Dalbec will make his fourth consecutive start at shortstop Saturday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
Dalbec is producing this spring but doesn't have an everyday home on the diamond. When a player goes 11-for-34 (.324) with three doubles, two triples and a home run, a manager will try to find spots. Dalbec has experience at first and third base and played some shortstop before. "Bobby's a great athlete," manager Alex Cora told Abraham. "He understands what he can do with his body and his internal clock is great. Off-balance throws, double plays... he understands the game and he's a good defender." The biggest question about Dalbec is if he can hit enough to maintain a steady role in the regular season. Over the last two seasons, Dalbec hit a combined .229 over 250 games.

Dalbec went 2-for-2 with a double, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Saturday's spring game against Atlanta.
Dalbec's had explosive springs that were followed by disappointing results in the regular season, but he talked to Ian Browne of MLB.com about new swing mechanics implemented over the winter. "I spent this offseason just getting that pole-to-pole juice back without having to try too hard," he said. "My swing has way less effort and is way more fluid. That was a big thing I was focusing on." Both of Dalbec's extra-base hits went to right field. He doesn't have a starting job, but a consistently hitting Dalbec could jump ahead of Justin Turner as a the right-handed complement to Triston Casas at first base.

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Will play third, short
Dalbec will get starts at third base and shortstop during spring training, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Dalbec is a forgotten man on the roster. He opened the last two seasons as Boston's primary first baseman, but that job now belongs to Triston Casas while Justin Turner becomes the right-handed complement against tough lefties. With Boston losing third baseman Rafael Devers and shortstop Enrique Hernandez to the World Baseball Classic, Dalbec will get the bulk of reps at either of those spots. The decision is seen as a potential trade showcase for Dalbec, although his value has never been lower. The Red Sox still believe in him and maintained the 27-year-old on the 40-man roster during an active offseason when many players were jettisoned. That Dalbec's under control through 2026 and can be carried at Triple-A Worcester means the team is not in a hurry to trade him.

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Recalled from Triple-A
Dalbec was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
He is not in the lineup against the Yankees but should be available off the bench. Dalbec should occupy the short side of a platoon at first base while also seeing time at designated hitter and as a pinch hitter. He hit .250 with five home runs and 14 strikeouts in 13 games at Triple-A this month.

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Demoted to Triple-A
Dalbec was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.
News of Dalbec's demotion was reported Saturday night, and he's now officially been sent to the minors. The 27-year-old had a solid .792 OPS with 25 home runs and 78 RBI in his first full season of big-league action last year, but he was unable to replicate those results in 2022 with a .211/.282/.362 slash line. Top prospect Triston Casas was promoted in a corresponding move and should step in as Boston's primary first baseman. Dalbec will attempt to straighten things out with Worcester in hopes of rejoining the Red Sox in the closing stages of the campaign.

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Heading down to minors
Dalbec will be optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.
McWilliams confirms that top prospect Triston Casas will join the club and adds that it will be Dalbec who loses his roster spot. Dalbec was once a top prospect himself, but he has struggled to a .211/.282/.362 line this year. He will now attempt to reset himself at Triple-A before potentially rejoining the club late in the season.

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Starts Wednesday
Dalbec started at first base and went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in Wednesday's 6-5 win over Minnesota.
Dalbec made just his sixth start since Aug. 12 and was the third player to start at first base in the three-game set with the Twins. According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, Boston manager Alex Cora plans to rotate Dalbec, Christian Arroyo and Franchy Cordero at first base while Eric Hosmer (back) is on the injured list. That's a different message than what Cora said last week, when he indicated Arroyo would play "a lot" at first base.

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Two RBI in loss
Dalbec went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run scored and one steal in Thursday's extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays.
The first baseman tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single off Kevin Gausman in the second inning. Dalbec has been in a mini-slump during his last four games coming into Thursday, going 0-for-10. The 27-year-old had also struck out seven times with two walks during that span.

The Red Sox were missing two middle infielders due to injury -- Xander Bogaerts (back) and Christian Arroyo (leg) -- so manager Alex Cora had to get creative. Enrique Hernandez moved from center field to second base, where he has 218 games of experience during his career, and Dalbec made his first-ever start at shortstop. He's played a four innings there in the majors and three while in the minors, but Cora pointed out to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com that he's also shifted to that spot while playing third base. Dalbec is unlikely a long-term solution if Bogaerts is forced to miss significant time.

Dalbec entered Saturday's game after Eric Hosmer was removed due to back pain. He went 0-for-2 in a 4-3 win over Baltimore.
Dalbec's already marginal playing time has taken a hit since Hosmer's arrival in Boston. The latter has had 45 plate appearances compared to Dalbec's 19. It's uncertain how long Hosmer will be impacted by the injury, but Dalbec will benefit from an uptick in playing time in the short term.

Dalbec has hit safely in three of his four games in August, but the presence of Eric Hosmer on the roster likely means he'll see less playing time down the stretch. This was Dalbec's first homer since he swatted two versus the Guardians on July 27. The corner infielder is up to 11 long balls this season while adding 32 RBI, 32 runs scored, two stolen bases and a mediocre .205/.280/.369 slash line through 300 plate appearances.

Dalbec is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Royals, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Even with southpaw Kris Bubic taking the hill for Kansas City, the Red Sox won't find room in the lineup for the righty-hitting Dalbec, who started each of the past 12 games at either third base or first base. Dalbec's path to playing time at the hot corner closed Tuesday when Rafael Devers was reinstated from the injured list, and Dalbec won't have a regular spot in the lineup at first base either with Eric Hosmer (neck) having been cleared to make his team debut Thursday after being acquired from the Padres earlier in the week. The lefty-hitting Hosmer also has a stronger track record against left-handed pitching at the big-league level than Franchy Cordero did prior to being demoted to Triple-A Worcester, so Dalbec may not even be in line for a short-side platoon role moving forward.
