  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Outrighted to Las Vegas

Oakland outrighted Martinez to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. Martinez lost his spot on the Athletics' 40-man roster after surrendering four earned runs over 1.1 innings across two appearances during spring training, and he will officially remain in Oakland's farm system after clearing waivers. The 27-year-old right-hander owns a 5.51 ERA and 1.47 WHIP across 112.2 career innings in the majors, and he has a poor history in Triple-A as well.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: DFA'd by Oakland

The Athletics designated Martinez for assignment on Sunday. Martinez was reassigned from minor-league camp in early March and has now lost his place on Oakland's 40-man roster. The right-hander pitched in 22 games for the A's last season and posted a 4.75 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB across 55 innings.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Cut from Oakland's camp

Martinez was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas by the Athletics on Saturday. Martinez received a quick cut from camp after yielding four runs over 1.1 innings in his two Cactus League outings. The 27-year-old could be used as a starter or reliever at Las Vegas.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Impressive in long relief

Martinez didn't factor into the decision in the Athletics' loss to the Mariners on Monday, allowing an earned run on five hits and a walk over four innings. He also recorded a strikeout and uncorked two wild pitches. Control issues aside, Martinez provided some valuable length for manager Mark Kotsay after starter Kyle Muller was chased following four innings. Martinez has allowed at least one earned run in each of the five appearances he's logged since being promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 8, but the combination of his versatility and the slew of pitching injuries the Athletics are still dealing with is likely to continue affording the right-hander consistent opportunities.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Takes second loss Wednesday

Martinez (0-2) took the loss against the Royals on Wednesday, allowing an earned run on three hits, a hit batsman and a walk over 2.1 innings. He struck out three. Martinez's one big mistake was deposited by Dairon Blanco into the left-field seats in the third inning for the first run of the game. The right-hander has allowed at least one run in all four appearances he's logged since returning to the majors Aug. 8 while pitching to a 5.73 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9 and 1.6 HR/9 across 11 innings. With both Luis Medina (finger) and Freddy Tarnok (calf) on the injured list for the time being, Martinez could be called on for another spot start early next week.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Gets starting nod Wednesday

Martinez is listed as the Athletics' starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Martinez has made 12 starts at Triple-A Las Vegas this season, but he's been working exclusively as a reliever across multiple stints with Oakland, compiling a 5.85 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 32.1 innings over 14 appearances. Since he's reached four innings just once this season for the Athletics and will be pitching on three days' rest after making a one-inning appearance Saturday against the Orioles, Martinez is unlikely to reach the five innings he would need Wednesday to qualify for a win. Instead, look for the Athletics to treat Martinez as a multi-inning opener in front of Kyle Muller, who is available to pitch on four days' rest.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Long-relief assignment in return

Martinez, recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, allowed two earned runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings during a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday. He recorded five strikeouts and did not factor into the decision. The young right-hander was afforded an 82-pitch assignment right out of the gate in his first taste of major-league action since May 26. Martinez ate up some valuable innings in the process, getting all but the last out of the night for the Athletics after starter JP Sears exited following four laborious frames. Martinez is slotting into a bullpen role for the time being, but as the length of Tuesday's appearance indicates, he's capable of serving in a bulk-relief capacity or even moving into the rotation if necessary.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Recalled from Triple-A

Oakland recalled Martinez from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. Martinez has struggled to a 5.70 ERA across 23.2 innings this season at the major-league level, but the Athletics need fresh bullpen arms as they play out the string in 2023. Dany Jimenez was optioned out in a corresponding roster move.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Optioned to Triple-A

Martinez was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Martinez will head to Las Vegas after posting a 2.84 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with six strikeouts over 6.1 innings in five appearances during his second stint with Oakland this season. The 26-year-old will likely get another shot with the Athletics this summer, but for now, Hogan Harris was recalled from Triple-A and will serve as the bulk relief pitcher following opener Austin Pruitt versus the Astros on Saturday. Meanwhile, the team's official site reports Martinez will work as a starter -- his projected long-term role in the majors -- with the Aviators after primarily operating in multi-inning relief out of necessity during his just-concluded big-league stint.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Hit hard in second rehab appearance

Martinez (elbow) was charged with the loss in Triple-A Las Vegas' defeat at the hands of Albuquerque on Friday, allowing three earned runs on four hits across 1.2 innings. He struck out two and hit a batter. Martinez pitched to plenty of contact for the second time in as many rehab appearances, although Friday's performance was by far the poorer of the two. Given the right-hander's struggles thus far in the minors, it's possible he's afforded a few more rehab appearances to straighten matters out before activation is considered.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: More rehab work Friday

Martinez (elbow) will throw an extended bullpen session Friday, the Associated Press reports. The right-hander was knocked around for nine earned runs across 6.1 innings over his last two relief appearances before going on the injured list April 24 with right forearm inflammation and a strained right elbow. Martinez was able to throw a bullpen session Tuesday without any residual effects, setting up what is likely to be a longer session Friday. It's possible Martinez will embark on a rehab assignment sometime next week.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Avoids serious injury

Martinez's (elbow) MRI results revealed inflammation in his right forearm Wednesday but no structural damage, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. A's manager Mark Kotsay said Martinez will still be shut down from throwing for five days, but an extended stay on the injured list appears unlikely. The 25-year-old righty holds a 6.75 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 17.1 frames across six appearances this season.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Heads to 15-day injured list

Oakland placed Martinez on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right elbow strain. Martinez holds a 6.75 ERA and 14:5 K:BB over 17.1 innings this season while working exclusively out of the bullpen. It's not clear how long he might be sidelined.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Stellar in long relief

Martinez fired 3.2 scoreless relief innings in a loss to the Orioles on Thursday, allowing a walk and recording five strikeouts. Starter Adam Oller was chased after allowing seven earned runs on eight hits over 2.1 innings, so Martinez spared his fellow bullpen mates some work with his effective pitching. It was an encouraging bounce-back effort from the 26-year-old, who'd fired three scoreless, one-hit frames against the Angels in his first appearance of the season April 2 but then had allowed two earned runs apiece in his next pair of outings.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Rough end to season

Martinez allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against the Angels Tuesday. He fanned five and did not factor into the decision. Marinez's season came to a close with a rocky start Monday, as he surrendered four runs for the fourth time in his final five starts. A silver lining is that none of the runs Monday came via the home run after he allowed seven over his previous four starts. The rookie finishes the season 4-6 with a 6.24 ERA over 57.2 innings.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Hit hard in no-decision

Martinez allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven across five innings during a 9-5 loss Thursday against Seattle. He did not factor into the decision. Six of the first seven batters Martinez faced Thursday reached safely, leading to three runs. He then retired 13 of the next 14 batters with the lone hit being a solo homer by Jarred Kelenic in the fourth. The 25-year-old righty has been shelled in each of his last three starts, allowing 16 runs and six homers over 13.2 innings and watching his season ERA rise from 4.37 to 6.10.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Gives up four homers

Martinez (4-5) gave up four earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings to take the loss in a 5-0 defeat against the Astros on Friday. Martinez was crushed by four solo home runs on 97 pitches to take his fifth loss in nine starts this season. Three of the homers came off the bat of Yordan Alvarez, who perfectly read the ball coming out of Martinez's hand in each of his three times through the order. Martinez's ERA rises to a bloated 5.77 with the performance and he now has a -0.4 WAR on the season according to Baseball-Reference. The rookie right-hander is tentatively expected to make his next start against the Mariners.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Keeps rotation spot

Martinez is scheduled to start Sunday's game in Baltimore. Martinez looked as though he might have been at risk of moving to the bullpen after the Athletics summoned Ken Waldichuk from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Thursday, but at least for this week, Oakland will expand their rotation to six men to open up spots for both rookies. Though Martinez owns an unremarkable 5.28 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over six outings with Oakland this season, he turned in the best start of his young career his last time out Aug. 28, when he limited the Yankees to one run while allowing five baserunners and striking out career-high six batters over 5.1 innings.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Sharp in return to majors

Martinez (3-3) allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.1 innings to earn the win over the Yankees on Sunday. Martinez spent three weeks at Triple-A Las Vegas, but he was brought up Sunday to replace Zach Logue in Oakland's rotation. Against a tough opponent. Martinez turned in an impressive start and picked up his first win since July 5. The right-hander has logged a 5.28 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB through 29 innings across six starts this year. The 25-year-old likely earned himself another start with this outing, which is tentatively expected to be a road matchup in Baltimore.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Sent down by Oakland

Martinez was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday. Martinez started Sunday against the Giants and gave up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five in 4.1 innings to take the loss. While the Athletics haven't yet indicated who will take his place in the rotation, Domingo Tapia was called up Monday.
