Pirates' Henry Davis: Reassigned to minors camp
Davis was reassigned Tuesday to the minor-league side of Pirates camp.
Lolo Sanchez and Matt Gorski were also sent out. Following some earlier cuts Tuesday morning, the Pirates are now down to 59 players in major-league camp. Davis has battled multiple injuries as a pro but boasts an .890 OPS in 67 career minor-league games and could arrive in the bigs at some point later this season.

Pirates' Henry Davis: Gets invite to MLB camp
Davis received an invitation to the major-league side of Pirates camp this spring.
Davis struggled through multiple injuries in 2022, most prominently a fractured left wrist, but he had a terrific run in the Arizona Fall League and is ready to again continue his ascent through the Pirates' farm system. Selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of the University of Louisville, the 23-year-old catcher has posted an .890 OPS in 67 career minor-league games. He could make his MLB debut in late 2023.

Pirates' Henry Davis: Returning to action for Altoona
Double-A Altoona intends to reinstate Davis (wrist) from its 7-day injured list during the upcoming week, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
Davis started a rehab assignment at Single-A Bradenton last Tuesday and has played in five games for the affiliate, going 4-for-11 with a home run and a stolen base. He could end up playing in another game or two for Bradenton, but in the absence of any setbacks with his nagging left wrist injury, Davis should settle back in as Altoona's primary backstop before long.

Pirates' Henry Davis: Ready for rehab game
Davis (wrist) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Bradenton, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft will make his return to game action for the first time since July 2, after he was shut down for an extended period due to recurring soreness in the left wrist he fractured earlier in the campaign. Davis currently resides on Double-A Altoona's 7-day injured list, and he may not be formally reinstated until he's able to play a full game at catcher for one of the Pirates' lower-level affiliates.

Pirates' Henry Davis: Ramping up activity
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Davis (wrist) has been cleared for full baseball activities, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
Tomczyk said that the next step in Davis' recovery program from a left wrist issue will be to make his return to game action, and the 22-year-old catcher will presumably first do that at a lower-level affiliate as part of a rehab assignment. Davis made just 17 appearances for Double-A Altoona before he was shut down in early July and placed on the IL with the same wrist injury that had kept him out of action at High-A Greensboro for nearly a month earlier in the season.

Pirates' Henry Davis: Not quite ready for return
Davis (wrist) has had no issues while hitting or catching during his recovery process, although he remains without a firm timetable for return, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Davis' left wrist has been an issue for him all season, causing him to miss a significant amount of time at Double-A Altoona. When he has been healthy, he's slashed .177/.320/.355 over 75 plate appearances.

Pirates' Henry Davis: Gripping bat again
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Thursday that Davis (wrist) has resumed "gripping activities," Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Tomczyk didn't offer a timeline for when Davis might be able to take batting practice, much less play in games, so he looks set to remain on Double-A Altoona's injured list for at least another week or two. Due to recurring wrist issues, Davis has played in just 17 games for Altoona since receiving a promotion from High-A Greensboro in early May.

A non-displaced fracture of the same wrist previously forced the 2021 No. 1 overall pick to miss just under a month of action earlier in the season, so it's somewhat troubling that the wrist is bothering him again. Since rejoining Altoona on June 11 following a brief rehab assignment, Davis has slashed an unremarkable .175/.299/.316 with six extra-base hits in 15 games. He'll likely be monitored for a few more days as Altoona weighs whether to place the 22-year-old catcher on the 7-day injured list once again.

Davis will likely need only a few tune-up games in the FCL before the Pirates send him back to Double-A Altoona, where he played just two games following his call-up from High-A Greensboro before suffering a non-displaced fracture of his left wrist. Once Adley Rutschman logs enough at-bats with the Orioles to exhaust his prospect eligibility, Davis will become the clear No. 1 catching prospect in baseball.

Davis has recovered quickly after sustaining a non-displaced fracture in his left wrist May 22, and he's expected to have his rehab transferred to the Pirates' extended spring training facility soon. The 22-year-old seems to be trending toward a return to game action sometime in early-to-mid June.
