit up for six runs -- five earned -- in Tuesday's 20-1 loss to the Blue Jays. The transaction removes the right-hander from both the 40-man roster and the 26-man active roster to make room for reliever Ben Heller, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday. If Burdi goes unclaimed or isn't traded, he'll likely report back to Triple-A to provide bullpen depth for the Rays for the rest of 2023.

  • Rays' Zack Burdi: Removed from 40-man roster

Tampa Bay designated Burdi for assignment Wednesday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Chase Anderson, whom Tampa Bay acquired in a trade with Cincinnati earlier Wednesday. Burdi didn't allow a run in his two appearances with the Rays before being optioned back to Triple-A Durham last week. He'll stick around at Durham unless another team puts in a waiver claim for him.

  • Rays' Zack Burdi: Optioned to Triple-A

Burdi was optioned to Triple-A Durham by the Rays on Friday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports. Burdi threw a total of three innings over two appearances the last two days and didn't allow a run. Unfortunately, it also meant he probably wouldn't be available for at least a day or two and that might have cost him a roster spot. Burdi figures to be back in the majors down the road when the Rays need bullpen reinforcements again.

  • Rays' Zack Burdi: Contract selected from Triple-A

The Rays selected Burdi's contract from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports. He'll likely operate in the middle innings while he's up with the Rays. Heath Hembree was designated for assignment to make room for Burdi on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster.

  • Rays' Zack Burdi: Gets opportunity with Tampa Bay

Burdi agreed Wednesday with the Rays on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to MLB spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Once seen as a potential bullpen ace while he was a prospect in the White Sox system, Burdi has beset by numerous injuries in recent years and would do well just to resurface in the majors in a low-leverage role in 2023. The 27-year-old right-hander hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2021 and wasn't especially effective over his 13 innings with two of the Nationals' lower-level minor-league affiliates last season, posting a 1.38 ERA but issuing 10 walks.

  • Nationals' Zack Burdi: Activated, headed to High-A

Triple-A Rochester reinstated Burdi (undisclosed) from its injured list Tuesday and assigned him to High-A Wilmington. After signing a minor-league deal with the Nationals in April, Burdi was placed on the IL and didn't appear with an affiliate until Aug. 5, when he began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. He made two appearances in the FCL before settling with Wilmington last week. In his first two outings at the High-A level, Burdi struck out three over three scoreless frames. If he continues to perform well at Wilmington, a promotion to one of the Nationals' two higher-level affiliates could be in the cards before the end of the season.
