Rangers' DJ Peters: Lands minor-league deal with Texas

Peters agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
The 28-year-old was a well-regarded outfield prospect while he made his ascent through the Dodgers organization after entering the professional ranks in 2016, but he managed a lowly .197/.242/.422 slash line over 240 plate appearances during his lone season in the majors in 2021, which he split between the Dodgers and Rangers. He eventually moved on to the Korea Baseball Organization in 2022, only to return to affiliated ball in 2023 while making the conversion to pitching. He had a rough go in rookie ball last season with the Tigers' Florida Complex League affiliate, turning in a 6.23 ERA and 24:27 K:BB over 21.2 innings. Though Peters' initial results as a pitcher at the lowest rung of the minors weren't encouraging, the Rangers will bring him back for a second stint in the organization and see if they can unlock some of his potential on the mound.

Peters agreed to a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Peters played 85 games with the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization in 2022, struggling to a .228/.299/.402 slash line before being released in July. He finished the season in the Nationals' system, posting a .455 OPS in 51 plate appearances over 13 games with Triple-A Rochester. Once an intriguing prospect, the 27-year-old will provide Detroit with some outfield depth in the minors and is likely to open 2023 with Triple-A Toledo.

Peters signed with the Lotte Giants of the KBO in December but didn't have much success, getting released back in July. While he was able to trim his strikeout rate to a respectable 21.8 percent, well below the 34.2 percent he managed in his 70-game MLB debut last season, he hit an unremarkable .228/.299/.402 in 85 games.
