  • Athletics' Ryan Cusick: Rejoins Midland

Cusick (oblique) is scheduled to start Wednesday for Double-A Midland after being activated from the 7-day injured list a day earlier. Cusick is making his first appearance for Midland since May 25 after an extended absence due to an oblique strain. The right-hander made a two-inning rehab start Aug. 9 in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League prior to being reinstated from the IL.

  • Athletics' Ryan Cusick: Begins rehabbing in rookie ball

Cusick (oblique) began a rehab assignment with the Athletics' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Tuesday, covering two innings and striking out three while allowing two earned runs on three hits and zero walks. Cusick's appearance in the ACL was his first at any level since May 25. The 22-year-old right-hander should eventually settle back into the rotation at Double-A Midland, with whom he posted an 8.13 ERA and 2.28 WHIP in 27.2 innings this season before going down with the oblique injury.

  • Athletics' Ryan Cusick: Recovering from oblique strain

Cusick hasn't made an appearance for Double-A Midland since June 2 due to an oblique strain, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports. Cusick was one of four prospects Oakland received in the March blockbuster deal that sent Matt Olson to Atlanta. Through his first eight starts (seven appearances) with Midland this season, Cusick has produced an 8.13 ERA and 2.28 WHIP across 27.2 innings.

  • Athletics' Ryan Cusick: Moved in Olson deal

Cusick was traded from Atlanta to Oakland along with Shea Langeliers, Cristian Pache and Joey Estes in exchange for Matt Olson on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. A big 6-foot-6 righty whom Atlanta selected with the No. 24 overall pick in last year's draft, Cusick comes with some bullpen risk, but it's hard to overlook the fact that he struck out over 50 percent of the batters he faced in 16.1 innings at Low-A. He may take longer to reach the majors now that he is on a rebuilding club that can be patient with his development.
