Orioles' Meibrys Viloria: Gets MiLB deal from Orioles
The Orioles signed Viloria to a minor-league contract Monday, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.
Viloria went 5-for-30 in the minors while with the Angels, and now he'll look to turn the tide with Triple-A Norfolk while giving the Orioles organizational depth behind the plate. Viloria appeared in 10 games in the majors this season with Cleveland, but the chances of him making it back are slim.

Meibrys Viloria: Released by Angels
Viloria was released by the Angels on June 2, per Taylor Blake Ward of AngelsWin.com.
Los Angeles signed Viloria to a minor-league deal May 11 but let him go less than a month later. The 26-year-old backstop played in 10 games for the organization's Triple-A affiliate, slashing .167/.265/.33 with a home run and an RBI. He's logged time in the majors in parts of five different seasons, compiling a .198/.270/.279 slash line with three long balls and 24 RBI over 103 contests between the Royals, Rangers and Guardians. Viloria will presumably try to find a new landing spot with a club in need of catching depth.

Viloria signed a minor-league deal with the Angels on Thursday.
Viloria began the season with the Guardians but was designated for assignment May 1. Max Stassi (personal/hip) and Chad Wallach (concussion) are both sidelined, so Viloria could get a look with the big-league club in the near future. For now, he's been assigned to Triple-A Salt Lake.

After being moved off the Guardians' 40-man roster and 26-man active roster last week and then clearing waivers, Viloria has chosen to seek opportunities elsewhere rather than reporting to Cleveland's Triple-A affiliate in Columbus. The 26-year-old catcher appeared in just 10 games and logged four plate appearances while he was with the big club for the first month of the season.

Viloria has been informed that he's likely to be on the Opening Day roster, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
According to Bell, Viloria has been told that "as long as something doesn't happen in the meantime" he'll be on the Opening Day roster. That means the Guardians will carry three catchers to begin the season as Mike Zunino and Cam Gallagher are also set to open the year with the Guardians. Both Gallagher and Viloria were signed to minor-league contracts, so they'll have to be added to the 40-man roster before Thursday.

Viloria signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Sunday, which includes an invitation to major-league spring training, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
Viloria hit free agency after he was designated for assignment by San Francisco in mid-November, and he'll continue his career in Cleveland. The 25-year-old appeared in 26 big-league games for the Rangers last season and has a .553 OPS across 93 MLB appearances.

Viloria went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Saturday's 9-7 loss to the Angels.
Jonah Heim served as the designated hitter Saturday, allowing Viloria a rare start behind the dish. The 25-year-old Viloria capitalized on it with his first extra-base hit of the season, a mammoth 421-foot homer to center field that left the bat at 105.2 mph. It was the catcher's second career big-league homer -- his only other one came in 2019 with the Royals. He's still slashing just .174/.345/.304 with five runs scored in nine contests, and a minimal-usage backup role is likely to keep him off the fantasy radar in most formats.

Rangers' Meibrys Viloria: Gets call to majors
The Rangers selected Viloria's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.
Viloria will join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for Sam Huff, who had been serving as the primary backup to top catcher Jonah Heim. Huff had also received some playing time at first base and designated hitter, but his opportunities to pick up starts were bound to take a hit with the Rangers bringing Mitch Garver (illness) back from the COVID-19-related injured list Tuesday. The Rangers still want Huff to play on a near-everyday basis, while Viloria's development isn't as much of a priority. With that in mind, the Rangers preferred to keep Viloria around in the majors, where he'll likely to play just once or twice a week when Heim needs maintenance.

The Rangers reassigned Viloria to minor-league camp Wednesday.
Viloria is in a new organization for the first time in his career, after he joined the Rangers this offseason on a minor-league deal following nine years in the Royals organization. He saw big-league action with Kansas City in 2018, 2019 and 2020, but he split the entirety of the 2021 campaign between Triple-A Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The 25-year-old catcher will likely report to one of the Rangers' upper-level affiliates to begin the 2022 season.
