Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Takes extra-inning loss
Curry (3-4) allowed an unearned run and walked two batters over one-third of an inning, taking the extra-inning loss versus the Giants on Wednesday.
Curry's two walks loaded the bases, and LaMonte Wade's sacrifice fly was enough for the Giants to walk it off in the 10th inning. This was Curry's second consecutive relief appearance. The right-hander has pitched to a 4.10 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 61:26 K:BB through 85.2 innings over 36 appearances (nine starts) this season. There's currently no room for him in Cleveland's rotation, and with Shane Bieber (elbow) still a possibility to return before the end of the year, Curry will likely remain in the bullpen.... Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Heads back to bullpen
Curry made a relief appearance in Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Angels, giving up two earned runs on three hits and one walk over one inning while failing to strike out a batter.
Curry had started in nine of his previous 11 appearances, but it looks like he'll shift back into a bullpen role moving forward after Cleveland recently bolstered its rotation with the waiver-wire pickup of Lucas Giolito, who drew the start Saturday. The Guardians are expected to get Triston McKenzie (elbow) and Shane Bieber (elbow) back from the 60-day injured list later this month, so Curry may not have a path back to the rotation even if Cleveland loses another starting pitcher to an injury at some point in September.... Curry allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in Sunday's loss to the Rays. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision.
Aside from Rene Pinto's two-run homer in the third inning, Curry turned in a sharp performance. It was a nice rebound for Curry after he was tagged with six runs in just two innings during his last start. He owns a 3.95 ERA this season but has registered a 4.85 ERA over 52 innings since his last win June 9. Curry's next start is currently lined up to be on the road against the Angels.... See More ... Over his last four appearances, Curry has been tagged with 15 runs in 15 innings, driving his season ERA to 4.10 through 79 frames. Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Logs short outing due to rain
Curry pitched two innings against the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out one batter in a game that was suspended due to rain.
Curry endured a rough first inning during which he gave up three runs on four hits. The right-hander bounced back with a one-hit, scoreless second frame but wasn't able to go any further since the game was suspended due to rain before a pitch was thrown in the third. Curry won't be available when the game is resumed Thursday.... See More ... See Less
Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Tosses quality start Friday
Curry came away with a no-decision in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Tigers, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.
The right-hander delivered his first quality start of the season while establishing a new season high in strikeouts, but Curry was headed for his second loss until Cleveland took the lead in the eighth inning. Since getting stretched out, the 25-year-old has a 4.50 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB through 16 innings over his last three starts, working at least five frames each time. With Cal Quantrill (shoulder) expected to return next week, however, Curry's run in the rotation is likely coming to a close.... See More ... See Less
Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Tigers-Guardians postponed by rain
Curry will not start Thursday against the Tigers after the game was postponed due to rain.
There are storms passing through Cleveland, so Thursday's game has been moved into a traditional doubleheader Friday at Progressive Field. Curry is lined up to start the second half of the twin bill, with Gavin Williams handling the early tilt.... See More ... See Less
Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Struggles in Tampa Bay
Curry was charged with five runs on six hits and two walks over five-plus innings Friday, taking a no-decision in a 9-8 loss to the Rays. He struck out one.
Curry retired the side in order each of the first two innings but then labored in the third as the Rays sent eight men to the plate and scored three runs. He bounced back with a scoreless fourth and fifth, but a double ahead of an Isaac Paredes two-run homer in the sixth ended his night. In addition to just one strikeout, Curry managed only two whiffs among 70 pitches. He could get another start as the Guardians continue to patch together their rotation around numerous injuries, but fantasy managers can probably do better.... See More ... See Less
Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Pitches well in no-decision
Curry didn't factor into the decision in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the White Sox after allowing two runs on four hits over five innings. He struck out four.
Curry turned in an efficient effort, worked through five innings on just 65 pitches (45 strikes). He allowed a pair of runs in the opening inning before dealing four scoreless frames and exiting with a 3-2 lead before the White Sox rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth. A reliever for most of the season, Curry has now made four starts and appears likely to stick in the rotation while Cal Quantrill (shoulder), Triston McKenzie (elbow) and Shane Bieber (elbow) are all sidelined for the foreseeable future. Overall, Curry is 3-1 with an impressive 2.95 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 45:17 K:BB across 64 innings this season. His next start is expected to come in a tough road matchup with the Rays next weekend.... Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Staying in rotation
Curry will start Sunday's game against the White Sox and remain in the Guardians' rotation going forward, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
He will start getting stretched out to remain in the rotation indefinitely, but Curry may not be ready Sunday to go deep enough to qualify for the win. He has not logged more than three innings in any of his last 10 appearances and has a 2.86 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 22 innings over that stretch.... See More ... See Less
Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Works in relief Tuesday
Curry came on in relief of starter Gavin Williams in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Astros, covering 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out three and giving up two hits and no walks.
Curry made three of his previous four appearances as a starter, though he never surpassed three innings in any of those outings. His usage in relief Tuesday likely suggests he won't be a candidate to start Saturday versus the White Sox, when the Guardians will need to add a new fifth member of the rotation to the mix. After building up to 7.1 innings in his latest rehab start last Sunday, Peyton Battenfield (shoulder) could be activated from the 60-day injured list to fill the open rotation spot. The door might not be closed on Curry starting this weekend, however, as Cleveland could require another replacement in the rotation for Sunday's series finale if Noah Syndergaard (lower leg) isn't ready to pitch.... Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Takes first loss
Curry (3-1) took the loss Friday, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over three innings against the White Sox. He did not record a strikeout.
Luis Robert touched him up for a homer in the first inning. As has been the case for Curry in every outing since April, he was capped at three innings, but he did throw a season-high 54 pitches in this start. He's pitched well with a 2.98 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 57.1 innings, but in this role Curry's fantasy utility is limited to AL-only formats.... See More ... See Less
Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Draws start for Friday
Curry will start Friday against the White Sox, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
As long as Cleveland is able to avoid using Curry during Thursday's contest, the 25-year-old righty is now set to make his third start of the season. Curry holds a 2.98 ERA and 1.16 WHIP through 54.1 innings across 26 appearances, though he hasn't pitched more than three innings since April.... See More ... See Less
Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Solid in another three-inning start
Curry did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on one hit and three walks over three innings against Philadelphia. He struck out three.
After tossing three scoreless innings in his first start of 2023 last week, Curry limited the Phillies to just one hit over three frames Sunday. Though the 24-year-old was a starter throughout his time in the minors and was only utilized as a starter last season with Cleveland, he's been pulled after 39 and 42 pitches in his last two outings. It's unclear if Curry will make another start, but his recent workload limitations significantly cap any fantasy potential.... See More ... See Less
Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Picks up another start
Curry is slated to start Sunday's game against the Phillies at Progressive Field, Andre Knott of Bally Sports Ohio reports.
After making his first 23 appearances of the season out of the bullpen, Curry stepped into the rotation Monday and kept the Pirates off the scoreboard while being limited to three innings and 39 pitches. Curry should be able to push into the 50-pitch and 4-to-5-inning range Sunday, and if he fares well again, the Guardians could opt to keep him in the rotation on a more permanent basis. If Curry struggles, however, the Guardians could reinstate Peyton Battenfield (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list the next time a fifth starter is required.... See More ... See Less

Curry took care of the "bulk opener" role Monday and cruised through three innings with ease. He's fired 7.2 scoreless frames with a 7:2 K:BB this month. The 24-year-old has registered a 2.86 ERA across 50.1 innings this season.... See More ... See Less
Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Looks set to start Monday
The Guardians list Curry as their probable starting pitcher for Monday's game against the Pirates.
Curry was a starter throughout his minor-league career and received two starts during his first taste of the big leagues in 2022, but the Guardians have deployed him exclusively as a reliever thus far in 2023. Since he tossed a 20-pitch inning in relief Saturday in Texas and hasn't logged more than three frames in any appearance since beginning of May, Curry isn't expected to work deep enough into Monday's outing to qualify for the win. Instead, look for the Guardians to treat the series opener in Pittsburgh as more of a bullpen day.... See More ... See Less
Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Earns win in 14-inning contest
Curry (3-0) allowed an unearned run on one hit over one inning to earn the win in Friday's 14-inning 10-9 win over the Astros.
The Guardians weren't quite out of bullpen options by the 14th inning, but putting Curry in was likely to eat innings if the marathon game continued. He gave up an RBI single to Kyle Tucker, but Cleveland rallied for two runs to end the contest. Curry has earned all three of his wins this season over his last four appearances despite allowing three runs (two earned) over seven innings in that span. He's at a 2.51 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB over 32.1 innings overall as a long-relief option.... See More ... See Less

Curry is now at a 2.45 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB through 29.1 innings in a low-leverage role.... See More ... See Less

Curry (1-0) allowed two hits over three scoreless innings to earn the win Sunday over the Cardinals.
Curry has made six relief appearances in May, four of which have exceeded one inning. He kept the game close Sunday before Jose Ramirez walked it off with a two-run double. A starter in the minors, Curry has excelled in a long-relief role this season with a 2.22 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB over 28.1 innings. With an upcoming logjam in the Guardians' rotation with injury returns, it's possible Curry could be sent back to Triple-A Columbus despite his recent success in the majors.... See More ... See Less
